Live from CERN: Join us for the first collisions for physics at 13.6 TeV!

  • Am Vor Monat

    CERNCERN

In April 2022, CERN restarted the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) after more than three years of maintenance and upgrades, known as Long Shutdown 2 (LS2).

Since then, experts have worked around the clock to progressively recommission the machine and safely ramp up the energy and intensity of the beams before delivering collisions to the LHC experiments at the world-record energy of 13.6 trillion electronvolts (13.6 TeV). These high-energy collisions with stable beams will mark the beginning of the third run of the LHC, called Run 3.

Join CERN scientists live on 5 July, 16.00 CEST to celebrate this world record and the upcoming physics season.

what happened to know the segments of this can be modularly replaced for custom experimentation. now what I would find an interesting challenge for this is the mass insertion of atoms spun up and a section of this used as an exhaust port to study microscopic interactions of energy within minor physical replicas of atomic networks. so to further articulate the depth of what I'm trying to describe is bulk amounts of atoms loosely dropped into the running particle accelerator measured amounts of different atoms interacting with each other. I'm not looking to smash these atoms I just want to see them run a circuit and see their unique interactions of energies with custom combinations of different types of atoms. different patterns of insertion also. the difficult thing is going to be the custom exhausting of them because some instances you going to want to alter the acceleration forces of these atoms without them being ejected so a custom exhaust that will trap door finish sections of experimentation to be expelled from the test stream so the next combination of Adams can be inserted. now if you flood these atoms into the accelerator and get them moving it would be interesting to see how a different type of atom put in the center core of these other atoms moving with interact. I don't think this is achievable without smashing the test Adam that you want encompassed in the envelope of already existing Adams underway would survive you would have to insert your test Adam that you want to in bed around other traveling atoms and have it increasing speed to slowly overpass the moving bulk of your atoms to slowly insert itself through the fast moving stream.

Have you tried running two beams alongside one another instead of crashing? Can you keep both beams parallel, and can you record the harmonics emitted from a speed of 12.5-13.6 TeV? Have you tested the space between the parallel beams at varying degrees of space leading up to that TeV level? Is there any development of a material alteration within the circular space? Do you have readers monitoring the space between the ring for changes in the composited forms or the space between formed objects?

Vor Monat
ReiLeeLive

@ryanisflyboy Thanks for the detailed reply, and yes it answers one of the question posed previously. Is there a way to keep the beams/bunches on a straight circular path without varying degrees of play? Isn't a powered magnetic system capable of finite containment across vast distances? This could prevent the bump effect you were talking about and allow a more precise readout. --- I would like to know about the material space inside the ring/circle.

Vor Monat
ryanisflyboy
ryanisflyboy

@ReiLeeLive, I understand now. Thank you for clarifying. The beams do run in opposite directions, but there are various cases in which the beams are "split" to some degree. At least enough to observe the effects you are asking about. It would be helpful to discuss what the "beam" actually is. In reality, the beam is made up of a series of packets of hadrons called "bunches." Each bunch is measured and spaced from the bunch that follows it, based on the timing. In this case, nominal bunches are spaced 25 nanoseconds apart. Each bunch itself isn't really a tightly packed column of hadrons. In reality, it is more like a thin cloudy column. The sides or edges of the bunch can strike the material in the machine and cause problems. To protect the LHC, there are a series of collimators that remove the unwanted edge of the bunch in a safe way. When these high energy particles strike the side of a collimator's material, it does change the structure of those devices (transmutation, as you've asked about). The effect is very small, but those particles can decay in to a variety of elements. Some of them are radioactive. Not very much is created. Over a very long time, however, those changed structures can accumulate. This can then interact with and cause problems with other systems at the LHC. Eventually these have to be replaced. Hope that helps answer the question. In short, it does happen. it is just a very, very small effect.

Vor Monat
ReiLeeLive

@ryanisflyboy It was my understanding that the beams do not run parallel, they run opposite directions. and smash together instead of running side by side. The cern ring is underground, is there detectors for the space inside the circle, even if its filled with dirt, rocks, earth, etc..? Since the beams are running at such a fast powered rate, there might be changes to the physical forms. Speculations determine the potential of the compositions of matter to act differently, such as slight bond expansion, additional molecule spacing, new bonds/packets of matter, and other particulates. Composited forms are anything physical that is formed, eg, a rock, a speck of dirt, minerals, etc. Running the beams against and alongside one-another, might give data to the space inside the circle since the energy and magnetic fields are adjusted. Checking the very center of the ring/circle, might reveal additional data when trying to produce portals.

Vor Monat
ryanisflyboy
ryanisflyboy

Beams do run parallel. There are no "harmonics." Maybe if you could be more specific? What do you mean by "material alteration within the circular space?" What do you mean by changes in the "composited forms?" If you could offer some clarity I might be able to help. The short answer is probably none of that is happening, at all.

Are you asking if multiple protons colide for each proton bunch crossing? If so then the answer is yes and the technical term for this is pileup. A pileup of 50 means that we will have 50 protons colliding on average per bunch crossing. This makes analysing the signals more challenging but it is essential if we want to get more data and access rarer processes. Each one of those simultaneous collisions could give one interesting process. Remember that the rate at which we are getting interesting events is ~1 for every 40,000 collisions.

The Mandela Effect Conundrum The Mandela Effect made E.T. home phone, and turned my life into the Twilight Zone. Now I'm driving a Ford with the curly Q. It's been here a long time. Can that be true? That pigtail makes no sense to me, But they say it's recorded in history. Berenstein had some delightful bears. When the stain appeared, that drew some stares. Ellis Island had a statue called Liberty, but she moved to a new locality. This new Earth is a mystery, time to learn new history. Did Forrest say is or did he say was? The internet is all a buzz. Chartreuse was red as I recall, but now it's green and that's not all. The stop light had green on top before, Now I see red there and so much more. J.C.Penney has an extra e. It came from Febreeze, I do believe. The map of the world is not the same. Svalbard to me is a strange new name. If your memories don't match what you see, you're in the Outer Limits, just like me. New Zealand moved south. That's so lame. The North Pole is gone. Now that's a shame. The Mandela Effect is disturbing to me. Captain Kirk did say " Beam me up Scotty." The Wizard of Oz was so much fun, before the Scarecrow got his gun. People say I'm obsessed, and that might be true, though I can't believe Hitler's eyes turned blue. The sun is white and very bright, I wonder where the moon will be tonight. The lion stopped lying with the lamb, The big bad wolf put us in a jam. Celebrities die and live again, I just can't see how that's happening. South America shifted to the east they say, now the Panama Canal goes a different way. Australia moved north. What a blunder. There's no way that's the land down under. Cuba is bigger than it was before, and the Arctic Ice Cap is no more. Sally Fields was the Flying Nun, now her s is gone like our yellow sun. Tom Cruise lost his shades, and that's not right, I remember his shirt color was white. Fruit Loops went away one day, and Cap'n Crunch is here to stay. Darth said no, but that can't be, Luke is what he said in that movie. The Monopoly man lost his monocle, So I have to wonder, where did it go? Mona Lisa got a name and a smile, the Thinker moved his hand for a while. Dolly had braces, that's a fact. Maybe a flip flop will bring them back. The Wicked Witch says fly, fly, fly, when scary monkeys fill the sky. The Mandela Effect took a hold of me, altered some things in my reality. Land masses out of place, here and there, people once deceased, now alive I swear. Movies I saw many times before, have changed and shocked me to the core. Songs I listened to in my youth, are not the same. That is the truth. What is this place? What put us here? We must be strong, not give in to fear.

"At CERN every day we try to answer primordial questions. As you might know, the Standard Model of particle physics, a theory developed in the early 1970s that describes the fundamental particles and their interactions, has precisely predicted a wide variety of phenomena and so far successfully explained almost all experimental results in particle physics. But the Standard Model is incomplete. It leaves many questions open, which the LHC will try to answer. The Large Hadron Collider will embark on a third run to uncover more cosmic secrets. Ten years ago, scientists were able to discover the Higgs Boson particle and help make sense of the universe using the Large Hadron Collider. They did it again in 2018, unlocking new insights on protons"

So that people get a feeling, of how much 13.6 TeV energy is: 13.6 TeV are equal to around 0.00000218 Joule. The energy needed to lift an object of 1 kg mass for a height of 1 m is approximately 10 Joule. Also 100 g of chocolate provides nutritional energy of around 2000 kJ for your body (at least the one I am holding at the moment). So in the macroscopic world 13.6 TeV feels like nothing. But for single particles, which have masses that are much much smaller, this is quite extraordinary. "The annual electricity bill is around 48 M€ for electricity (+ 4 M€ for distribution). CERN receives its electricity via two very-high voltage (400 kV) power lines connected to the French national grid at the Bois-Tollot substation near the Prévessin site. An emergency back-up supply (130 kV) provided by the Swiss grid can be used if the 400 kV supply fails, for example, to power up and reconnect CERN’s general services and security systems (buildings, offices, safety systems, etc.)."

So if you split an atom, and you get a huge explosion, why do they think they won't blow that place up with particles?

Vor Monat
Stijn
Stijn

because they don't split an atom as in nuclear fission, they are splitting a proton and therefore there is no splitting of an atom. just for referrence to get 1 watt of power out of nuclear fission, you'd need 3.2*10^11 so 32 000 000 000 events just to create one watt of power. this machine produces 40 million collisions per second so even if it would be fission, which it is not, it would only produce 0,1% of 1 watt of thermal power. ps. i'm absolutly not an expert in this field just some google searches on physics is how i try to understand this machine. if i'm wrong on this, i'd be happy to learn.

Vor Monat
The Arrow
The Arrow

@FishMoleyAugh When you collide particles and break them apart, more particles tend to arrive from those collisions. This is how we found out there protons neutrons and electrons in an atom and it's nucleus, this is how we found out quarks are inside protons and neutrons. And so on and on. We haven't reached the limit of smallest particles yet. For example how do you know what's inside something without breaking it apart? You can't scan atoms and subatomic particles like you do with a human body 🤣

Vor Monat
The Arrow
The Arrow

@Dracxula brah in order to overcome the strong force (gluons), theoretically you need a particle accelerator the size of our solar system's circumference. And even with that much power it's near impossible to achieve such energy. So don't worry, nothing has happend with 13.6 TeV collision 🤣

How much will the declining magnetic field affect the collider, and is all this gadgetry powered by wind or solar?

Vor Monat

@justagirpup Neither a quantum computer nor dark matter can "power" anything.

Vor Monat
Björn Feuerbacher
Björn Feuerbacher

@Speedy Steve: The declining magnetic field of the Earth is affecting this not at all. They make their own magnetic fields, using superconducting electromagnets. And it's power mostly by electricity coming from nuclear power plants.

I would be willing to leave if I knew I wasn't walking out into the abyss and if I wasn't being harassed while leaving. I have never had problems with people before and it's because of the narrative of fear that has been ingrained within me and the world. Knowing that I've left the situation more than 15 times without the tools of being able to co-create with others and consciously create by myself because of the intentional blocks placed by collaborative effort and the amount of negative energy coming towards me. Is there any way you can cut the broadcast?! I can't function knowing I am being hunted. This has been humiliating. I am not worried about my ability to create. I am worried about the people treating me with disrespect because of what they think they know. No need to respond I just didn't want you to think I'm being slow due to my nature. I'm being slow because of fear and pain. Not to mention nobody has any respect to tell me what is expected of me, other than death. Death is not on my agenda, I have a son who needs me and I have grandchildren, I want to be a part of their lives. I can't heal in a situation like this. I know what my issue is and it wouldn't exist if my life were somewhat normal. No need to comment. I just wanted you to know how I feel. 🧐😢🙈🙉🙊💔 I am truly heart broken. Truth is what I desire.

I know from a little to nothing about cern, I used to see videos about it at school, But I have a question, in the minute 38:58 on the right view screen at the middle top, says 04/25/22 hour 10.04, why is a different date on the screen? Just asking, I really like this kind of experiments, I used to dream being a scientist one day, Thanks

the machine was turned on the 22nd of april after a 3 year upgrade period. the machine performed tests to ensure a correct working. one of those test following the startup after the 3 years is displayed on this screen and has a lot of people confused with not live transmitting or some kind of conspiricy theory. btw yeah being a scientist in cern would be frikkin awesome.
