What a powerfully sad thing it is to go back and hear Kendrick say Nipsey was one of his main motivators in part 1, especially after hearing/seeing him just consciously attempt to embody him just to give Nip a chance at his own last words regarding his life, family and legacy. I think this new album is going to be the spiritual finale to the journey that Section.80 started. It’s honestly mind boggling how he sounded so skilled and so wise beyond his years on that album (and still does when I go back to it) but to hear and see him now, the difference is night and day. We’ve literally witnessed a kid with a whole lot to say about a world that he didn’t really understand spiritually transform into this wise and all-powerful monk who just happens to also be a musical genius. This next chapter with this obviously evolved world view and specifically what appears to be an extremely strong reinforcement of his unique take on the spiritual and the human condition as a whole sounds like it’s going be his most outwardly philosophical and refined offering yet. 5 of these Heart singles spanning over a decade of different points of view and positions in his career and this is definitely the first one where Kendrick genuinely sounds content with himself and specifically his impact, or even lack there of, on the world around him. Long live Kobe and Nipsey, they’re gonna be around a lot longer than most of us, even if not physically.

The Heart 3. Been listening it to for 2 days straight. The transition at 12:25 is PURE ART! Anyone that's ever produced music (I did back in the 90's in Vegas) knows that THIS IS HARD TO DO! That is production. That is two artists knowing how to maintain an octave and engineers know the fade-in/out seamlessly. That ONE part gives me chills because it's literally what music is all about: perfecting a vision and ensuring that those that truly listen to music APPRECIATE that vision. I know many of us listen to lyrics and beats and we're like WOW! But there sound engineers that understand a production is not automatically gonna work as you envision it. Sometimes, you just give up and say, "...that's as good as it's gonna get. It's a wrap." They didn't give up on that part. THAT was clean! THAT was smooth!
Vor 8 Monate

@purple ocean flower No disrespect taken. I was simply making an observation of a blending technique used that was hard to create when we did music back in the 90s. It's kinda like when mechanics talk about how easy it was to work on cars back in the day versus working on the computerized cars now; just a difference in eras that people who've been in both eras realize. That's not about disrespect. You're all good. It's about experience and appreciating what we're hearing.

My nephew got me started on Kdot back in 2012. He is the most prolific rapper I've heard since Tupac in my opinion. This gift that Kendrick chooses to share with us can only be described as ART! Its no wonder he got that Pulitzer Prize.

I hope I get to meet Kendrick some day soon. His gift shielded him from the worst consequences while luck would have him in existence in the first place. Even though I am different from him in many ways, I definitely empathize with his work in a way that feels different from all other hip-hop. Full disclosure: I’m Batman.

@Darrien Colbert if you think in the context of a prolific thinker, meaning intellectually inventive and fruitful; producing many ideas or creating many things. Having more or less than someone else doesnt make them less prolific, but his music makes you think. You can listen 100 times and find something more deeper than the last 99 times you listened. That's what it represents for me.
Vor 8 Monate
Darrien Colbert
Don't mean to be an ass but what is your definition of prolific? Because if we're talking about it in a literal sense (meaning a bountiful output) I'd have to disagree there's a few rappers who I can think of who put out more music, doesn't mean there better than K.dot but just by that definition, I don't think he's the most prolific but if you're trying to say he's one of the best ok that's fair.

Kendrick Lamar is one of the legends in rap where his story arc is out there, videos of him rapping at 16 to this. His Heart Anthology literally gets at the heart of his character. If you didn't know, this song samples Willie Hutch's "Mother's Theme", from the 70s blaxploitation film "The Mack." One of the first rappers to sample it before K. Dot, was Cam'ron. Although Dipset set got obliterated by D-Block in the Verzuz battle, I still can't deny Dipset's impact and contribution to the culture to this day! Cam'ron got a song called "D rugs." The song deep as shits! You gotta listen to it a few times to put the shit together. Its like he sayin' one thing, but the entire scenario means something else entirely!

Vor 8 MonateUberJeep AZ
@purple ocean flower No disrespect taken. I was simply making an observation of a blending technique used that was hard to create when we did music back in the 90s. It's kinda like when mechanics talk about how easy it was to work on cars back in the day versus working on the computerized cars now; just a difference in eras that people who've been in both eras realize. That's not about disrespect. You're all good. It's about experience and appreciating what we're hearing.
Vor 8 MonateUberJeep AZ
@Tre Ztyles Yup. Wakes your soul up a little bit, brotha.

My nephew got me started on Kdot back in 2012. He is the most prolific rapper I've heard since Tupac in my opinion. This gift that Kendrick chooses to share with us can only be described as ART! Its no wonder he got that Pulitzer Prize.
Vor 9 MonateGoddamnManbat
I hope I get to meet Kendrick some day soon. His gift shielded him from the worst consequences while luck would have him in existence in the first place. Even though I am different from him in many ways, I definitely empathize with his work in a way that feels different from all other hip-hop. Full disclosure: I’m Batman.
Vor 8 MonateTunya Starks
@Darrien Colbert if you think in the context of a prolific thinker, meaning intellectually inventive and fruitful; producing many ideas or creating many things. Having more or less than someone else doesnt make them less prolific, but his music makes you think. You can listen 100 times and find something more deeper than the last 99 times you listened. That's what it represents for me.
Vor 8 MonateDarrien Colbert

These are what you call distinction level, high quality, raw depth, upper echelons hip hop art, that is the poetry of rap!

The way Dot bodied The Heart Part 3 was ridiculous. "When the whole world see you as Pac reincarnated..."

even though pt4 introduced me to kendrick(i was 12 in ‘17), pt2 will always have a special place in my heart. The emotions he captures in that song is simply indescribable

Part 2 will always be my favorite. I remember hearing just the music by itself on The Roots album as an interlude, I was like damn, they should’ve rapped on that part! Fast forward, K. Dot used that same interlude and made a classic out of it!
Vor 9 Monateloganthinkshecan
Listening to all parts back to back hits so different. Good shit

Ngl I heard humble with kendrick and just wrote him off as any other average rapper. Holy fuck I couldn't be more wrong. Just listening to the heart parts so far but the timing, delivery, effort etc it's fucking nuts. Definitely need to listen to his albums at some point.
