Google uses data and analytics to inform all its people decisions, from choosing benefits options to promotions to hiring. Setty explained Google’s approach starts with looking at the existing research, developing a new hypothesis, and then testing it internally.

I just finished an Honours degree in Psychology and statistics was 50% of the course. Although I first questioned the value of so much maths, by the end I had a good sense of how this could be used to get a more robust measurement of behaviours and how they interrelate. I am really excited to hear that this is being used in HR analytics as the power of these statistical methods to provide nuanced understanding to complex problems is incredible.

Excellent.. Just excellent. Thank you Google for applying real thinking to HR in a way that is leading change. It may take a while but the results and outcomes are compelling. As a former consultant, like Mr. Setty, I applaud his comment to spend more time with academics than consultants. :)
