In a YouTube World filled with “look how easy this is” videos, it’s great to see one that shows “how hard it can be to get it right”.

There’s always something so odly satisfying about watching a mistake being fixed, your humility and positive energy were so such a joy to watch.

As an architect and strong advocate for restoration i really like how you handle the project! Making mistakes is the constant, what makes good makers stand out is fixing them :) In the Deutsches Architektenblatt of this month is a great article of a couple who does structural restorations of old, wooden building - its so remarkable how sturdy this construction method is - because its a hollistic system. Their names are Kiri Westphal and Mats Ciupka, if you want to check out their work. The only further thing that i would love to see is anchors for the beam, so sidewards momentum and vibrations wont make the beam go. I would go with diagonal wooden pins. Since you already employed the expertise of a carpenter - maybe thats a thing already planned. All the best for the next steps!

Laura, I love your channel but very rarely comment. Want to make an exception to say that this was SUCH an excellent video in so many ways. Imo when a female creator makes a public decision that some disagree with, she still gets waaaaay more crud than a dude about it.

The metal angle bracket to the old solution was a great addition, with that I would have felt much better about all the stress on that little tenon . The new solution though is loads better. It says a lot about people when they can acknowledge constructive criticism and use it to learn and improve.

It takes a big person to admit that they made a mistake and then admit it online! I so admire that ability to roll with the punches and in the end make the right choice. I will admit that I LOVE old houses, and truly love the old beams, and "yes" it looks even better now. Can't wait to see what your next project will be! Thanks for sharing!!

I'll never renovate an old house like this, but I enjoy your content very much. No matter what you make or do Laura, it's always worth a watch just to see you working and solving problems.

I am so impressed with your willingness not only to admit your first one wasn’t perfect, but do it publicly and then do something about it. Thank you for your bravery. I’m so happy to see you making progress on your home.

It takes a lot of grit and confidence to publicly admit defeat and redo something. But you knocked it out of the park on round 2 and the best part of the whole experience is that you can rest easier with confidence in your work! It's also great to learn something new to start on the next adventure! Great job

Mad respect! I'm currently remodeling a cabin and fixing mistakes is part of the job and the learning process. SO satisfying to know it's done right!

When I was a little girl, way back in the 1950s, my neighbour said to me "mistakes are merely a small detour in your life". I have made a lot of detours! haha. I love the bright and colourful plants in your garden. It looks so pretty. Your house will be so beautiful when you have it all done.

As one of the naysayers from the original video, I'd like to say good job! It's hard to admit to the need to redo work publicly, and you've earned a lot of respect from me and hopefully others by setting a good example and making sure the job was done properly. Looks far far more sturdy now. Hopefully everything goes more smoothly from here! Will be watching the rest of the videos eagerly.

What a great video, Laura! Ausgezeichnet! Lots of people have already said it, but I’d like to reiterate that you’ve shown such great integrity with this video. Mistakes happen. No-one does everything perfectly. But only the best do what you’ve just done and admit their mistake, correct it, and graciously thank the people who gave the feedback. You’re a gem and an all-star! Keep being awesome!
