Just wanna say if you get hit in the nose, even if it’s on accident, and it’s enough to think “it’s broken” BOTH your eyes will be black. As a survivor of DV who had their face smashed in and was left to die in the woods alone, my eyes were black after about 45 minutes. They stayed black (from what I can remember) for around 2 weeks… No. Just no. Being hit in the face “too many times to count” ESPECIALLY with rings involved will 100% leave injuries. Absolutely no makeup will cover it entirely (trust me I tried). She’s a fucking liar and it’s makes me sick. She’s made it that much harder for victims to be believed..she’s made a mockery of domestic violence in general. It’s to the point where I’m almost embarrassed to speak about the past that I’ve survived seeing as I was still doubted previously (even with a conviction and a protection order). IMO she should be criminally charged.

It's the only life they know, and survival in the outside world isn't guaranteed when your spouse has destroyed all your support groups or conditioned you not to seek help, plus they've baby trapped you so even if you do get out there's a good chance that they'll always have to be in your life because of legal stuff with the kids. You left for your kids, but a lot of people STAY for their kids, thinking they're giving them a better chance of survival. Trust me, I see this kind of situation ALL THE TIME. You give yourself too little credit, and I hope you'll realize the incredible feat of bravery you performed later on. And I hope that even though you've made peace with the fact that your dad was abused in his life and that's what led him to becoming an awful human being, he bears full responsibility for abusing you and it was his responsibility as a fully grown adult to break out of that cycle of abuse and unlearn those behaviors. However the question was phrased “how am I so stupid I got involved and stayed with an abusive monster.” This is a perfect time to bring up that no one is harder on the victim than themself. So if you can, please be gentle (and maybe empathic if you can) when it comes to these topics. Some might not be as mentally capable to address these questions like I am and questions should be to educate, not berate 💙 Now to actually answer your question, I was raised to be extremely co dependent when it comes to men. I was raised to believe my entire existence was to please men and the “male gaze”. I started to get extremely uncomfortable at the age of 10, when (in their words) my body “blossomed” MUCH earlier than most and my dad’s friends would take pictures of my chest area to “keep for themselves”. It made me so ashamed of myself that I NEVER told my mom when I got my period (the same year) and she never reached out to tell me what was happening to my body and what hormones were and definitely never cared about how I felt. It also didn’t help that my dad had untreated manic bipolar and would fly off the handle at the drop of a hat. I watched him hit my mom, and he eventually turned his attention to me as I got older (I made sure I took the brunt of the abuse so my little sister didn’t have to experience any of it). Eventually my brother took right after him and it was beat into my head that if you don’t do what a man says, you’ll get hit. It was normal for men to talk to me, touch me, and treat me however They wanted and if I even looked like I was going to stand up for myself I would get hit. The ONE time I stood up to my dad, he had locked me in a bed room and refused to feed me for 3 days…I ended up sneaking out and my friend who had a car took me to a grocery store down the road and bought me one of those deli sandwiches which I ate so fast I almost threw up. Obviously my dad found out and he beat me up, and called the police to take me away to jail. Instead of taking me to juvie (I was still a minor) he took me to a group home which landed me in CPS custody. I’ll spare you the majority of those details, but I had to fight every single day just to exist and the father from the foster family they placed me with was even more sick than my dad’s friends…if you get what I mean. This might not be the same in every state but when I turned 17 and “aged out” I went back home. My reasoning? “If I’m going to get hit every single day it might as well be from the people I’ve known my entire life. I’d rather my dad beat me than a stranger who would do worse than him.” THIS is how warped my mind was at this time. I was just a kid who had no idea how I had survived this long and I was so desperate for any love I could find from anyone. …in comes my ex. For context, he was 26 almost 27 when I met him at 17. At first he provided me with a life I never knew I could have. I felt so cool being 17 with my own home, a car to use, a job, and eventually two kids. He didn’t have to work hard to isolate me since I already had no one, and he knew that. He moved me away from anyone I considered a friend and waited till I had no contact with anyone, including my sister who was my best friend. That’s when his abuse started. The entire time I kept thinking to myself “no, please not again. I’ll do anything for this to be a nightmare I’ll wake up from.” But it wasn’t. I was already so broken that I had no will to fight for my life, I didn’t even know how to honestly. If I’m being completely honest even after being left for dead the ONLY reason I fought back was for my kids. They didn’t do anything to deserve this kind of life and I couldn’t help but think how it was my fault they were suffering. They were scared and it was because I wasn’t strong enough to fight back. Clearly I couldn’t physically defend myself against him so instead I made the best (and scariest) decision of my life and I walked a mile to my neighbor’s house. They called the police and the officers made it there in time before my children were hurt…thank god. It was in the hospital that night when I made the decision to NEVER let a man put their hands on me (without consent) AGAIN. I had enough, and I told myself “if no one is going to help me then I’m going to do it myself, and I’m doing it for my kids.” It was ridiculously hard seeing as I had never done anything without permission before, I had never even had my own bank account and I knew nothing about deposits or loans, or that the water bill is NOT included with electric 😅 but I figured it out. I put myself and my kids into therapy and got treatment for my CPTSD. She helped me realize that I was a single mom long before I escaped, and that my life was EASIER since the only thing that changed was the lack of abuse. I took a few years to focus on just my kids and I, and learned a shit ton about who I am. For example, I like working on cars…no transmission work though (car enthusiasts will understand) 😆 What my therapist and I called it was me dating myself. How the hell could I love someone else and build a foundation with them when I didn’t even know what food I liked, or what my favorite color was. My entire life I was never allowed to figure out who I was, in fact I was shamed for anything that a man didn’t like, even if it was as simple as period cramps. Basically in order to break the cycle I had to actually fall in love with myself. It sounds conceded, but the saying “you can’t pour from an empty cup” runs true. The abuse and neglect I received as a child practically molded me into a perfect candidate for a narcissist/sociopath. I could go a lot further into the reason why I don’t blame my dad since his childhood was also filled with abuse and mental illness. Abusers don’t just create future abusers, they create future victims as well. And unless you are in the correct mindset to reach out, get help, and break the cycle you’re stuck. Whether that means you’re the aggressor or the victim, you’re stuck. Abusers are pretty good at finding potential victims and they know exactly what to do or say to get them hooked and eventually hurt. That’s why advocates for DV victims say the best thing you can do for the victims is to offer support. Yelling at them and making them feel bad for the situation they’re in does nothing but confirm what their abusers said, “no one likes you, you’re a problem for everyone else, no one is going to believe you or support you if you do try to leave”. I know it can be hard but the best thing you can do for someone struggling is to solidify your support for them. Be there for them, help them out, LISTEN to what they have to say, try and build their confidence if you can, and most importantly show them what love actually looks like, you just might be the first person to ever show them. If you read this far, thank you for listening. I tried to answer your question the best I can while answering any potential follow up questions as well. I know this is long but if I’m being honest, there is no simple answer to your question. In order to understand why a victim would put themself through this you have to understand where they came from, what they’ve personally struggled with, and how their abuser was able to manipulate them before the actual physical abuse. I’m so glad you asked though because we need to continue the conversation if we ever want to stop this from happening to anyone else.

Throughout this whole trial, I have never wanted to hug someone as much as I have wanted to hug Johnny. I want to thank him for speaking out, and sharing his story. There are so many men out there that have similar stories, who have been dragged through the mud by women who have said or implied that they were abused. Some men have even been jailed for "abuse" and "domestic violence", unproven.. like when it is one person's word against another. One part of being a feminist and wanting total equality between all people is THIS. She lied, manipulated, and abused him. She used him for her own personal gain, and then threw him away like he was trash. Any man that did that to his wife would be punished accordingly, and no one would bat an eye. This is what feminists want. We want equal punishment for equal crimes, and equal say. Women are no lesser than men, and men are no lesser than women- so why are women given lesser sentences for committing the same crimes? We want men to be able to come out and share their stories, and seek the justice they deserve. There are SO many men out there who have been abused and harmed by women, and are afraid to identify themselves due to backlash. Toxic masculinity has played into this, too. It's been commonly viewed as "immasculating" to be abused, or to share about your abuse. I pray that, by Johnny Depp sharing his story, battered men will feel empowered to share their stories.

It's a very common tactic of trying to bore the jury with constant disruptions so they might miss critical details or forget them once the trail is over. Which can take many months.

What I'd like to know about this is what will be the outcome of this. I'm not talking who's going to win, because it's obviously going to be johnny, but what is the punishment exactly for heard? I don't quite exactly know what a defamation trial is, but it seems like it's just a slap on the wrist scenario. Like I'm sure she will lose her job, be stripped of any roles and be publicly shunned, but no other severe punishment other than that? Real talk, as someone that was abused by his ex-wife, this hits really close to home. It's a decade later, and I finally confronted her about it, and she said it was my fault she did it and that she's never forgiven me because I haven't owned up to that. She is still presenting me as the villain in the scenario because I won't say I deserved to be hit. She said it was also my family's fault because she controlled my phone and social media accounts and read messages where they were telling me to leave her because she was hitting me. They were watching her abusing me and they told me to leave. She said if I loved her I would have cut them out and told them not to say things like that. I say all this, not to say, "I'm a victim, give me sympathy." I say it because this case is forcing me to relive it. It's forcing me to confront it. I feel safe talking about it now because I can see that it's possible to be believed. She said foundation, concealer, and then "bruise kit" (she corrected herself to "theater makeup" real quick) to refer to color correction makeup (blue, green, purple) Those are the steps to create a bruise, not cover one up. To cover up a bruise, you would use color correction first.

Putting one color over its opposite on the color wheel gets you a more muted gray/brown color the more you put on/mix in. I do this when I paint all the time to get various hues. I’ve lived in bad situations before and in those situations I’ve put on concealer that was my skin tone. Not various different colors. 💀That doesn’t “cancel out” any bruise. She was explaining how she made *fake* bruises.

@lazyatbeinglazy games color corrector (the one that actually hides the bruises) has to go under foundation because it literally changes the color of your skin. for example if you are trying to hide redness you would use a green color corrector (because they're on opposite sides of the color wheel and cancel the other out); but there would be a noticeable green tint to your skin before applying foundation (or if its around the eye area, concealer). so if she had even listed concealer last it would have been more believable, however, she said the last thing she would do is color correct which would never be a last step unless, as op stated, she was using a bruise kit to _make_ the bruises.

I think that's the only part of what she said that actually made sense, and was surely her finance team's suggestion, not hers. If Johnny continued to pay it in installments year over year to maximize his rebate for charitable donations, he would 'essentially' be compounding the rebates year over year (obviously more complex than this but still.). In this way, we would essentially be paying less by allowing him to earn more, and potentially even profit by investing the money to be donated while it is tied up. It's a really easy way for him to 'profit' while using "her" money. It's a reasonable assumption for anyone in this situation to ask that they should be the owns that get to reap the benefits of charitable tax breaks, regardless of your character. ...but then actually having the money and not making a donation in a full 13 months. Now, THAT says a lot about her character and intentions.

Now it all makes sense, with the domestic abuse, dog smuggling, and who knows what else, Amber came with the wrong set of lawyers to this trial, that must be why theyre so unprepaired, all their notes are of cuter puppy pictures!

I heard that defamation is really hard to prove but if after all of this she got away scot free, it would be outrageous, it would automatically discredit so many abuse claims. If she doesn't; it's somewhat of a far fetched comparison, but seeing it from Depp's perspective it's basically like we are instantly executing someone accused of murder, even though there is so much evidence to prove the complete opposite. If Amber would have a single ounce of empathy she would just plead guilty and end this in order to actually to help victims of actual abuse.
