@Sarah Prince without oettinger the series ends in 4. they definitely improved in games 5-7 with 6 being their best, but it also was calgary's worst game. they were exhausted in the 3rd period and you could see it. with that said, the stars allowed 50+ shots in games 4 and 7, but struggled to get at least 30 for most of the series. not even yesterday with regulation + OT did they get there. gm6 was the only time the stars outshot the flames, but only by 2 (40-38). by comparison, the flames had double the shots total of the stars through this series. when it comes to calgary's powerplay, otter, again, was the difference. they had many chances and good looks, but couldn't capitalize. unlike what analysts, suggest, it didn't "struggle"; it hit a *figuratively-literal* wall.

@rob thomas your extremely biased 😆 Edmonton is 4th in the playoffs for scoring, Calgary is 15th (second to last). When it comes to offense, Edmonton wins in that column. It's definitely going to be a tough series and anything can happen. They played a total of 4 games against each other and have each won two. I'd have to say Markstrom is probably the better goalie, but Smith has been killing it in net (except game 1 of course 😉). I'm guessing a A full 7 games this round

Goaltending will be much easier obstacle going forward. Smith in edmonton will crumble against Calgary's onslaught. They have a very onesided offence.

Oettinger was A LION out there.. What a goalie.. what a game.. what a series !!! There are many among us who wished for the Battle of Alberta. . But almost everyone will agree that its sad that it had to come at the expense of Jake Oettinger

So glad the Flames took this one! But oh man, did Oettinger make them work for it! First star of the game for sure! If this guy keeps it up, he's going to be a force in the league for years to come! Kudos to the Flames for keeping the pressure on, and not to disregard Markstrom's performance! It was stellar as well. Good luck against the Oilers!

It's good to finally see the better team win the series. I felt the Pens and Leafs played better than their opponents, but still lost. Hockey is random and in the playoffs anything can happen! Great to see the Flames advance. Now for the Battle of Alberta!

Wow, the Flames win game 7 and advance to the second round!! This game was so close, and it was nail biting to watch it! I was really afraid the Dallas Stars might end up winning, because Oettinger, their outstanding goaltender, was saving so many shots. And then Gaudreau scores on a difficult, sharp angle shot in overtime to clinch the series!!! Congratulations to the Calgary Flames!!

I remember taking my dog on a walk on Gm5. Flames were down 0-1, and when I came back, up 2-1. I did it twice tonight. The score was 0-1, and I returned to see 2-2. I left midway through the 3rd period, and I returned to see 3-2 OT.

I pulled out an autographed 89-90 Fleury card and Flames puck out of storage and put it on my desk right before OT.. Looks like that's staying on my desk for a while!!

Fantastic series, great goal tending made it interesting down to the wire, but in the end the best team won. Its the playoffs and credit to the stars, they are a hard out even if that took a outstanding performance from Oettinger. War is coming to Alberta Canada!!

This Flames team is just SO freakin' good, and yet they were almost beaten by an All-World goaltending performance from a previously average goalie. Wow. Reminds me of how Jaroslav Halák managed to get the Montréal Canadiens through two series against two of the very best teams of the modern NHL back in 2010. To take a couple examples: in game 6 of the Habs-Capitals series, he saved 53 of 54, while Varlamov was no Markström, saving 18 of 21; and in game 7, Halák saved 41 of 42, while Varlamov only saved 14 of 16, sealing the Caps' fate. Halák came out of nowhere - he had never really shown that he would be anything other than an average NHL goaltender, and at 25 years of age, on a team with a heir apparent in Carey Price, those playoffs really were a make-it-or-break-it moment. And he made it count for all it was worth, guaranteeing that he would have a long NHL career to prove that his exceptional performance in 2010 wasn't a fluke. On that note, Halák managed to be a great starting goalie for 5 of the following 8 seasons* (he was average or injured for the remaining 3), in which he matched (and once exceeded) his exceptional performance that year in Montréal. But success was short-lived, and he never made it back to the Conference Finals, and faded away as a decent back-up goalie. I don't think Oettinger's heroics were a fluke either. But he has certainly come out of nowhere to impress NHL fans league-wide, and I think he's just getting started (hopefully on an even more impressive journey than Halák took). *Including a memorable 12 games with the Washington Capitals (record: 5-4-3, 2.31 GAA, 0.930 SV% and 1 shutout), the very team he had decimated 4 years earlier (he was a trade deadline acquisition from the Blues, but the Caps finished 3 points out of a playoff spot that year despite his excellent play).

WOO! I was saying right from the start, this was the matchup I was dreading most. Not because I was afraid the Stars would win, but because I knew regardless of who won, I would be disappointed that the other team would have to make a first round exit. To me, this should have been a third round series. I knew it was going to go the distance before the playoffs even started. I know the Sutter system, and I have come to know the Bowness system. I knew they both stress a similar style of play, and that we would be in for a low-scoring, tight checking, defensive battle through 7 games, and that is just what we got. I have much respect for both coaches, and I think the Stars have much to build on. I tip my hat to the Stars, and especially much respect to Jake Oettinger (wow was he amazing!). GG! GO FLAMES GO!

Oettinger played one heck of a game, considering the only goalie with more saves in a playoff game was Joonas Korpisalo and he had five overtimes. The hard truth in these situations is that these goalies usually lose because the rest of their team leaves them out to die. I remember game 2 between the Kings and Knights in 2018 when Vegas won in 2OT. When they scored the goal on quick after all the incredible saves he made, he just lay face down on the ice for about a minute because he gave it everything he had and it still wasn't enough. Even though Oettinger was the sole reason this game was even close, he'll sadly still feel guilt for the loss because he gave up the goal to lose the game. Overall though, Dallas as a whole didn't deserve to win that series anyway so congrats to Calgary.

I'd have to agree. I've been a fan since 1970 NHL expansion birthed the Canucks. This is the first time I've felt compelled to watch EVERY game of all first round televised series. The only disappointment has been the potential for an 'all Canadian' final disappeared when the Leafs went golfing. Sigh.

I respect Oettinger's "Gretzky of goaltending" play through the series but I have grown the largest hatred of him for almost SINGLE HANDEDLY downing a Flames team that played champion level for at 5 of those games this series. Dallas owes him everything they have

Despite being badly outshot, Dallas produced excellent scoring chances with almost every shot they had, which was probably a higher average than Calgary's. Dallas did an amazing job against a team that should've defeated them in less than 6 games.

Never really felt it was fair to say Johnny Hockey never comes up big in the postseason because a lot of his misses are usually on great saves man; it’s always hats off to fantastic tenders he’s up against. But great for my guy!!!

As a wings fan I have to say this has been amazing nhl playoffs in recent years, better then the last 5 years at least and I agree ottinger was just an absolute beast he should have had that win…not his fault

My wife don't usually watched hockey, but she knows Jake Oetinger stoning the Flames night in night out for the past 2 weeks. She usually reading a book when I watch the game. But I noticed she's been looking at the screen alot telling me that goalie on the other side is pretty good!

Same goes for Markstrom. Oilers have a much higher caliber offense than Dallas does. Something tells me this series might cause me heart problems
