I'm Ukrainian. MCR have been my favourite band since my early teenage years. I remember seeing this for the first time and being speechless, it impacted me so much... But even then I had no idea it would become reality in my own country, with my own family and friends. Years later, I'm back, listening to this song, but this time with a heavy realisation that people go through this every day, and I've seen it. The dead bodies, the destroyed cities which I used to love and wanted to build my future in, the severed families. There is nothing more horrible than war, but people never learn their lesson. Edit: it feels rude to ignore good hearted comments so thank you to everyone who shows sympathy and cares. Please donate to charities if it is in your power and don't turn a blind eye to the stories of survivors (and the ones who have been lost). Hearing what they went through and showing empathy is the least we can do for them. We must know the truth and remember them. Peace everyone.

this is probably the most heartbreaking music video these guys have done. they not only perfectly executed mikey's death sequence, but the portrayal of gerard's trauma afterward (including the symbolic trauma when he's shown losing his mind singing the song in the flashbacks) is so accurate it hurts as a 6 year old kid when this came out, i thought "oh cool war music video set to loud rock music" now as a 23 year old man, i can appreciate this music video for what it truly is. this is art in its highest form. pure, raw, heartbreaking, soul-destroying art

Britain declared war on Germany after they invaded two countries, that being Poland and Czechoslovakia. I’m not sure about the ally’s side but the nazis were told to kill anyone who didn’t join. I’ve had this album since the day it came out. I remember watching the making of this video with my grandpa. My great grandfather had passed away just before the release of the video and this video floored my grandpa. I remember hearing the pain as he sobbed. I didn’t understand until I was in my 20’s. Now I understand more these days and this video still hits home. I played this album, stopped at this song and cried for hours then played Pink Floyd’s Wall album when my grandpa passed in Sept last year. Both of these albums were his favorites. I just wish he was here to see the reunion tour that’s being done with MCR. He would’ve loved that.

Too many american soldiers died in there because its hard to arrive & fight in the sea side against Germany defense, and also Germany put a powerful defense in that site, because thats the nearest & easyway to get-in in France.

I remember watching this on music on demand before school in the mornings around 2006. I was a big rap fan but this video made me so emotional and I loved this song. Im Really into WW2 in general and this music video about storming the beaches of Normandy is amazing, never forget those young boys that died fighting for what we are today.

With the comeback of MCR with the song The Foundations of Decay i'm even more obsessed with this band. I usually hear to their songs, but now I have them on a constant loop.

I tear up every time I hear this song, thinking about the transitions of the story in the music video. From young love and optimism to the realities of the battlefield, thinking of home to pull them through, to the realisation it may be the last time they see their girls again, to the loss of friends and the outbursts of PTSD in a setting where no one seems to notice what's happening to him. Just so sad, but perfectly, artistically executed.
