Also, Buu did have quite a few memorable moments in Super. Particularly in Tournament of Power exhibition where they gave him 3 pretty cool fight scenes. And later especially in the Moro arc where Buu becomes important again and is essentially responsible for saving the entire planet when he lets the Grand Supreme Kai take over his body.

Buu was a worthy final villain for the Dragon Ball series for decades. It basically embodies the entire franchise up into that point. Fat Buu embodies the classic Dragon Ball Toriyama humor, Evil Buu/ Super Buu references King Piccolo as he’s the Evil Half of Buu as becoming a more “Younger” version of the evil self. Super Buu absorbing some of the cast like Cell. Kid Buu demonstrating the Big things come in small packages like with Vegeta and Frieza.

It's interesting how you can tell the difference between DBZ villains characterization wise via what they do when they get Vegeta alone before killing him. Freiza just lets Vegeta go off before being like oh I have another form and utterly crushing his spirit before killing him. Perfect Cell doesn't really have time for the mind games and establishes his dominance immediately so he could understand how much he screwed up and is like I'll kill him later, Fat Buu just walks through everything and makes Vegeta realize he doesn't have anything he can throw at him is pointless while seemingly treating it like tag and Kid Buu just acts like a 3 year olds who's ecstatic he found a toy he doesn't break with a single hit. it's pretty cool for how many character traits villains tend to share and reminds me there's a reason Toriyama made so many iconic villains.

What’s also important to remember is that Majin Buu wasn’t even genuinely evil at first. Fat Buu said to Hercule at one point that he destroys stuff bc it’s fun/that’s what Bibidi and Bobidi (Babidi?) told him having fun was. Buu’s basically just a little boy in a planet-shattering body, which is kinda how Hercule/Goku convinced him to lay off the indiscriminate murder and also pimp slap Babidi into a wall. Kid Buu, on the other hand, has no restraint, remorse, or any kind of higher thought in that tiny pink body.

Out of every villain, I personally think Buu is just built different. He's the embodiment of *Death,* but will literally play with his food before destroying the entire planet.

Buu to me was always the perfect mix of family friendly goofiness and absolutely HORRIFYING. He looks innocent and childlike while having the power to destroy galaxies. He loves eating sweets, but does so by turning *people* into sweets and eating them. The pink skin gives off an air of fun happiness, only to find out he's completely malleable and basically immortal. Oh and he gets stronger by absorbing people in the most disturbing looking way possible. He's a MONSTER disguised as Nintendo looking character.

Majin Buu gets a lot of hate, but I personally think he's a really interesting villain. Fat Buu is so playful while being a menacing killer. Then you get a really unique moment with Buu's good and evil side separating and Fat Buu vs. Evil Buu. Super Buu has an amazing introduction with making that one dude pop like a balloon and then killing almost all humans. Then, Kid Buu tops that by blowing up the Earth. I also love how Buu is defeated by everyone giving Goku their energy for the spirit bomb. It reminds me of how everyone worked together to take down Vegeta in the Saiyan saga. A nice way to tie the beginning and end of DBZ together.

Writing wise, cell saga was better because of all the themes and symbolism, but entertainment and humor wise, Buu saga claps. Ironically, the buu saga feels more like Toriyama's work than the cell saga. The cell saga lacked Toriyama's usual humor, charm, and lighthearted moments. This is because Toriyama didn't write a lot of the cell saga by himself. Most of the things that we loved about the cell saga came from Toriyama's EDITOR and not himself. For example, Toriyama wanted Dr Gero and Andriod 19 to be the main villains of the cell saga, but his editor made fun of his idea. As a result, Toriyama created Andriod 17 and 18, but his editor made fun of his idea again. Finally, Toriyama created Cell, and the editor loved the idea but he hated Cell's first form and second form design, so Toriyama created perfect Cell.
