You sit at your frequented cafe. Tired eyes catch the glimpse of rain drops starting to fall, tackling against the window frame you've transformed into your momentary companion. An ephemeral, ungraspable sense of melancholy invades your mind, yet one also met with a smile, you don't know what it is but it's toxic nature takes a comforting hold over you, like a goodbye hug meant to accompany a "till next time" but that time appears miles away. Suddenly a rain drop falls on your coffee, now two, you grab your cup to move it away and take a sip to distract your mind but the coffee is salty. You touch your face and find the corner of your smile has met with a seemingly unstoppable stream of tears. Yet they are not sad tears but tears longing for a time past, a time lost. Hours have passed. Oh how good it was, those long lost times of which only the bare bones remain, only the fleeting foundations of a past life, resting in eternal memory as you watch the rain fall.
