I love how his face changes to Will when he says in a land where "hurt people hurt more people". People like to make the slap about Jada. But Will's dad was violent towards his mom and through out his life he felt bad for never defending her. That's why he felt the need to defend her that day, thus hurt people hurting more people. I love how layered this song is, with every re-listen I pay more attention to different details. Kendrick is a gift to this generation, speaking up for us when we can't find words.❤

“In a land where hurt people hurt people, fuck calling it culture” This is the deepest line in the song for me. I think what Kendrick is saying here, is that unfortunately, some of the problems that exist within the black community today, are considered “part of the culture” and almost accepted in a way. And that is unfortunate. There is nothing “black” about gangs, broken families, toxic relationships. These are results of generations of traumas that black Americans have faced, and while that should be understood, it should not be accepted as good by us.

Honestly it’s the record labels that will only produce these themes in songs that we hear over and over on the radio. Even here on YouTube. I see random videos of black artists rapping about violence, money & sex to gain views. Unless an artist wants to make it big and go commercial he has to sell the “image” of this toxic culture, even if they not really about that life. Often that’s why most of them leave this Earth because of what they rap about in their songs, thus becoming a target that the record labels then profits from. So collectively, it’s on us to decide what’s really considered music for the culture & what is really healthy for our souls to heal. 🙏🏾🌎🎶🕊️

Vor 8 Monate@OGQuatumStorm +23
Honestly it’s the record labels that will only produce these themes in songs that we hear over and over on the radio. Even here on YouTube. I see random videos of black artists rapping about violence, money & sex to gain views. Unless an artist wants to make it big and go commercial he has to sell the “image” of this toxic culture, even if they not really about that life. Often that’s why most of them leave this Earth because of what they rap about in their songs, thus becoming a target that the record labels then profits from. So collectively, it’s on us to decide what’s really considered music for the culture & what is really healthy for our souls to heal. 🙏🏾🌎🎶🕊️

Didn’t expect Kendrick to rap on a Marvin Gaye sample/instrumental and the video is amazing… the different faces for different characters. Really excited for this upcoming album 🔥🔥🔥
