I spent a lazy Sunday walking about 30kms around Tokyo a few years back and it is still one of my fondest memories. I had only one set objective but everything else was flexible and it was really a wonderful experience. All inspired by the opening line from "Doesn’t Remind Me" by Audioslave. It was really fun to watch your experiences doing it (with far more local knowledge than I have) and see just how different the experience was but the occasional similarity as well.

@@carlitox4721 Nah, you can follow along on a map, this is 100% walking; about 15-17km depending on his route.

I really like how Tokyo is super walkable! When I was there I was averaging 40k steps per day and was able to explore the majority of the city within a week. Sure some stretches between cities (like the straight road between Shibuya and Roppongi) aren't the most exciting, but you can make it more interesting by adding a few detours to shrines or parks along the way.

Well done boys, you two are the quintessential flâneur ie. a figure who understands the sheer enjoyability of the modern city – the exhilaration, and display, of promenading to see and be seen, which is all part of the urban character. Thank you, a lot of fun.

I enjoyed walking the Yamanote Line over the course of several trips to Tokyo. You could probably do the whole thing in a day if you really hoofed it, but I enjoyed just taking my time and absorbing the various districts and neighborhoods I found myself in. Each station really does have its own unique vibe. My favorite segment was probably between Nippori and Uguisudani stations, where I spent some time getting lost in a giant, maze-like cemetery.

Just a quick note, if you walk next to the train line from Ueno to Akihabara there’s still lots of shops and restaurants so it’s actually pretty interesting.

I am an old Korean lady aged at 67 who went to Japan to study in 1978 ~ . Traveled other regions in Japan many times but Tokyo. Last July to August when stepping on the land, felt something unexplained about Tokyo. I couldn't visit much places to where I had been 44 years ago because the COVID 19. I will definitely revisit some other time. Thanks for this video.

So, I have to say boys, this video came in very helpful during our trip to Japan! We actually went to Ueno and Senso-ji just from what you guys showed and LOVED IT, Let alone it is how we learned about Super Potato!

Glad to see Pete in another video. It was already said but would absolutely love to see this as a series on other cities in Japan. On my first trip to Tokyo (in 2019 for the Rugby World Cup) my partner and I walked from Nippori to Yanaka Ginza and then to Ueno and finally made it to Akihabara to watch the opening game in a Hub Pub 🙄. We were not in shape at all and I could barely walk for the rest of our trip after that. The heat didn't help but safe to say we are going to utilize trains a bit more this time around 😁. Good job Chris for doing this big walk 💪.

I did almost the same thing when I was in Japan in March! I went from Ryogkoku to Akihabara, Asakusa, Tokyo Station, Minato-ku and then ended up at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of modern arts hahaha I loved walking 20km daily in Tokyo, you can get most of your travel on foot!

I was in Japan 2018 and was there for 18 days, managed to clock in 310km walking. But that wasn't all the travelling, trains, buses, etc. Loved it, woke up with stiff legs ( i'm older) but nothing like a good walk to loosen them up.

It feels weird watching your channel after having lived in Japan for a few months as an exchange student. Before, when I watched your channel everything was like a detached feeling of splendor and wonder, but now, I have context. I've been in these places, I understand them, I know where they are and how to get there via train or subway or walking, what the vibes are, and what it's like to really be there. So, if watching your videos before gave me a sense of unknown wonder, now it's like a warm sense of familiarity. Same here. It has been 8 months and I will leave in May but I've walked and travelled all across Japan and have seen a whole lot in Tokyo. Especially the area east of Asakusa around Sumidagawa. Haven't watched the video yet but I doubt they walked along the river there. If anyone is visiting Tokyo, go down to the riverside walkway at around Kuramae and walk your way up to Asakusa in the evening. Not only is it incredibly relaxing to walk along the river in evening, you also get beautiful views of it and Tokyo Skytree before eventually walking back up to Sensoji, which is always nicer to experience when the crowds are gone.

This video definitely fills that void in my heart when I can't travel to Japan yet, thank you Chris 🥹🥹

For those who want to do this without the boring part between Roppongi and Shibuya, you can skip Tokyo Tower and Roppongi, and take a nicer walk from Tokyo Station via the Imperial Palace, Akasaka and Omotesando/Harajuku. Really loved the video :)

This reminds me of an amazing show my roommates and I used to watch called Somewhere Street on NHK. It was clearly low-budget and the dubbing was terrible, but we found it so entertaining. This is a big upgrade, and I hope to see more!

This is a great idea for a video and for a way to take in a lot of Tokyo in an interesting way - though maybe it would be best to split the 15 mile journey up across a few days.

Pete brings a certain fun and innocence, to these videos. Maybe it's his constant upbeat attitude that seems in such contrast to Chris, who plays the serious man, but the combination cannot be denied - it's great fun!

I was in Japan in October, and realized one of my dreams - I walked the entire route of the Yamanote line, Shimbashi to Shimbashi. Took all day, not much time for sight-seeing, but why not?

I think it would have been a much nicer route if after Akiba you had walked through Jimbocho, the old castle area, then towards Roppongi Hills and then either straight to Shibuya or make a short detour via Ebisu. It would have been shorter and I think there would have been more to see.

I'd like to see more walking travel with you and yer boy Pete (and Natsuki!), its nice to experience the city from that angle and live vicariously through y'alls experience.

It's funny how much of the journey reminds me of how it looks here in New York, how Shibuya looks like Times Square, how the walk through Roppongi looks like the alleyways in Brooklyn and the Tokyo Station looks like a location in Manhattan on 14th street or the Midtown station where you get the Amtrack train. I've always wanted to go to Japan, and after seeing all this, I NEED to go there now.

Yeah.. me and my partner went to Sensoji for new year during hatsumode. It took 5 hours to walk nakamise and into the temple, the food stalls were so crowded that it was off limits, yet it was beautiful to see the crowd from above at the end of the walk and also all of the beautiful kimono people wore! I couldn’t do it again though lol my feet hurt.

I've done something similar to this. Not from Asakusa to Shibuya but from Oshiage (Sky tree) -> Asakusa -> Ueno -> Akihabara -> Tokyo Dome. Wasn't too long (only took half a day) but it was beautiful and nice.

Its actually amazing. I basically did this exact walk, by accident when I was there years ago. Its nostalgic to see you walk through familiar streets.
