Prepare to cry The Drops of Jupiter one is actually a really interesting case. It's the perfect reason as to why you should never put relationship easter eggs in your lyrics. The story behind the song is unbelievably sad. Rather than being about a girlfriend, like most think the song is about, it's actually about Pat Monahan's mother who passed away in the late 90s. The references to food are easter eggs for Monahan's relationship with his mother, them being their favorite foods to share. The entire idea for the song came to Monahan when he woke up with the words "back in the atmosphere" stuck in his head while still grieving his mother. The meaning behind the lyrics is all about how his mother isn't really gone but is among the stars and constellations.

I was going to write a comment about how i always thought that "England is my city" was supposed to be a play on how a lot of rappers represent the city they are from. So kind of like saying "England is to me, what LA is to 2pac" But then i looked up if they had actually given an explanation, and apparently Jake Paul wrote the verse for Nick Compton, who was too shy/insecure to correct it. TLDR: Nick Compton did know that England was not a city, but Jake Paul didn't

Yea I've always thought that some of Train's lyrics were weird and a bit random, and I never liked that soy latte line...but it seems Monahan goes for more mood and rhythmic expression with syllables and rhyme scheme than perfectly coherent narratives in the songs. It also should be stated that their first album was outstanding, self produced and had a few big singles, platinum selling record. Drops of Jupiter went multi platinum and won multiple Grammys. There's no doubt that these cats are very talented and skillful in their compositions...and Pat Monahan is an outstanding vocalist. Tons of people love their music, and some critics hate it...what else is new. But you are right, some of those lyrics are sub par.

I gotta say something about Imagine: People do not realise it but Ono Yoko is fucking ROYALTY. She came from a noble family (mother was a Yasuda clan member, father was of a high samurai descent), she attended Gakushuuin, the schools that imperial family sent their members into, she was Akihito's (today's Japanese Emperor Emeritus) classmate even! Yeah during the war her family wasn't doing too good, but she had connections to the whole Japanese elite and knew everybody. Imagine sounds extra rich from somebody of that station.

Let me lead with, I have no explanation for “freeze dried romance” but I think the point of that verse in Drops of Jupiter is him trying to remind her and make her miss their relationship, the original lyric is “second best latte that you ever had, and me” which I think is like an inside joke between him and the girl. I’m not a fan of train past this song but I actually thought the lyrics in that verse were kinda sweet. Again, except for freeze dried romance, no idea what that’s supposed to mean

Drops of Jupiter was written for the lead singer's recently deceased mother, so I'm assuming those lyrics were about stuff she liked while she was alive, which makes it a little less weird, i guess. So kind of like saying "England is to me, what LA is to 2pac" But then i looked up if they had actually given an explanation, and apparently Jake Paul wrote the verse for Nick Compton, who was too shy/insecure to correct it.
