I want to see a version of this “plasma sword” with a tungsten rod inside the center of that flame. Basically to give the blade some rigidity to actually cut through things instead of melting while still having the blue look of the fire.

The coolest thing that I think this sword represents is how little there is holding back an imagination these days. Really incredible work with this sword! It would be cool to see what Hacksmith Industries could do with the live-action Optimus Prime's Energon axe and sword.

Using magnetic fields, it's theoretically possible to condense the plasma into a super-hot solid.

@Thedancingbanana we dont have the technology to do that. If we could make everything our minds make up, we would have jetpacks lasting for hours of flight, elec jet engines(actual jet engines of elecricity) and real light sabers, but the tech to actually make it is the problem

@Thedancingbanana I think even if you solved the energy density and heat radiation problems, the magnetic field and thus the blade would still deform when it hits anything solid.

Now this might sound insane but when I get older I'll be replacing my hand to my elbow with a robot one that will have built in tools , a 4000-5000 ( or higher ) degree photon plasma cutter and a built in folding shield.

When our decendants see this, they will think its as easy as making fire with rocks and sticks. But for now, this is as monumental as our ancestors making weapons.

I have an idea. If possible, try to confine the flame to as thin and as long a flame as possible. So the nozzle would have to be a lot smaller for this, but if you can get the flame to be any length you want as well as thin as you can make it. then you can have many of these smaller flames in a row to actually recreate the halo energy sword more realistically.

@churry chimichurry could they taper it from the inside? Like have it wide and circular inside the nozzle but then have it taper to a wider thinner blade?

they use laminar flow with the oxygen and propane that's why they can't make the blade thiner, if they made the blade thiner it would probably be less concentred and will have a bad flow through the enire blade that would lead to future problems like heat problems or even worse bad circulation of the gas, that for sure you don't want that to happen.

That would need custom built nozzles and pipes... I'm sure designing and manufacturing such a complex part for just a one time use prop will not be financially benificial for any company...

Yeah, but then your flame goes apart like an oxy acetylene flame. This setup gives them laminar flow so the flame doesnt spread to the sides.

I'm pretty sure in the lore from what I remember the "energy sword" is actually gas contained in a magnetic field but later in the newer games is pure plasma. If you go to original halo 2 you can hear the gas hiss before the sword became more light saber

Geez, this blade is only missing two things to be a true plasma blade: containment/concentration of the blade's plasma and a portable fuel/power source. It will be amazing and scary if we every manage to do both.

one thing I thought about was since they where using hydrogen if it gets so hot to the point the plasma could theoretically be shaped with a strong enough magnet to look more like the halo energy sword but magnets can be unpredictable on what way the plasma will bend. they would just have to get the correct shape of magnet. but I do like the Amazing ideas yall come up with and make them possible

It’s interesting how you can put your hand right next to the “blade” and you don’t feel too much heat. But at the same time, as soon as it hits something, you land on the surface of the sun. Heat transfer is weird.

In free air most of the heat is directed away from the user. When it hits something the air/gas/plasma current is much more turbulent and get redirected in all direction including back at the user.
