Broadway performers doing what they do best. Always exciting to watch. Nothing Satanic about it, just very entertaining. Natalie Mendoza is stunningly beautiful.

Excellent performance. As for the people complaining...get a grip! I was introduced to the Alan Cumming version of Cabaret (the original run in the 90s) when I was a kid by their performance at the parade and that number was FAR more provocative than this. And none of my family complained!

I think this was my favorite performance at a Macy's Day parade ever. What an amazing job and mash up of the movie and original stuff.

I saw this performance when I was watching the parade and it was fantastic. Natalie Mendoza and the rest of the cast did an awesome job performing this amazing musical number.

What I love about this show ( and now I am seeing it in other shows) is that if the performers can dance or do what is required of them on stage then casting agents are not just picking the super slender girls.......I also saw Frozen on stage recently and the King of the two princesses was from African heritage even though the movie showed a white King and Queen.........I just like it that casting directors are choosing how well people can perform on stage and NOT that they look identical to the movie characters.

This was a great performance, though I feel bad for Natalie! Normally they try to give them warmer versions of their outfits for this event, so I’m surprised they did the costume change here. She must have been freezing!

True. They used to but now they don’t.. but i was there that day and it was actually quite chilly and not really cold so maybe that helped

They used to... I haven't seen them wear warmer outfits since either Little Shop of Horrors or Hairspray during the early to mid 2000's. I don't remember because I only saw clips of them.

These folks have every right to promote their show at such a big event, especially after a shutdown/pandemic. Moulin Rouge! doesn't have to be your cup of tea, but you don't have to be pissy, lambasting and prudish. Even though it isn't necessarily for the Sunday church crowd, there are worse things young people can view. At least this performance is relatively PG. Anyhow, bravo to the talented performers. Glad you're actually able to perform in your show. Also, shoutout to Natalie. It's nice how a replacement gets to perform at a televised event in a Scott Rudin-incriminated world.

@Carmelide please fact check before because a lot of broadway shows don’t allow kids under 4/6 into the theatre. Aladdin and frozen - two DISNEY musicals - included in that list. It’s for respectful purposes of the audience and cast since most can be distracting at that age.

Macy’s knew exactly what the show was about, and SOMEBODY at Macy’s has seen the show, yet they still invited the company to perform. Macy’s/NBC also knew exactly what they were doing when they slotted the performance in that time. The show won 10 Tony’s, and NBC wants high ratings. It’s not like the cast wore anything different than the show’s normal costumes. All MR did was accept an invitation offered to them.

@Hope King You have some really fancy lingerie in your closet then! Those were hand-crafted, professionally designed, dance costumes, which utilized a lot of flesh-colored fabric. Any public pool or beach will easily have MUCH more exposed.

@Carmelide but why are you making it sound like it’s only justifiable that a man can wear a corset and thong in drag for a family performance but a woman cant? Which brings me back to my point that it shouldn’t matter if it’s a man or a women in a corset, it was a public performance and nothing sexual or lewd actually happened. I can understand if she was in a corset swinging on a pole or doing suggestive poses, but they barely even did any choreography from the actual number and even then in the actual number theres no sexual or lewd acts. Remember, they didn’t make this costume for the parade, it’s the costume worn in the show, they already cut back on the background dancers corsets, all of the women had tear away suits on that came off at the same time and they didn’t do that, the point of the costume in context to the character is that she is the sparkling diamond.

But I believe it is incumbent on parents to choose what their children are exposed to, and by the outcry this has stimulated, I think they are outraged that this choice was taken away from them. There was no warning that this might not be appropriate for all viewers, something that is often announced at 10 PM when the kiddies are expected to be snugly tucked in bed. Our children are bombarded with sexual imagery all the time and yes a great deal does go over their heads, but was it really necessary at the Thanksgiving Day parade sandwiched between "Annie" and Snoopy? And as to the garter belts, you are correct they were almost de rigueur in the 30s, 40s and 50s; But I've seen many a Girlie magazine from those times when that, stockings and high heels were all that was worn; They are undergarments (underwear). And I'll tell you every time I saw a woman with a visible garter belt and stockings on the streets of NYC, she was a prostitute. And I'm not even against prostitution! I would love to see "Moulin Rouge" it looks visually stunning as I thought the movie was also. The costume was indeed a work of art and probably looks even better on stage when the lights hit it. But it always comes back to the parents choosing what they feel is best for their children.

@Carmelide but as a kid you wouldn't know the intent. You would just see sparkly costumes and hear a Beyonce song. The tights are fishnets they just have a garter design on them. And does a little kids even know what a garter is? No they don't. Plus garter belts were worn all the time in the 50s they were just regular undergarments like tights and stockings. People get too worked up about things that a kid isn't even going to notice or remember.

Pretty much everyone lip sings for the parade for a few reasons; singing in cold weather is pretty bad for vocal performance for one, but also coordinating the audio would be a nightmare. The artists do however record their performance beforehand so it is their real voices that you hear

most parade performances are lip synced - for various reasons like it's very early/cold/usually windy so their voices may not be at their best, plus it's a bit of a logistical nightmare to mic every performer when there are so many for just a 3 min performance. they do pre-record the vocals though so the audio you're hearing is the same people who are performing!

It’s a very good performance, but Prostitution, although it makes for some very interesting art, is obviously not a family subject. It’s Thanksgiving and the wholesomeness is completely out the door. Kinda sad that people think this was a good idea. Kinda weird too, if you want to watch a family event on Thanksgiving, you can’t watch the Macy’s Parade…
