Everyone saying the kid will have "trust issues" are forgetting that pretty much every parents lie to their kids all the time about countless different things for a big fraction of their lifetime growing up. It's not a big deal, and such a thing only happens in *extreme* cases. The girl will very much just grow up looking back at this as a "damn my dad tricked me" and only see it as amusing or at most, feel salty. OMG this totally reminds me of when my kids were little, and when you change the clocks back so that it starts to get darker really early, I would change all the clocks in the house, so they that would say 8pm which is bedtime, and I would happily send them off to bed, even though in actuality it was 7pm. Hey moms need a rest too sometimes.

Help her to be energy conscious, I still don't know why we all don't have a pedal/crank generator in our homes when we get kids. With all the energy they have, they'd be able to burn some off, so it can help them focus, as well as chipping off some of the electric bill. "You want your cell or tablet charged?! Plug it to the bike, an get to pedaling." I can't tell you how often my kids will be at 5%, and will plug up their devices. But, instead of walking away so it can fully charge. They'll keep playing on it until it can't keep up with their usage an then get mad cause the screen's gone black.

I'm an introvert with depression an I had a partial stationary bike in my room. No seat, no handles, jus petals an fan portion. I got on it to get my blood flowing an it helped with my depression. Then I got married an my husband tossed it cause it looked tacky (it did) an now I keep to my bed for about 12+ hours a day cause 80% of my day is spent in my room.
