Making a layered plywood hifi unit for a customer. This type of furniture is how i first started my business and was my trademark style, my audiophile customers really liked it because it is heavy and very solid so makes a good platform for a turntable.

I have to confess that, as a hobbyist guitar maker, I cringed seeing this beautiful piece of solid quarter saw tone wood being cut in small pieces and mixed with plywood. But the final result is amazing, very classy! Congratulations!

You need to discuss the plans on screen, possibly using Sketchup or something similar, before diving into the construction. If you're going to steal the "New Yankee Workshop" name, take its format too.

great build, thanks for the video. I wonder; can you tell me how even the depth is as birch multiplex has not a perfect thickness throughout or is it randomized by using all the layers from different parts of the sheet?

I'd imagine a CNC machine could save you a lot of time and effort with how it could cut exact pieces that require far less work routing the edges flush, cleaning up.... Plus you could design two sets of pieces that are full width top sections with separate short legs, and another that's full height legs with narrow top section and stack them alternatingly. Making them all just rectangular pieces, saving on wasted wood, and also the join being identical every time in an alternating pattern would look professional even if it was noticeable in the end.

Amazing: imaginative and very useful! Please watch the H&S lapses though: I used to be a school woodwork teacher, so it is my conscience speaking! 1) Not setting guard on bandsaw to minimum bare blade above the job. 2) Fingers closer than 150 mm to bandsaw blade. Always use a push stick. Why risk a thumb? 3) Leaving machine running unattended. 4) Hand router cable management. All the best, keep up the brilliant work!

Nice! Come up same technique with plywood around 5 years ago, just made towers from 75x40x18mm peaces and then just mitered the corners as frame, did all kind of material removal inside to insert 10mm thick glass, then realized it was bit weak, so routed slot on under side to fit with some construction glue steel frame inside with connection points for legs, topping it off with plywood, finished surface semi successfully with mixing acetone and color coding paste from mixing machine (with out base paint or lacker just the water based paste) that dried almost immediately, then scotchbrighter surface and put on several coats of urethane based lacquer thinned a bit to soak deep into plywood. With this i got rather nice surface. First attempt of using vinegar and iron wool failed gloriously due first it containing too much moisture that caused cracking and attempt on boiling the water away caused it to oxidize almost instantly, but if you are looking rust color that is the way btw! Inside i put infinity mirror and on the center island 22inc monitor running rasberry pi and home theater OS to play visualizations. The table leg is old V8 engine block as pistons on legs and of course RGB lighting inside the block. Party coffee table at its finest one could say. Maybe i'l do video of it someday, still have couple minor things to do, its been on the back burner for a while.
