What I love most about the podcasts lex, is the simple yet extraordinarily important questions you ask..these guests are stalwarts in their fields and explaining concepts that viewers can understand can be hard..definitions on concepts are so crucial for people to put things into context..The goal of a podcast is to educate and not to befuddle the viewer more than when they began listening..keep up the great work!

Insightful Analysis Hodder. I think the market will recover quicker than expected. The stock market behaves the way it does, because there will always be people who: - sell at highs bringing it down - panic sell due to it dropping, bringing it lower - buy at the lows, bringing it back up - buy back in while it's rising

There's some engineers some physicist, etc. But hidden in plain sight, there's some really brilliant ones that manage to digest many concepts without problems. This guy is one of them. This is the kind of guy that was sufficiently open to see what all this was about, make a turn, push hard, then some. Then contribute, changed his whole company, people around it. And accepts to be questioned. Legend!

Vor Monat

@Eight Point Cross Is not about trust to this guy, and he already talked about the first time a friend of his tried to get him to understand, and he didn't get it. As many. I mined before BTC was out, there was a little old site called e-gold, not the one that is right now. It was like 2 years before BTC, I mined a lot and didn't went anywhere. Then when BTC was public I've mine a few coins in cpu. So is not about trusting this people. Is about a guy that understand physics and loves closed systems, the actual lost in thermodynamics, what's the entropy of every system. Etc. Besides, he put 79% if his company, which by the way, it's doing business in logistics, which helped a lot, thinking in general as a multidimensional vector. In general, he likes as I do, to apply numbers and trajectories to any dynamic system. That's why is grate to have people like this engaged on crypto. Is your responsibility to decide what to do. Not to follow their steps.

Thanks for the interview, Lex. I enjoy listening to the historical context that Saylor brings to the picture. I was an aero major, too. Started out doing nuclear eng in the Navy. Transitioned to software/CS then distributed network engineering after that. I never took any formal finance or economics courses. @Mavendow what do you mean "fix based coin"? No, Bitcoin is deflationary. It's only math. Simple supply and demand. There will only ever be 21 million Bitcoin. The supply for the reward of solving a block is cut in half every four years. If demand stays the same, price will increase. The brilliant part about it is if you get a thousand computers with higher power to solve blocks...the difficulty of solving a block becomes greater..

@Mavendow the only way currencies increase is from investors in the faith of the future that it will do well and make them more money rather than lose thier money, it has no bases on other currencies other than the idea that they " overshadow " them currently.... its basically a game thats betting on the fear and hopes of humans that believe that monetary value is the means of thier lives

Same here. I would say that, coming out of school, I kind of had a sense of how little I knew about economics though. Through elective classes as well as through learning more about economics in my free time out of interest, and seeing the breadth and depth of topics that my degree barely touched on. For my undergrad economics degree at least, i would say it was centered on the foundational trends in micro/macroeconomics. But Michael is completely right that economics is so incredibly complex, and that we as a society don’t address its problems as if that were the case. Our global economy is an emergent system that no one person can completely comprehend, unfortunately. And I think he’s also right that we are going to be facing some economic hardships in the near future resulting from how we’ve chosen to manage that system.

One of the best explanations of "Inflation" I have heard in my life. Another great interview Lex.

Vor 4 Monate
InsanePorcupine
InsanePorcupine

His explanation didn't even make sense. How is the government going to cause inflation if no new money is made from fractional reserve banking or printing money with a growing population. That would lead to deflation. Think of it like this, If I have 10 pounds of gold and 10 dollars to represent the 10 pounds, that's 1 dollar pre pound. Now if I produce more gold, and say have 20 pounds then each dollar is worth 2 pounds of gold. So given this, if you have a population of 100million, and now you have 200 million, and they still have the same money supply, they will value that money higher because there is less of it to go around for that population. He ignores this most basic point and says the government will still cause inflation which is absurd. Still the way inflation is handled now isn't great or even correct, and I agree with a lot of his criticisms, but his solutions are not going to work because he misses some fundamental points, like part of inflation is just private firms increasing prices to maximize profits, especially in a monopoly situation.

Saylor has money and speaks confidently, this is what people see, feel, and hear. Though, they don't seem to really understand what he is proclaiming. And, having said all that... I like BTC! I am a 40 yr old American male with very little understanding of crypto. I came here hoping to be 1) educated on crypto/ Bitcoin and 2) convinced Bitcoin is a sound investment and future widely accepted "asset". My concern after listening to the first 2hrs: The learning curve of Bitcoin--relative to owning gold--places it in such an esoteric playing field (maybe 5% of the planet understands the "layers" 1-3 Michael is explaining). You may have a hard time convincing the other 95% of the planet, WHY THEY SHOULD BUY IN even at it's current cheapest price since 2020

Here's an anecdote: I got retired in March 2020 effectively at 60, sans 10 million dollars savings, and placed on SSDI. My income is 21K, I own my house, I have no car and minimal access to a minimal health care system. I have a nice back yard and I'm growing my own medicine and some food. I'm happy but my 'hedonistic' scale is very realistic and fluid. I'm listening very carefully for practical solutions. Thanks for this channel :)

Absolutely fantastic Lex, loved your holistic human conditioning questions, how the whole of science, maths, economy, each a sector of human lives at different Times. Tech increasing life expectancy, but everyone hates computers lol Good open conversation mate, thanks to you and Michael. I love how Tech brings Real Analytics rather than Value Driven Opinions.

Great podcast, although I would like to point out some inconsistencies in Michael's arguments: 1. Regarding the layers of Bitcoin segment. He keeps comparing Bitcoin to assets like stocks and bonds (or as he refers to them as securities), and it is true, often you cannot disassociate these assets from your custodian. But isn't Bitcoin considered a currency? It is used as a medium of exchange and touted by its proponents to be a digital 'currency' and if we look at other currencies, you can in fact withdraw them from your custodian's account, and even hold them in physical form (cash) - granted, currencies rely on the sovereignty of the nation and their acceptance among its citizens, but this is no different from Bitcoin relying on universal acceptance. 2. Regarding the promotion of so called 'securities' as opposed to Bitcoin. Bitcoin is traded on exchanges like securities (stocks), so buying bitcoin and then promoting it can lead to profits just as it can in stocks. So there is in fact a conflict of interest when promoting Bitcoin, and similar ethical principles that apply to stocks should apply to Bitcoin.

I'd give an arm to be half as smart as these guys. Fun fact. In my country they took housing out of the "market basket" like 30 years ago, because it was "an investment".

Economics isn't complicated. We knew what money printing was going to do, the cause and effect is clearly and simply known. What makes economics complicated is; corruption, deception, concealment, denial and time lag. People don't seem to be good at putting cause and effect together if there's significant time lag between the cause and the effect. But a person who knows economics and has a decent memory knows what caused the problem when the effect is realized because it's not that complicated. We know runaway money printing was the setting of an economic time bomb but in denial we just hope that runaway inflation isn't about to happen and we don't want to believe that the people who did it were selling us into financial ruin. But none of that is because economics is hard to understand or our models aren't complex enough. If anything the more complex the model the easier it is to just BS people that it's too hard to understand and that it's just the way the wind was blowing that caused the next economic collapse
