To me, the best part is that Mirabel isn’t ever afraid of Luisa. She shows confusion and concern when Luisa starts freaking out, but Luisa is never treated as a freak or monster. Instead, Mirabel clings to her sister for comfort and protection. I love it

this song has a deep, deep meaning... Luisa's scared to admit she's under pressure because if she does, she thinks the others will think she's weak. Mirabel, in All Of You, helps her with this by saying DIRECTLY TO HER that she's more than just her gift. Luisa also admits she sometimes cries in that same song, and OH MAH GAWSH THIS SONG IS DEEPER THAN THE MARIANA TRENCH

“Under the surface, I think about my purpose, can I somehow preserve this?” “If I could shake the crushing weight of expectation, would that free up some room for joy or simple pleasure. Instead we measure, this growing pressure, keeps growing, keep going, because all we know is pressure.” This hits so damn hard.. I feel like everyone can relate. We always look for external work and validation so that we can feel like we’re worth something in the world. Everyone looks and acts how we are expected to. When we don’t do that, people tell us to do better. They tell us that we aren’t good enough. Society only measures a person by all the made up expectations that are pushed upon us. It’s the reason why most of us live in fear. Always trying to be good enough. Always trying to be worth something. If we live by everyone else’s expectations, we will never be good enough. Never. That’s why we have to be courageous enough to be ourselves. No matter what everyone else thinks.
Vor 17 TageReynaldo Ponce
Maybe having some expectations isn't so bad. It can make us better people, it's the amount of pressure that's put on us, that can make us a diamond but we cannot lie of our doubts
Vor 8 TageFxdedflxwers
I love how they made Luisa strong, but also beautiful, instead of following the “if a woman is strong and masculine, she also is goofy” and they also made her voice beautiful, another thing is they normally give strong characters a dark and dusky skin tone, and the “perfect” characters a lighter skin tone, but they did the opposite! My point is, I just love the character designs for this movie

@Rafael Fannucchi As the one who acted as a second parent when my mom became a Single Mother, I can attest to this. ❤️
Vor 4 MonateRafael Fannucchi
Sure that is the magical side of it. The thing we're meant to relate to is more that of a real life person who has had to grow up and carry burdens before their time. Say a parent couldn't handle things financially so a child has to get a job early on. Or maybe they had to more or less raise their sibling. Or just be plain perfect academically, be the whole family's shoulder etc. That's the kind of ppl she's singing for i reckon.

Yep. Her physical strength/power represents her familial burdens that older siblings tend to have. Even though Isabella is the eldest, she was pushed into different expectations... And just like Luisa, her power represents that too - making everything beautiful with roses and flowers (superficial beauty). At least until her powers grow and it's not just about pretty flowers but the power of growth, and life, and abundance. So many layers to this movie.
Vor MonatDee Is Focused
@mitre she is baring the burden that Mirabel is carrying. She keeps talking about the burden being given because she is the older sister. She is actually the middle child. She is specifically speaking of Mirabel. Whether she meant to or not, Mirabel has been burdening her older sister with her own issues. I think people miss that Mirabel needed to open her eyes to who her family truly are just as much as her Grandmother. Mirabel did a lot of projecting who she thought her family was based on their gifts. In order to save the miracle Mirabel had to see past their abilities to see them. Just like her family had to learn to see past her lack of gift to see who she truly was. Mirabel needed just as much revelation as the rest of her family.
Vor 3 MonateJulia Golberg
Honestly thats kinda my problem with this film. I see what they were trying to show for Luisas and Isabellas characters. They’re both the older siblings and have to be perfect or dependable in their own ways, and flaws aren't tolerated, so they’re both under pressure to upkeep that perfection expected of them, but it seems that the film rushed it without showing any noticeable sign of struggle until the last second, which just makes the characters appear flat. Those arcs could’ve been executed much better had they taken the time to develop these characters a little more, rather than just quickly showing a snapshot of their struggles through a song and calling it a day
Vor 3 MonateMyra Long
Her adjusting mirabel's glasses is such a cute little moment... it's small but shows how much she cares for her sister.
Vor 23 TageJade Yoshida
When she’s losing her power, her voice becomes more feminine. I love this. I relate so much with Luisa
Vor 23 Tagestrawberrysoul forever
The whole thing in this movie shows how detrimental the gifts really are. Superpowers aren't all they're cracked up to be. Luisa here makes it clear that she feels like she's hopeless if she doesn't take and hold everything thrown at her. I'm sure there's a lot of elder siblings who also feel that way. Mirabel is almost lucky that she has no gift - her gift is that basically to look from the outside of the family, which gives her an ability to help in a way those on the inside cannot.
Vor 15 TageCaroline Wong
@had better days Antonio will tell the people why the donkeys keep running away. Throughout our history, we've exploited animals for our own benefits. Why break a horse, shove a bit in her mouth and house her in a tiny stall when she was meant to be running free among a herd of her friends?? Get a car!
Vor 7 Tagestrawberrysoul forever
@had better days Antonio only just got his gift. Alma's already trying to figure out a way for animal communication to benefit the community. Just about everything is about using their gifts to help and if you don't have one, sit there and do nothing. The point here is that you should be valued because you are you, not because you can do something. And Mirabel is not nothing because she has no gift. Julieta actually says that to her at one point, but she doesn't get support from enough people to truly believe it until her abuela believes it too.
Vor 7 Tagehad better days
Isabella felt trapped with being perfect that she never got to know her real self. Dolores felt like she had to keep secrets and did it better by keeping Bruno hidden. Papa has so much anxiety she can't fully control. Camilo somewhat is adultified and like Luisa has to always be there. Julietta works the hardest as we can see she has the most gray hair. Antonio got off easy, but Bruno had it far from it.
Vor 8 TageCaroline Wong
There's a flip side to every strength. There's also a flip side to every weakness
Vor 13 Tagewtflol3657
This song is filled with hidden details and I love it. "I'm as tough as the crust of the earth is." The crust is the WEAKEST layer of the earth. The reason there's donkeys all over this song? Donkeys are beasts of burden, forced to carry the weight others put on them. "Was Hercules ever like: Yo, I don't wanna fight Cerberus?" Accoding to the myth, Hercules didn't actually have to fight Cerberus. He just had to capture him, and he did so by going up to Hades and asking for his help. All those dangers that befall Mirabel in the song? Even though Luisa rescues Mirabel during all of them, there's ALWAYS something that happens next, showing that Luisa feels she can't stop for even a moment.
Vor 6 TageSmart Crackrr
I’m glad you addressed the common misconception that Hercules had to fight Cerberus when in fact he didn’t. He did, however, fight Cerberus’ brother Orthrus, the two-headed dog of Geryon, when taking Geryon’s cattle.

I adore how comfortable this singer is in this vocal range, we don’t hear a lot of deep woman’s voices and it’s so interesting to hear. It reminds me of bo burnham’s vocal performance, while he isn’t doing insane runs and hitting whistle notes, he’s adapted it to fit into his voice and music. Same can be said about the voice actress Edit: so a lot of people are saying that her voice sounds forced… and uhhh I’d just like to specify that that’s LITERALLY Luisa’s entire character??? "Give it to your sister, your sister's older. Give her all the heavy things we can't shoulder, who am if i can't run with the ball?" simply giving us the message that the "older childs" in the families are the people always being relied on everything, as they are old enough to take responsibilities, and so it causes them too much pressure. "What breaks the camel's back? Its pressure" just like the saying "A diamond could also break under too much pressure." no matter how tough they are let's also give them a break😌

Instead, we measure this growing pressure Keeps growing, keep going 'Cause all we know is Pressure like a drip, drip, drip that'll never stop, whoa Pressure that'll tip, tip, tip 'til you just go pop, whoa-oh-oh Give it to your sister, it doesn't hurt And see if she can handle every family burden Watch as she buckles and bends but never breaks No mistakes just Pressure like a grip, grip, grip, and it won't let go, whoa Pressure like a tick, tick, tick 'til it's ready to blow, whoa Give it to your sister and never wonder If the same pressure would've pulled you under Who am I if I don't have what it takes? No cracks, no breaks No mistakes, no pressure

2:33 I love that during this whole part Mirabel really sees past everything and has a connection with her sister. You can see in her face how devastated she is to see her sister under so much weight. But then Luisa breaks into dance and makes it fun again as not to worry Mirabel because this whole time she's been protecting her both physically and emotionally.

"Give it to your sister and never wonder, if the same pressure would've pulled you under." It's ridiculous that 2 lines from a Disney song made me realise how much family responsibility I let my sister handle without a second thought.

This hit me very hard and I loved this song so much.Especially the part where she said "Give it to your sister it dosen't hurt and see if she can handle every family burden."I think it's hard being the strongest one in your family, because everyone will rely on you to take care of heavy things,so you don't want to let them down.I think Luisa is childish because she never got to enjoy her childhood.I'm the oldest sibling in my family so understand very clearly.

Same! I find myself rewatching this movie just to see the character’s animations! Every time I see Felix I get this strong feeling like I’ve actually met that guy before hahah. I swear I’ve been around a guy with those mannerism before, but I think it’s an amalgamation of Latin culture. Even my wife who is Italian reminds me a lot of Pepa!

It's very rarely intentional, but it still puts just as much pressure on the Responsible/dependable/strong ones. The line "Give it to your sister it doesn't hurt her, and see if she can carry every family burden" sums it up perfectly. To the rest of the family "The strong ones" aren't hurting, but a lot of the time we're barely keeping it together, we just don't let it show, because again "I'm pretty sure I'm worthless if I can't be of service". Luisa and Bruno are the most relatable to a lot of older siblings because a lot of us feel like we have to bear it all and take the hits so the rest of the family doesn't have to. We suffer in silence so the rest of the family can be happy. And yes, it's part pressure from everything the family puts on us, and part pressure we put on ourselves

This song makes me feel like I wanna cry so badly... I love it :3 my most faves song in this movie, although the lyric is slightly the opposite of me, but since the song is technically about "Even a strong person has their own burden or fragile in certain ways" I could relate to it...
Vor 23 StundenElectra FabCap
Honestly, Disney should insert sibling relationships in their movies more often. This resonates with a lot of older siblings who always have to be the most responsible for the sake of their family, but at the same time with younger siblings trying to find their place in the world. It's a very strong message for kids and adults at the same time.

The best part about that line and its delivery is that she means even those words as the kindest gift, even through her plea: Not only can she solve the problems, she can spare her family from even having to worry about them. She gives them so much security through that and she is justifiably proud of it ("and I glow cuz I know what my worth is"). She solves the problems AND spares her family the burden of thinking or worrying about it. That's why the line cracks me open every time. I've never had representation for what I do for my family in any media before.

I like how most of the families problems are externalized as their gifts. Luisa has strength and feels the need to shoulder everything because shes the 'strong one'. Throughout the movie, we only see her working or on her way to do so. Isabella has the ability to make plants but only makes flowers, which are pretty and pleasing to people, tying into her need to fufill her role. Like a flower, she's meant to look pretty and please others, regardless of how she feels about her stem being cut. Pepa has weather abilities and has to supress her emotions lest she cause descurtion. Like how some people feel the need to surpress their troubles because they feel like they'd be a burden. Bruno too, as he can see the future. In all depictions of him, he looks worried or sad, as if he's uncomfortable around those he loves. The fact that he is also shunned for his abilities despite clearly trying to heplp others by telling them what kind of fate they might face. Yet his warnings are only seen as causing trouble, very much like how Mirabel feels whenever her help is only seen as bothersome. Unfortunately, the other characters dont get this level of depth with how thier abilites show their personal problems.

@Sam Paige yea my bad I meant the two aunts, tío bruno and two kids per daughter. Basically Camilo and Dolores were unnecessary. Antonio was good that scene where he got his room and his ceremony went well as opposed to her was great.

I remember going to my uncle’s ranch in Colombia. He had a mule and I noticed the ranch hand treat it like gold. Now I get why. Also, this music video is everywhere and loved the trip it took me on, lol.
