This video will teach you, in 5 important steps, how to do a perfect crosswind takeoff in the Boeing 737NG.
I will go through all of the different challenges that comes with handling the Boeing 737 during crosswind conditions as well as ways to cope with it. Towards the end of the video I will show you, from inside the cockpit, how to actually do it so pay close attention throughout the video.

After the video you can use the link below to take the quiz and see how well you have understood the video. There is a 75% pass-rate, just like in your coming ATPL exams 😱

Boris V Spider those pods on top of the fuselage near the aft section is where the satellite dishes are. These dishes provide something called kA band and ku band frequency which has the same broadband speed as your 3G and 4G network. They are synonymous with their large hump and can easily be recognisable.

@Mentour Pilot can you plz do a video on what those pods are for on top of the fusalage, i have no idea what they for why they need to be external to the aircraft?

Thank you for perfect explanation Captain. Yesterday because of a crosswind gust, full aileron deflection wasn’t enough to keep wings level although the aircraft was B777 and surfaces were big. Do you have a suggestion for these type of anormal situations?

Nice !! In a piper .. it’s opposite to a airliner .. deflection of aileron into wind is highest at beginning and as we speed up slowly neutralise the aileron

I had to learn Swedish and I still say things funny. I think your accent is wonderful, but when you say thrust you pronounce it "trust" as in jag "litar" på dig. I can't think of any Swedish words that make the 'th" sound as in throw or thrust. Your English is outstanding and your accent is adorable so nothing to worry about, but just FYI. 😎

I've been wondering about the trim wheels (is that what they're called?). (1) Doesn't it bother you that they're always whirling around? (2) Why don't they seem to be synchronized? Aren't they supposed to represent the angle of the horizontal stabilizer? If so, wouldn't the white mark on the pilot and first-officer side be the same?

Hi, i still confuse with your explaination step no 1 about ATM. You said we need additional takeoff thrust when crosswind component more then 10kts. For example if we calculate the lowest temp is 60 deg at 22K, we need additional thrust to compensate the crosswind, do think i need to increase temp to 55 or 50 deg, or i have to change 24K or Max thrust?

Hello. You have a great channel here. Great videos. First off I am not a real pilot but love using a flight simulator, go ahead and laugh. I do have a question about the 737, what if any are the speed restriction for the boeing 737? Is there a speed that is too high that is not a good idea to fly? Just wondering. Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

How come the landing gears dont get "twisted" during a crosswind takeoff? If the plane's path is straight but the plane is skewed then how do the tires/wheels react?

Also you dont have a crosswind like that everyday, this plane doesnt have any problem with this since this method is the only one right method ,but for a c172 it's different

The 737 has an unusually stubby landing gear and extremely low-slung engines. It must be one of the most crappy aircraft that pilots have to deal with in gusty crosswinds. In my career I have had the opportunity to fly a wide array of aircraft in far more difficult conditions than the average airline pilot will ever be expected to cope with. Fortunately for me, they were all turboprops that allow you thrust/drag control that is simply not available on jets. The most difficult were high-wing narrow-stance landing gear versions (DHC-6, Do228, Do328) and the easiest were low-wing wide-stance landing gear versions like e.g. the BAE Jetstream J32 with jet-like approach speeds (140 knots), very responsive controls and tremendous control once you touched the runway (differential braking and instantaneous differential reverse). The transition from flying to taxying was very short and decisive, the best analogy is to say that this bloody thing, for all it's other shortcomings, turned into a "wet rag" once you touched the runway. I was spoiled rotten, compared to your struggle with high inertia and sloppy controls.

Im just wondering... can you (as a captain/pilot) configure or change the response of the spoilers so when theres heavy crosswind you can set the threshold just a tiny bit higher to avoid the drag on the spoilers?

I just did my first cross-wind (winch) TO in a glider... No power-setting to worry about, but still a bit scary. Just as in this video, a LOT of aileron was needed to keep the wings level - and a gliders wings are both long, and near to the ground! Flying is not as easy as it looks!

Hello Captain, i was x-military-pilot of USSR. Was watching some videos of yours, the reason was of that that I do live in Sweden and its exciting to know about Swedish Pilot's life in aviation. Test some V.A. witch call x-Plane 11, addon Zibo mode B738. I never flew in commercial jets class C,D,E in my life. X-Plane gives great opportunity to try it LOL. From my 35 years, Mig fly Boeing 738 is a new field and something doesn't work well like crosswind landing. Here are pressure points, on approach (wind speed 30kt/h crosswind 25 degrees ), x-plane sim B738, seems to me that gives unreal performers- its moves too fast, crab angle too small, and decrab on final touch unrealistic a lot. What is your opinion about XP11 and is there any better PC sim on the market? My Best Regards Captain!

But there is one point i couldnt get; 09:40 While the aircraft is rolling on the runway, shoudn’t the rudder and the nose have turned to the left with a crosswind coming from the right? Hi when I perform a cross wind take off in a simulator, the plane is pulling towards the opposite direction of the wind, which is logically odd. I would like to know that it is a problem with the simulator or I do something wrong. The simulator is Infinite flight on iOS. Thanks

Vor 2 years
Mike V
Mike V

Amir Foad Farshchi it depends on what you mean by opposite direction of the wind. If the wind is from the right of the plane the nose will want to pull to the right, if the wind is from the left with nose will pull left. If that is what your sim is doing then it’s correct. If the wind is from the left and your nose pulls right you might be over doing the correction on the rudder.

I have always assumed that Cross Wind landings are more dangerous and harder to handle than the CW take offs. Is it thrue? And it also look a bit odd when aircrafts stear hard to one side even before taking off or just before landing - How much can the landing gear take when it come to those kind of forces? I assume it is a limit on how much force the landing gear can take? Johan.
