I've given well thought out arguments and get "You're triggered" in response. And yet through all that, I have never once generalized the entire right. I look at people as individuals. Once I was vulnerable about traumatic events in my past to show an example and I got told that I was trying to win the trauma Olympics. All of these people were right wingers. I believe the first amendment, which is vital to the very foundation from which this country has survived in the way it has. I haven’t changed and Bill hasn’t changed. Our culture is changed, our patriotism has changed, and our way of life could very well change for the next generation . Yes, we have a lot of problem, but we can have a better future for all. @Travis Brunner I can think of several reasons why someone would like their own comment, the one you mentioned is just one of them. My point merely is that if someone wants real validation from others, one doesn't attempt to trick others into validating them. Hence I would say it's more likely that the person liking his/her own comments doesn't do so because he/she wants validation from others, but merely wants to impress others by making it seem they get validated a lot of other people. Though of course there are other options left. What about those who don't care that much about others, and are merely quite satisfied about a comment they just wrote and as such like it similarly to any other comment irrelevant of who authored it. Or what about those who accidently clicked the like button. Sure they may be a small minority, but I wouldn't estimate their number at zero. Hence when it comes to an individual case like this, I don't exclude those options. In this particular case I don't even know whether or not Travis liked his own comment, I merely noticed the accusation he did without any substantiation he actually did. Seems to me these days many people are more willing to falsly accuse someone else than to spend half a minute to think about it before doing so.

Hence what is considered to be common sense can differ greatly depending on which group of people is referred to. For instance, for aboriginals it's common sense to always be capable to find your way home without a navigation app on your phone or even a paper map while I happen to know many people where I live who would get lost in their own village if it wasn't for their smartphone. Another example of where common sense can differ depending on the group of people that is referred to is provided in the second half of your last comment. My name is not Bil, I don't live in America, I happen to live in the Netherlands. I don't own any establishment like Wal-mart, I've never even seen a Wal-mart other than on a screen, nor did I say anything about wearing masks. To me it would be common sense to check wether or not my name is Bil, whether I do live in America, whether I have anything to do with Wal-mart and whether I actually said anything about masks before making any claims about it as if all of those are the case. In other words: to me it is common sense to verify what you merely suspect about someone else in order to prevent accusing that someone from something he/she didn't even do. Apparantly that is a kind of common sense that is not common among the two of us and as such doesn't qualify as common sense when the group of people refferred to contains both of us. So for now I will assume that when you invoke 'common sense' again, it refers to something that is merely common among Canadians.

It's what got my interest in mathematics, one of the few places where most concepts stay the same. I'd take it that that person would argue that the gall bladder is not the liver and as such it doesn't count. But in case of foi grasse it's rather obvious something has accumulated in the liver. Even when the subject is mathematical or biological, two subjects I studied at a dutch university while their phd is in economics or history. (the next part is a bit longer than anticipated and contains mostly personal examples, so feel free to skip it and jump to the last sentence if you don't have that much free time) I recently had a conversation with someone claiming to have a master human nutrition, while claiming that no harmful substances accumulate in the liver, but instead that the liver decomposes all harmfull substances and that their products leave the human body via the gut. While I learned with biology that though the liver decomposes many harmfull substances, these producs end up in the blood (and not the gut) and then get filtered out by the kidneys and leave the body with the urine, and that there are some subtances that the liver cannot process and that these substances can accumulate in the liver. Apparantly we have someone here with a master human nutrition who hasn't even learned the difference between pee and poo. She didn't provide any references or reasoning for any of her claims, but instead merely denied my objections to her statements with the claim :"But I have a master human nutrition, which seems a fine base to be allowed to say something about the matter". She started her comments with the recommondation on healthy food, which according to her doesn't contain any vegetables or fibers but should instead be animal based, especially gelatine rich parts and organ meat. That's where my objection started, as livers do accumulate toxins it cannot process, and besides the livers of polar bears happen to have a for humans deadly amount of vitamin A already. Hence I objected that the advice to consume organ meat should not be stated so general but instead should be more specific. She didn't even had the decency to admit that, in the particular case of polar bear livers, human consumption is not the best advice, she just completely ignored the example. I also happen to have several friends with a phd who still have a tendency to make rather ill informed claims and are hard to correct on them when it comes to subjects that are outside of their field of expertise. Or even friends who claimed that I was just having silly ideas after I said something that I've witnessed with my own eyes, only to come back to me 10 years later and admitt that I had been right all along. As at the moment they refused to even go look where I witnessed what I was talking about, and when 10 years later they got there after all, they saw it as well. The fact that they on their own initiative came back to me and admitted they were wrong about that an I had been right all along is a mojor reason why I count them among my best friends. So I would agree that a real scientist ought to be at least able to provide the answers you mention in cases where they are the most accurate answer from a scientific point of vieuw, alas there are many with a phd who lack this capability and as such are not real scientists.

I havent had the virus yet for two years. When everybody was staying home I was buying coffee and donuts at the gas station everyday until they took it away. I believe i almost died from it three years ago , but whatever I had made my immune system stronger. I maybe used a hand wipe a couple of times.I tested for it three times when I thought i had it , never goit it. My one son had it who lives with me and my other son never got it either.

I don't mind a few (but not all) of the precautions, including masks, for 1 big reason: I haven't gotten sick with ANYTHING since they've been mandatory. No colds, no Flu's, nothing! Before restrictions went into effect, I would easily get sick 6-7 times per year, most of which were due to my child catching a virus at school. For 2 years now, that's meant u 40-50 days/year free from coughing, sneezing, muscle aches, sore throats, raw/stuffy noses, fevers, a cranky spouse, a whining teenager, expensive OTC medicines, etc. Plus, I get to dress like a ninja.

Here we go with the monologue clapping again...Bill....stop....the audience claps enough.....you don't need to join in...

Accepting death is a little too fatalistic for me, I think a good fight makes us more deserving of life and stronger for the effort. The fight we lose for one group may reveal the information needed to save the next person. Even after exhaustive research, would you accept anyone's findings on who and where this disease originated if it conflicted with your belief? We can't even hold a president accountable when we witness his crimes on video, paper, and testimony.

When I was diagnosed with breast cancer I didn't cry about losing my breasts or my hair falling out from chemo. At no point did I feel I should judge the many women who do have those reactions, nor did I feel my lack of emotion somehow made me stronger (something I sense is the implication of those who take no or minimum COVID-19 precautions). But I will say this: I got lucky. You and your mother? You both got lucky, too. Millions of others didn't. I think a better attitude, in light of all those who've died, the loved ones left behind, for those struggling with "long COVID", and those left with residue damage to their bodies, would be to NOT say things like, "no idea how the world shut down over this".

I just want to say that right after you shook Timothy Snyder’s hand, your hand wind straight to your mouth…Twice. Maybe you should social distance Bill.
