in a nutshell...watch video of russian regular troops maybe half a platoon engage chechen milita ..now i dont know what they are saying but there is no leadership even at that level all i see are troops taking pot shots in the general direction of the enemy same for "```russian``" troops` in ukraine...then pop over to US marines or army in that very same situation on patrol getting ambushed and i see ncos directing fire positions even with an LT present organising well trained soldiers to fire and move and then attack i do not fear any country knowing who has MY back.....

Jocko, thanks for posting this brother. I worked with Lt. Johnson's Wife where they were stationed in Okinawa at the time. I met Michael just before he left for this TAD and was truly heartbroken for his family. I can't imagine as I see in your expression as well the overwhelming disbelief in this whole scenario. Semper Fi to all those who have served and gave the ultimate sacrifice.

I have an uncle that went on a deployment and when he came back home he was so depressed wondering how he would function with everyone else. How he could hug his kids knowing he had friends, brothers, die inches from him. My uncle ended up committing suicide after being addicted to pills from trying to drown out the pain. I don’t know what he went through but this shed light on what really happens over there. It helped me understand what he really went through and I thank you for not only your bravery in combat but I also thank you for sharing your story

This thing brought me to tears man. Goosebumps the whole way trough that story. Never known anyone in the army. Never been exposed to war. I'm from Quebec/Canada so soldiers in your surroundings is not rare but it's definitely not common either. I spent my whole teens without a purpose. Not knowing what to do with my life. Going to school just to stay busy and keep my brain working but I felt miserable. I'm a good looking guy so I found comfort with women, still felt fucking miserable and lost. My father is an accomplished construction engineer, rational man, responsible and he inspired respect. My mom was a teacher at University, she was more of a empathetic person, emotional and kind at heart. Both to very different person that brough a very distinct kind of education in the house. I was lucky enought to take traits of personnality from both sides but I also Kinda felt a sort of pressure to perform in life but I had no clue what I wanted to do. I am an athletic guy so working out was second nature for me, I knew I was good at that. I was so lost in my own misery that I couldn't make rational decisions and I kept putting myself down over and over again. Then a good friend of mine that I had not seen for years came back in my life. He spent three years in college to become a cop. He just finished, was in the process to find a job and he looked happy as hell. After spending many days and nights together, he told me I should try cop school, I would be a great fit. I always respected the police, but mever have I ever tought I would like to be one. I was again putting myself down and I couldn't find it in me. That fire that could make me a good cop. He shook me up and told me to try... so I did. I just graduated from police school. Jocko, you've been my best friend trough this whole process. Discovered your podcast my first year at college and you helped me find in me the discipline I was lacking for so long. I got into jiu-jitsu and I am now a blue belt. Listening to the stories of man Like Dakota is just so inspiring. The sheer will to survive, dedication and the discipline to always be ready for anything. I salute you and all other soldiers out there taking risk everyday to protect our way of life. I've been living a good life, I couldn't see it before, but this podcast helped me see the chance I have. Thank you

If you just close your eyes , listen to Jocko read you can really put yourself in the action . how Dakota found his fallen brothers , you’re not human if you didn’t feel pain and sadness . They were Lifeless , and imagining what was going through their minds moments before their last breaths . “Medical supplies scattered “ that part hit me cause amongst an inevitable death , they died trying to save each other from injuries . Rest in Paradise to everyone who died for our country 🇺🇸

Look at Dakota’s face when Jocko reads part about killing Taliban with rock in hand to hand combat. Especially those trained to read faces to know when someone is lying. This wasn’t part of original report, who else witnessed this? There’s holes in other parts. Swenson no doubt was heroic. Dakota is a war hero but if he did embellish it was unnecessary and dishonorable. Those of us who’ve served have met typically E-4s to E-6s that get caught in their own stories and he just screams of that guy. Again, what he did was heroic, regardless.

This was a completely hopeless situation. SGT. Meyers performed above and beyond his pay grade and saved lives. The sad part is that the enemy could have been vaporized with adequate planning and QRF response. The enemy was going to succeed in this fight regardless if coalition forces had to break contact or not. I hope a high school kid thinking about becoming a grunt listens to this story. This is the reality, your chain of command will fail you.

I was deployed in Turkey as a 16t patriot air defense soldier, we always had a 7th special forces unit shadowing us, for most of us we were miserable during monsoon. I would volunteer for k.p. because befriended a group of young kurdish orphans and had to break the rules to sneak them food, then having to bribe the Turkish soldiers with food and squares.

your question may have been rhetorical but lemme take a stab at it. Rules because we’re “law and order” types, right? It’s the uniformed services not only because they wear one, but it’s uniform throughout the branch. Break the rules, break the uniformity. But you’re right. Rules should be the type that win conflicts not tie fighter’s hands behind their backs
