Kratos was a grieving father and widower centuries before he even met Faye. Being a family man has always been apart of his character.

Next God of War, Death trains his daughter to claim Kratos but she falls in love with Atreus instead.

For those who don’t know, Kratos was a warrior of Sparta, and in his time of great need, he called upon Ares to kill his enemies and make him his apprentice. When he went to attack the enemy village, Ares brought Kratos’s wife and daughter there, and accidentally killed them in his rage. Athena then made him wear there ashes as punishment. The gods also promised to stop his nightmares, but they didn’t which is why Kratos is always mad at the gods.

He has one of the saddest backstories ever in games in my opinion

Anyone that makes fun of this are messed up the pain of losing love ones like that can be unimaginable and what he does after his revenge is amazing because he controlled his rage so don’t make fun of this and just know kratos is also a badass

It’s even more sad when you realize he has to live like this… always being reminded of who killed his family, everytime he takes one look at himself.

This trailer had me shook when I first saw it as a kid. You can see his happiness turn into pain in real time. It's such a work of art and I wish more games had live action trailers with this level of thought put into them.

The backstory and story in general of all God Of War games has always intrigued me. The story they tell us amazing, touching, heart wrenching, funny (at points), scary and all in between. Literally one of the best game franchises ever made.

A broken heart is not the end, it's just the beginning of a new kind of hurt.

Man Kratos really went through one of the most depressing shit in fiction I can't even imagine how messed up his mind was after he realized what he did makes you really think about what he was truly going through all of the GOW games even GOW 1 at the end of it he just wants the pain to end he just wants to be free from the nightmares so he makes a deal with Gods and serves them for decades so they can take away the nightmares but the Gods not only do they not take away his nightmares they just straight up tell him that they never made a deal with him to take them away, so Kratos tries to commit suicide but the Gods just said there's an empty throne waiting for him, and when he does what he wants with the power they let him obtain, the Gods just straight up judas him despite the fact that he didn't even want to be the God of war

Seeing this makes me think of the ending to Ragnarok. I'm not sure what I want to see more. A game following Atreus. A game where we See Kratos become a better man. Praised and beloved by all. (I know people see him as a good man in the end of Ragnarok, But I want to see more of him shaking off his past to truly embrace being a God for the people)

Kratos is one of my favorite characters, from the way he speaks to his voice actors entirely. From a person who was angry all the time and killed God's to someone who is Wise and knows what anger truly is and cares for his song, he will always be a good character and they should make a movie on him.

If you think about what hes done all he did. In reality he was very guilty hoping he could do right after losing everything. Even if it meant killing many people who didn’t deserve it. As you see from GOW and Ragnorck you see the ashes slowly coming off. A sigh the curse is fading due to him finally letting go and doing the best he can by doing whats right.
