She sings well, but nobody seems to have realized something fundamental, not only that her voice does not have bottom (non ha gravi) but she does not have the color for dramatic roles

She sings more than well, with perfect legato and gorgeous diction, and was never one for exaggerating chest, a true artist !

@yeongiwon1 What nonsense you say that a spinto soprano does not have high notes and does not have dynamics? Do you know what you say? Mirella Freni is Micaela, Adina, Susanna, Zerlina, as the most dramatic thing she had to sing was Boheme and at the most of everything up was Simon Boccanegra, that was the limit for Freni. Freni, a pure lyrical soprano and Scotto a soprano coloratura lyric scammed the public by singing operas like: Freni (Aida, Don Carlo, Adriana Lecouvreur, Ernani, M.Lescaut) and Scotto (Norma, Ballo in maschera, Gioconda, Tosca, a scam , a robbery) Scotto was even worse with her colorless voice.

look their singing at difficult parts like requiring diminuendo legato and high tones. They couldn't express its sensitively and detail. And They coundn't last their carrier for long time. Great vocal technique lasts for long time. But unnatural vocal technique makes to stop their carrier rapidly. Even though they sing loud.Great singers can sing variety roles never push to chest voice. This is that I've been seeing for 30years through past many singers.

@yeongiwon1 Nonsense, the dramatic or lyric/dramatic soprano MUST have bottom, and the dramatic soprano or the spinto soprano has high notes (spinto soprano high notes). Freni is a "pure" lyrical soprano and aside she has no bottom her voice has no the color for the dramatic roles.

Well... the singers looking for bottom will be struggled at high tones and difficult phrase tones. Finally they will stop their carrier shorter. But Freni extended her carrier until 60years cause of her natural vocal technique.

GRANDISSIMA MIRELLA FRENI.

@yeongiwon1 Pavarotti admired many great tenors, he was especially influenced by Gigli, whom he had met as a young boy, Björling and Di Stefano . But he also inevitably absorbed from the greats before him like Corelli, of whom he spoke with admiration. It s a sign of greatness to be humble , in this both Mirella and he were thankful to their teachers and later to some of the major conductors they worked with.

@Musettina6 Adina yes..I red Leone Magiera autobiography long time ago when I lived in korea. He admired franco corelli. And he remembered corectly the legendary performance Romeo et jiuliette with Corelli,Freni in Philadelphia. I also guess that he must have affected to Pavarotti. Pavarotti's vocal technique in middle period to final was a little similar with Corelli's vocal technique. Yes.right..Freni would follow the advices of great conductors. It show us that she was humble woman. Approximately great singers humbly accept other people opnion that have great ear.At the same time They're in moderation and maintain the balance of vocal.Freni was most great soprano that I've seen for 30years.God blessed her.

@yeongiwon1 she and Luciano both studied mot only with Campogalliani, but also with Leone Magiera, Mirella s first husband. They used to do so actually on a daily basis in the years before Luciano s career took off internationally. Mirella was also absorbing and listening to the advice of the great conductors she worked with, like Karajan she sang for many times . There was a slow ripening of her voice, she was carefully avoiding roles that would have proven too heavy vocally at an early age. Am sure the fact she was a “ careful administrator “ of her vocal talent helped her voice grow naturally in size, as her career developed over the years.

@Musettina6 Adina Wow...I envy you. I wanted to see her Fedora in Live stage. Because I like her voice from 1985 to final year.I know she sang fedora several times in her final period. I know her vocal teacher was campo galiani.But...Somehow her voice was naturally totally opened from 1985. The voice was totally different with previous years at that year. I really wonder who affected to her vocal technique. At 50 years old,she developed her vocal technique. Pavarotti was same with her.He sang much better than young age. If I couldn't her voice in the hall,I think it would be really spread round voice. Is it right like this?

@yeongiwon1 she had the same voice teacher - and was breastfed the same milk as a baby! - as Pavarotti . I heard her many times, the first one at the Met was in Margherita s aria from Boito s Mefistofele. She stunned me. As she did as Elisabetta, Tatiana, Fedora. But probably the role I most enjoyed hearing her sing was her Mimì to Luciano s Rodolfo, conducted by Kleiber. Those MET performances were literally out of this world. Two characters that so resembled their own beginnings in life, a perfect combination of two golden voices that had sung together since their teenage years, and that conductor. Nothing less than sublime,at all levels.
