I had this friend (we'll call her Nina) and like Wolfy I loved to draw and make art. Also like Wolfy, Nina really liked my art style and would ask me for tips. One day, the while class made this abstract art of fishes. I made a pufferfish and Nina made a... sardine? Idk. Anyway, everyone finished and was at lunch. I was eating when Nina came up to me and asked to talk somewhere else. She then proceeded to ask me if she and I could swap our parts because, "hers sucked and she really wanted to be in the art book" (some art from our school got chosen and made into a little booklet that our families could read) I said, "Sorry, no. I really want to be in that book, too! I thought your art was really good!" She dropped it and everything was fine. The next day, however, I came into class early to find Nina at the stack of pictures, getting mine, and erasing my name and replacing it with hers. She did the same to her paper and put them back. Now, I was a SUPER shy person (still am) but there are some stuff that I'll make an exception for. I asked her what she was doing, and she didn't even try to hide it and tried to convince me in her last moments. The teacher came in at this point and the whole thing went down from there. Me and Nina aren't friends anymore (not just bc of that mind you) but we only talk if we bump into each other or work together. Sorry for making you read. Here's a cookie🍪

my friend also liked to steal my art, but she gave me credit and said my art was beautiful. Everyday I teach her how to draw and even give tips and how to improve better, she repaid it by helping my learning and exam results, she is a very tall but negative person so it's very hard to change her old art, but she was very nice. In the end, we both walked together everyday after school, although I hate reading books, she would choose those stories with pictures in them since I hate only word books. She now learn to draw anime, which is what I draw, but we both get better so my art is clearly turning into digital, but we both have something in common, WE SUCK AT DRAWING HANDS

Me and my friend used to draw together at playtime and when it rained in school, we stayed in so she drew anime and I tried to draw like her but it turned out horrible (we still draw together). A group of younger children surrounded us and looked at her drawing, but barely noticed mine (which I was annoyed about). Now I draw chibi (and occasionally anime). She draws anime.

Now this is what *REAL* artists understand.

Something similar happened to me. When I was in 3rd Grade, I enjoyed drawing and art, so I always drew in class and stuff. My friend (lets call her Surie) stole my art out of the binder, wrote her name on it (I didn't sign my art), and handed it to the teacher as a birthday present. At the end of the year, everyone got a certificate saying the highlight they made to the school year, and I got "not disturbing to others" (I was pretty quiet) and since Surie took all my drawings for the rest of the year, she was called "best artist" and "her" drawings are probably still hanging on the walls of the school today.

In remember in my middle school, some "friend" of mine threatened to kill another girl because they were better at art than her. Yeah... No one there was mentally stable, and it kinda makes sense to me now. We were all like walking zombies, deprived of food and deprived of sleep. That place was awful.

Ngl this story reminded me of one of my old friends, anddd this gonna turn into a story time 😔🤚 So it was when I switched schools, there was this person who wanted to be my friend, since she walked me to class. I’ll just called her Isabella cause I don’t wanna say her real name - I accepted the friend request because I’m quite shy asking people about being friends- When we walked in class there were tables; 4 tables that represented each team. 4-5 chairs each table, we both got on the same team. The months started to pass and I realized she liked doodling as much as I do. But the problem was..she never really paid attention to class. Unlike me, I doodled and paid attention to class. But she only doodled and didn’t pay much attention to class. It was a sunny day, I remember my class was reading a nonfiction passage. I was doodling on the paper, making a little story based on the passage. But I stopped so I could see what my teacher was talking about. The teacher called on me then on her. But, she started to stutter and looked at her paper trying to figure out what she got called on for. Then..That’s when my teacher, *lost it.* I won’t explain it but I’ll just make a dialogue of what happened next. My teacher: Could you continue what *[insert my actual name]* was reading? Isabella: Uhm, uhhh.. Could you tell me what page we’re on again...? My teacher: Why don’t you know what page we are on Isabella?! The other kids said it a bunch of times! Didn’t you listen!? Isabella: I - uhm - ... My teacher : *proceeds to look at my paper then hers* My teacher: OH NOW I KNOW WHY YOU AINT PAYING ATTENTION! YOU WERE DOODLING RANDOM STUFF! : *looks at my paper again* My teacher : YOU SEE *[insert my name again]* AT LEAST SHE PAYS ATTENTION TO CLASS WHILE DOODLING HER - SHARK’S ADVENTURE STORY THING. BUT YOU DON’T EVEN TRY TO PAY ATTENTION TO CLASS DO YOU HM? YOUR MOM WOULD BE ASHAMED. that’s what I remember, in that moment I felt so guilty.. I have no idea why though.. She started to cry but stopped shortly. Then the class continued, at recess time I apologized to her.

I'm nine and I'm a really smart girl I'm also really good at drawing I draw people and for me people are the easiest to draw even go to I know they are actually the hardest, but since my skill and love for drawing I would never steal anybody's art I watch a lot of art videos but I never steal anything from there owners. The first time I experienced somebody stealing art was when my friend told he drew art that was not drawn by him. So me and my friend was talking and he sent me photos I was amazed but then he said he made those I got annoyed because I saw the watermarks. He also showed me other arts. I showed him the watermarks and he even said that it was his sister's fault I was so annoyed. We're not friends anymore because he made mean comments about my favorite anime so yeah.

If someone ever steals my art and I see it, I'll ask them to draw something similar in front of everyone.

My friend would trace realistic art and say it was hers. Everyone in the class knew she drew but no one knew she traced. She was actually really good at art but she still traced. She’s still my friend to this day and I think she’s stopped but I don’t really know since we aren’t so close

I realize now that unlike actual artists, art thieves don’t actually have a carrier and even if they pass off a drawing and try to sell it, if it’s something like Pokémon then ye they’ll get sued.

When I was younger, one of my class mates went into my school draw and stole one of my cartoon animal drawings and started to claim that it was theirs and I remember that I confronted them and even showed that my signature was on it but they ended up ripping it into many pieces. Back then I would do nothing but cry because of it and I still would.

My friend used to do that back in fourth grade, we sat next to each other and in my school both fourth and fifth graders would switch between classes for the different subjects so it was quite easy for my friend to steal my art. We used to draw a lot on sticky notes/ post it notes, and we would give each to her our drawings sometimes. I always put my name on the back, but it was in pencil so anyone could have erased it. But anyway one day a fifth grader had seen my art in her desk and left her a complement saying that it was really good and she liked it. Later that day when we got back to HomeRoom my friend say that note and showed it to me and told me that one of the fifth graders had liked HER drawing, i corrected her saying that i had drawn that and given it to her, but she insisted it was hers no matter how many times i had told it wasn’t her drawing. I even told her to look at my name....turned out she had erased it and put her name, so i had no evidence. And this continued for a while and i stopped giving her my drawings.

I had a friend like that I didn’t actually like her but she didn’t have any friends so I hung out with her but then when I gave her a drawing that I made for her and she claimed it as her own Now I know why she had no friends lmao

A supportive art is if you draw them fan art or ask them if they are allowed too use their art in a video instead did just taking their art and saying they did it. It hurts a lot of artists feelings, because a lot of artists work really hard and pit a lot of time in their art pieces.

This happened to me too. In the class we were all friends and then this boy went to me and asked if he can have my drawing which I was keeping in my bag, so I gave it to him. A while later I saw lining up my drawing so I asked him if he was the one who drew that and he said yes that shocked me so fast that I literally took it and I saw my name on the back. After he said hey loud I quickly answered THIS is MY drawing! And went back to my seat. In Philippines lobby’s that are 7,8,10, or 9 are bad so he didn’t cry even if I told my teacher he would be punished but I accept a little shout is ok

My friends, we're never art thieves, I just gave them my art, and when students say ''wow, you drew this?'' they would credit me and I would teach them because they teach me how to make a fidget toy

...here is some advice to anyone who has gotten art stolen (and/or plagiarized): Just tell the nearest authority figure, show the drawing that was being copied, then theoretically it should work... someone tell me if it does ...here is some advice to art thieves: either 1 learn to draw, 2 ask for help, or 3 just make original art(if you already know how to draw) ... if you are having trouble finding inspiration, write a few random things on a paper and number it, repeat with drawing styles and actions, then use a number randomizer to see which combo... if you want, I think you should be able to search up a drawing randomizer of some sort...

I've had a friend like this, always asking me to draw pictures for them, claims it, tells the whole school. It was till my best friend told me she was claiming my art I confronted her about it before class, she actually stopped claiming my art.

lots of people said I was a really good drawer. I’d always draw pictures of animal girls and sometimes anime and I’d show my friends and they would sometimes ask me to bring my drawings home. I felt a bit uncomfortable so I’d always come up with an excuse like: I’ll colour it in when I get home! Or, I need to finish it off later I’ll come round and give it to you! (Which I didn’t do 🤡) and now I’ve watched this, I’m never letting anyone steal my art 😌

When I completed my sketchbook which took me a month to finish it, I showed it to my friends and while they were seeing it my teacher came in and asked for my book, she said she liked it and wanted to stick those sketches on the soft board outside the class, I was very excited and gave it to her and when the next day I asked her to give it back to me, she said she LOST IT. It's not a story about art theft but anyone can imagine who bad it feels when someone just casually says they lost your work which took a whole month to complete.

I am weird. Everytime anyone ask me who drew my drawing, I would say that my artist friend drew it. Because I was embarrassed. I thought that I was going to be mocked of being a weeb.

I never had my art stolen before but, if it was stolen, *I would do nothing because I don't wanna make drama with the person who stole my art, and I'm scared of myself being accused of tracing the person who traced me.*

That’s also happened to me too. One time I was at art and this girl had the same name as me but spelled differently. My name was Abby. Her name was Abbi. She said draw a cat and I did. I gave it to her and she said I’m gonna show this to my mom and say I drew this! I was so angry but my drawing improved so I’m trying to forget about it.

I trace bases, but then add a ton of little details to actually make it my own, so I don’t steal art. I love to draw, it’s just I’m best at adding details, not starting from scratch. 😅

A friend took credit for a sculpture I made and he even got the teachers to believe him. It sucked but I had the situation well under controlled and by the end of the day I won.

As an artist I hate when people take credit for others work. But growing up I didn't have to deal with art thieves, I dealed with being seen as a bad artist. The worst experience happenned to me as a kid in sixth grade when I used to make drawings for everyone. One day I asked the teacher if I could sweep the floor (I liked doing it) and she nodded yes, so while I was doing that I was also picking up crumbled pieces of paper. And what do I find, one of my artwork crumbled up into a paperball beside the trashcan. I ignored it but after that day I refused to give my art to anyone since they can't even bother to tell me it's bad they just threw it away. To this day I still draw and I love doing it so much. I keep getting inspired everyday and I feel like I'm improving and I look at my bad experiences as ways to improve and do better next time.

Same happened to me. My fake best friend liked my drawing so she said I can draw on last pages in her notebook. And one day everyone was talking about her drawings. I said the arts are mine. No one believed me so I drew something on the board. And now no one likes her and everyone call her liar.

I remember in 3rd class, a friend of mine would sometimes look over and see my drawings and be like "Omg that's so cool!!" On our breaks outside for lunch I remember walking in the classroom to go to the bathroom and I'd see her there, sitting at the table, in *my* chair. I asked her what she was doing and she suddenly pulled the copy book to her chest and be like "Oh! Nothing!!" I'd come back later to see her tracing *all* my drawings. I so totally beat hear up after that! 😂

Senior year in high school my art teacher stole student's art and added it to her portfolio. She framed everything hiding their name . But I wrote my name across the entire back of the drawing/painting/etc . I also told the principal , she wasn't an art teacher long.

Here’s something that you can do if someone asks you to draw on a paper for them to come home with: sure if you want to draw the picture you can but make sure you write your name on the side with marker or pen anything permanent hopefully they don’t get rid of it or notice it and if they do confront them in front of everyone or *(just record yourself drawing it then you’ll have proof) :)))*

I still remember when I was in year 2/grade 2. My teacher wanted my group to read The woman who fooled the fairies, then do a comprahenshion of it and make a picture of the fairies eating cake. I made a picture of a few fairies eating the giant cake and one digging into it for better taste. We all had separate books and my friend saw my drawing and she thought it looked good since I draw pretty well. THEN SHE LITTERALLY TRIED TO COPY IT INTO HER BOOK BUT I NOTICED IT!!!! I think I made her erase it then she had to draw something else. But luckily we were great friends so I didn't get mad and she never stole my art ever again.

Usually it takes the form of adding a logo or other message in a digital layer added over the top of the art which is then layer blended in some manner over the top (usually just a partial transparency). There are other forms of completely hidden digital watermarks, which can be embedded into the EXIF data of the image file or transcoded into the image itself (sort of like a hidden bar code). Aside from that, most of the discussion going on with this topic is just juvenile fantasy. For fun I poked around into the accounts and such of some of those posting their "art theft" stories and... yikes! Like poorly tracing stuff from Gacha Life or just outright using cookie cutter character creators... yeah, you're not an artist and no one is stealing your stuff. I can relate to you so much, when I was a kid, I would carry around a notebook, where I would take notes of people and things, and I would draw a picture, and some days I would just doodle in it during class, and I would make lots of stories from creative writing (My OC, was my main character of my first story I wrote in Primary school), so my OC, is called Shroomish, and she can control plants and stuff-, I don’t know why I made her, but she’s now a big part of my drawings now-, and there’s a few others from that story, and I remade that story, and it turned out well (when I’m older I’ll explain it on my channel)

I spent hours on a piece of artwork. Posted on Amino and saw it on another community. I told them politely to delete or give credit. But they acted like I was the one who stole there art. But I sent a W.I.P (uncolored) version of the art piece. But they quickly deleted it luckily a curator saw it and took down the post. :D (after I explained to the curator because if the curator was just chill or whatever like “I don’t care ok I’ll take this post down” and they ACTUALLY did it how angry would that person be?)

This also happened to me at school, I had a friend who copied my drawing during history class

It really annoys me and sometimes I got angry on people on stealing my drawings then saying they drew this and that's why I always put signatures below and using ballpen so that it won't get erased. I really don't like imitators... It kinda hurts when someone tries to copy you're art or steal them from you and saying that they draw it.

I've had my are literally stolen before, but not by an art thief. I miss that book-it had unknown hours of work in it...

The fact the you ended up being the one in trouble actually infuriates me. If I was there, I would've explained to the teacher that your so called "friend" stole your art. It's just rude and wrong and it agitates me 😡

Actually my story is similar to that: I Me and a few others are really good at drawing manga. One day, one of my friends from elementary said that I draw very well. She asked me if she could keep a picture of mine, so I gave it to her because it wasn’t that important. Keep in mind that my artwork had been going missing for the past 3 days. When I get home I scroll through social media and see her telling people that SHE drew them. How she got caught: So she told the art teacher that I stole HER work. Just then, then the art teacher pulled up one a picture of Nao Tomori and said “ Draw this”. I was so happy since that was a character I drew a lot. She looked at the paper, and then I remembered her drawings from the 5th grade. She always said she disliked my drawings and people agreed only because she had a better rep than me and 3 groupies. So as you expected her drawings, didnt look very well. Shegot suspended for plagiarism. And almost everyone celebrated. Turns out a lot of people hated her. My face was like 😐😮

Once I was a girl in a village doin alright then I got my art stolen overnight! They need to learn to do it right! There’s so much to learn and see!

I made a 3 hour dragon drawing for a friend and he started bragging about how long he drew it. I heard him bragging so I said nice drawing can you draw a bird for me and sign it he showed up with a printed bird drawing with the artist’s name covered up and he wrote his name in it. And it was Very much apparent that he did not draw it.

When I use someone else’s art I give credit! The only time I didn’t is when my friend wanted to get feedback without people making fun of it. So I volunteered to tell everyone I drew it so she could get feedback without the bullying of people not wanting her art. We still do this.

Which makes it co-op art display, not stealing :/
