Simple but effective update. A lot of focus on Messages, and with good reason. Texting has become the main communication form most people under 60…and sometimes even older…use and the attention to making that experience better is appreciated. Improved autocorrect? Yes please. Transcripts of audio messages? I like it. Check in? Yet another simple but effective upgrade of what I would argue is the most heavily used app by most of us. Apple knows this, hence the focus on it. And I definitely appreciate it, because I think they made Messages better.

@Brandon Butch I’m sorry Brandon, but what the update is very gimicky. They could have done so much more to refine iOS. What is so practical about stickers and contact posters? They have no real world use until everyone in your contact list is on ios.

I’m pretty excited to finally see interactive widgets! Although, I think it’ll start off limited it’ll grow over time esp w it being open to developers. I’m disappointed we didn’t see any updates to the Dynamic Island (more notifications integrated into it), but I’m holding out hope that it’s one of those changes Apple makes, but just didn’t announce. Super excited about live voicemail and FaceTime voicemail. I’ve been wanting those features for a long time now. The live voicemail is a welcome nostalgic feature because back in the landline voice mailbox days, you were able to do the same thing - pick up the phone while someone is leaving a voicemail if it’s urgent. I also hope pinning any message (and not just links) is another hidden feature added in. Bringing Notes-like features into Messages (italic, bold, underline, checking off lists) would’ve been nice too, but maybe next year. I was also hoping for a completely revamped and macOS-like organized settings app (with each app having accessible settings/preferences just like on Mac). Lastly, I was hoping for a big update to Siri. I really hope they incorporate ChatGPT for a huge leap forward… ugh, maybe next year. I’m also really excited about and happy Apple is continuing to make the user experience more intuitive, seamless, and fun like being able to SharePlay in the car, name drop is dope, check-in is a welcome safety feature that I think most people will use, but didn’t expect to want or need, audio message transcription is another nice feature we didn’t expect but also very welcome and convenient, and standby is probably the feature I heard coming and didn’t think much of, but after watching the keynote I can already see how useful and convenient it can be. More than just a nightstand mode, I can see it being in line with Alexa echo show almost. Well done, 🍎 👏🏾

This has been one of the best days of my life as a Apple fan! I think the iOS 17 update is just enough to make me satisfied. The only thing I didn’t like was the lack of talk about OS stability. Part of me thinks they didn’t mention stability because it would be them admitting ios16 had a bunch of issues.

I’m not too impressed with this. Some features I like. Like the private mode on safari, Siri back to back. I just started using Siri more and that was one thing that annoyed me not being able to request stuff back to back. What I really want is multitasking guess we might get that in like 10 years 🙄. I’m getting the S23 ultra. I don’t hate these updates pretty decent but still lacking the wow factor for me. I would also give the mail stuff cool too and voice mail features. I will download it. They need to do something with shortcuts because it’s lacking the turn idea of automations.

I love the new messages updates looks so cool specially the new menu layout! I pretty much only use the messages app for communication! Also love the new music updates I saw that album artwork moves when you have the now playing menu open that looks pretty cool!!

I actually requested Apple Safari profiles and private browsing mode with Face ID last year. It’s great to see Apple listening to feedback from people.

@wstview Even I don’t have idea how to get Dev account but I just installed apple deceloper app and I just signed in as usual like public beta !! Boom and now in the software update section I can able to see the ios 17 declaration beta 6.29GB and ios 16 dev beta also ios 16 public beta .. but I didn’t hit the download and install, however I didn’t pay for it .. and getting the options to install ios 17 .. not sure if it’s a glitch or this is how it actually works. I think paid dev is provided with many perks like app developing and support -“and so on just give it a try as I did

it’s a nice update and definitely very useful. if i’m being a bit nitpicky i would say that the icons when you hit the + on the keyboard don’t look very apple. it’s kinda giving like a facebook vibe. i don’t mind it too much but i haven’t had a hands on experience to really know if it would bother me

I think you may have misunderstood Contact Poster. You don’t set it up for someone else on your own phone, that’s just the normal Contact Photo. People sets it up for themselves on their own phones and whoever they call will see it on the call. It works like the name and photo/Memoji feature for Messages.

oh okay so you get a popup like "x set a new contact poster. do you want to apply it?" and if you click yes it appears everytime otherwise it doesn't? this is how it works for name and photo

As a pixel owner, my next phone was going to be the P8 but with this update and interactive widget. Might have to make the switch to iPhone eventually after being on android forever

It shows it’s not a big release when these videos are quite small, I love your content and videos. I wish iOS 17 at least had fresh app icons just something to make iOS look new and fresh it’s been 10 years with the same look, and interactive widgets is nice but only play pause for music and not even skip song

For those who are upset about no sideloading, think about it for a second, why would apple introduce the ability to download 3rd party apps in the FIRST version of their new OS? They would have to at least get iOS 17 stable for the standard market to make sure people don’t abuse this feature. Maybe it’ll come in the first few public betas? Maybe until some of the release candidates? It’s going to be enforced because of the EU, and it won’t be limited to them as you can simply buy an EU device from someone who has used and set it up in the EU.

@Mo _Ua6 I really don't see how you can easily fit Split View on even the Plus/Max devices because the notch/Dynamic Island gets in the way and it's already too small of a 50/50 split.

Might try to get the beta because my 13 PM randomly decided it wants to have a very frequent intermittent unresponsive screen, even after force restarting like 8 times. 16.5 is the only thing I can think of that may be the culprit because I don’t drop my phone or anything, it just randomly happened last night and has been happening all day today. I’ve actually never been part of a beta, is it even possible for just anyone to get it? 😂

I’m assuming for iPad they’ll do something like the Google Tablet dock with Homepod in the next few years. Quite surprised why they haven’t done this yet.

I’ve noticed that when you change text size in iOS 17 the text in the battery icon also changes. Also with bold text. When with 100 percent battery text doesn’t fit into the icon it goes 1…

One question regarding the Always On Display during night. Does it need to be wirelessly charged? (I assume not, provided electricity should be enough right?) and does it need electricity to work in the first place, or could it be enabled as a fully independent feature and just for the phone itself?

namedrop is soooo game changing, and airdrop over the internet when getting out of range! one thing i didn't get is contact posters, do you change it for every contact or everyone changes for themselves and then it appears on others' phones when they call?

Thank God for the share AirTag feature! We use tons of them for car keys, shared luggage and more, and having them restricted to one user SUCKS.

I'm most excited for Contact Posters and NameDrop. Two features that no one asked for, but yet we deserve

They didn’t talk about stability much at all. So i hope that iOS 17 fixes what iOS 16 had done, over its entire life cycle.. Hundreds of thousands, maybe even millions, had massive problems. Surprised about the iPhone X which means this could be the last big update for the XR/XS.

Unlikely stability was a focus since the iPhone 8/X were dropped.

I still would like to change the colors in iMessage. I know we love our blue bubbles but if Apple could be more flexible with the color wheel on that that would be great

There are always a few leaked features that get pushed back to the next major release, and this is one of them.

Interactive widgets and standby mode (a real AOD) 2 of the main features that caused instant regret when I switched back to apple. (Thinking they finally got an AOD 😂😭🤦‍♂️)...Well done Apple. Apple users are in for a treat. 👏👏👏

I like most but the night stand mode. If you need good sleep the light will keep you from it. I hope they can add a feature to disable for night time

Night mode tints it red when ambient light is low, and can be combined with Night Shift and True Tone.

Like the play button on the new music widget; but no "next" or "back" or volume scrubber? Beta working fine for me so far; wondering if noise cancellation isn't currently working up to par with airpods pro.

So excited for this! Especially to be able to share my dogs air tag and the always on display for at night.

I think you do need to have a phone with an always-on display like the iPhone 14 to get the nightstand feature to work. I have an iPhone 13 and it's a bit pointless - the display goes off after 30 seconds or so!

Hopefully future updates will include the ability to change the background on messages

Aside from that leak back in December/January, there was nothing more about it so it might be delayed to at least iOS 18.

All functions are great with new iOS 17 beta version, but here is the question what about the apps those are crashing or not. I’m not going to install until get the developer update. Coz it will effect the apps and the mobile battery. 😅

a minor feature you forgot to mention is that they added a dark mode theme for airpods when you’re connecting them

I’m glad that I was able to download iOS 17 for free, without paying the $99. I’m excited to try out these few new features, but was hoping there would be a lot more changes with this software.

Yeah apple aren’t happy to do it, so not something they’ll bring up. Considering apple use privacy and security as a high selling point Side loading puts that at risk so don’t expect them to ever talk about it, you’ll have to wait for contact creators to get their hands on it for any info.

I thought the contact posters were something everybody can set for themselves and then it shows up for other people (kinda like a profile on social networks). I didn't realise you could set them for your contacts yourself.

It works like name/photo sharing, where you can set it for your contacts, then when someone in your contacts changes their Me card, you'll be prompted to replace the name/poster/photo in your contacts with theirs.

Since the music app widget seems underwhelming unless maybe they will add music controls like skip track hopefully now third party apps like widgetpod will be able to work without first opening the app to skip tracks

They've always announced control center changes at WWDC if any and/or included them in the first beta, so it's very unlikely we'll see any change until at least iOS 18.

All those new updates and features are great but I would think twice before upgrading older iphone models with older hardware and tiny ram.

So, in order to share your contact with NameDrop, you just have to tap your devices together to exchange your numbers. However, do we still need to turn on AirDrop (for everyone) settings for 10 minutes, since NameDrop utilizes AirDrop?

iOS 17 is the reason I'm going back to the good old Android. I switched to iPhone 2 years ago. I used iOS 14 (a very stable and fast iOS), iOS 15 (My favorurite one so far) and I am currently using iOS 16 which in my opinion is a disaster, and now iOS 17 is going to be even worse. Locked items should give you the option to only allow the primary FaceID if they’re multiple Faces in your phone

Knowing Apple they’ll announce this as a new feature in iOS 18 or 19

Face ID is only intended to store one face and a variation of it (e.g. with glasses). It's not like Touch ID where you can have more than one saved, because it's never intended for you to be able to store multiple users' biometrics.

If I currently have an iOS 16 Public Beta downloaded and a Public profile in use, but the settings says that I can change the profile to iOS 17 Dev profile and then shows that I can update my phone to iOS 17 Dev beta. So, my question is that if I update it to 17 Dev beta, will it update it at all and is it safe to download? I never paid anything to Apple for dev program.

Developer betas are now free. Profiles are no longer used. It's now exclusively done via the beta update setting.
