I don’t think it’s usual to have the “no shoe” statement on leases haha By the way, you can hang stuff on the wall if you use a special hook for drywall! That’s how I hung my ikea mirror (the hooks I bought can hang up to 15 kg) Since pushpins are allowed by law, the hooks use a triple pin system to securely (and discretely) hang things on apartments. I think they’re called ロックピン

The mudroom area is what they call genkan here in japan.

If you wear shoes in the house it might damage the soft wood and the floor would have to be cleaned more often which also damages the floor(because of the rubbing and chemicals). It is just in the lease to protect the house.

I’m from Canada and takin off our shoes in the house is just a normal thing to do. I can’t really picture walking inside a home with shoes on. Idk why people find that strange to take off shoes in the house. In school we take off our outdoor shoes to put on our indoor shoes (cuz outside shoes get dirty) but at home and in other peoples homes we just wear our socks. Is that out of the ordinary for America? Cuz I think it’s normal and a no-brainer thing to do. Idk

I lived in Japan for a little over a year and my apartment resembled your house so much!! Even the wall textures was the same lol (I also had that type of fridge but we never got the other side to work... idk if there’s a latch when you first get it but we weren’t there that long that it bothered us) I absolutely loved it there and I would definitely go back to live in Japan!!

I live in Canada and most everyone takes off their shoes inside their own and other people's homes. It's considered a bit rude not to. A lot of my family is from the states so I was quite taken aback when they all stomped around their house in shoes regardless of the weather lol

That's a really big apartment for Japan. If the floor is solid wood you may be able to gently steam the dent out, but not if it is laminate.
