What if a Passenger was the ONLY one left to land the plane? Could a passenger theoretically do it, without ANY previous knowledge or training?
In todays Special video, I will go through the required steps that will have to be taken in the cockpit in order to set the aircraft up for a safe auto-land. There will be around 20 different individual steps that needs to be taken and none of them can be omitted or done in the wrong order. This all depends on the passenger getting into contact with Air Traffic Control and being reasonably close to a suitable runway.
If you want to download this video and keep in your phone or mobile device, you can do so inside the Mentour Aviation app.
I have also created an Amazon page with Aviation books, material and flight simulator stuff that I think you will enjoy!

I do not think they would tell the person to go to 3000 feet in a 747. Especially on step 2 or 3, their gonna make sure everything is fine and do a slow decent but not to 3000, no room for anything especially if the new pilot turns auto pilot off or something.

Holy crap! That Vertical trim wheel looks dangerous when it's being controlled by autopilot. Also, I didn't see that you engaged the parking brake before turning off the engines. In MSFS it seems to be a crucial step.

I would also include that while taking a deep breath, roll up your sleeves, remove any jewelry. I wear bracelets and mine would surely get hooked over one of those really important control-thingys, then an earring would get hung up in the headset. . . (Making a mental note - on my next flight to wear short sleeves & no jewelry - just in case)

I liked this video and it reminded me of two situations in aviation history, one related to myself and one not. The one that has nothing to do with me was on flight UA 93 between KEWR and KSFO on September 11th 2001. Ziad Jarrah had stabbed pilot Jason Dahl and taken over the cockpit, trying to fly towards the Congress. However, passengers heard about three other collisions of the same morning and tried to take the control of the flight back. This had caused Ziad Jarrah to do so steep moves that the aircraft stalled and fell down exactly at that moment when one other passenger who also had a pilot license was just about to enter the cockpit and take over in order to land the aircraft safely at any nearby airport. This video is actually what that passenger should have done if he had managed to take the flight over from Ziad Jarrah on time. The one that has something to do with me was not a commercial flight, it was a general aviation flight which was about to land on runway 08L of EFRY on aircraft OH-PKT. Shortly after takeoff pilot needed rest and I had because of that taken over the aircraft for a short while. But anyway I let the pilot land the aircraft safely and gave the landing back over to him. Passengers on that flight happened to be students from a computer programming course where I had been as a teacher and they were wondering how a computer programming teacher without pilot's license has such a way to fly the plane as I had. I said that the answer is the Apple MacIntosh version of an ancient Microsoft Flight Simulator...

Im a noob here who doesn’t know much. Should we activate the Parking brake after the plane stopped on the runway? And would it be a good idea to have the APU on and turn on beacon and wing lights? Maybe all of the lights even. Maybe it’s night time or there’s a storm and the ground crew could need help to locate the plane.

I've often wondered why, in todays computer age, that cockpits don't have built in multipurpose computers similar to TELSA you would be able to control multiple systems in a more streamlined way, it would also be far more universal(as virtually everyone uses computers) making this type of scenario more survivable I mean you could literally have a pre programed checklist, going through all the stages you stated, and with voice command technology, ATC could literally configure the aircraft for you the only reason I can see this type of technology not being utilised, is because of terrorism, and the plane being to easy to configure🤷‍♂️

My aviation started with MS simulator 95. Since then I've only played video games. What Autopilot can do is incredible. I assumed it was set a heading and keep that. Videos like this help point out the complex things to keep a giant piece of metal in the air. Pilots have much better focus than I could!

The one and only time I have had a flying lesson (18th birthday) the instructor remarked how a lot of younger people know what a lot of the dials mean from video games and that it was useful as an initial starting point sometimes. Not suggesting for a minute that you'd be able to instantly take over, but that an instructor said that was interesting I think.

Years ago, when we had flight engineers, there was a simulator exercise where both pilots collapsed. It was amazing that most Flt Engineers, although they knew all the systems and controls backwards, and had monitored the procedure countless times, struggled to autoland the A/C. Sheer pressure.

It would be an interesting experiment to see if could actually verbally instruct, in a simulator of course, a regular person to land a 737. Also, if the 737 can essentially land itself, why isn't that mode used all the time and pilots simply monitor the approach? Love your channel, truly great content,

auto land is used in most , but pilots prefer to land the aircraft manually to get experience.also in high wind situations pilots can do much smoother landings than auto pilot. The reason to get the practice landing is because flying it is a perishable skill and sometime you have to land on airports that dont have ILS which is required for the autopilot to land. Why dont all the airports have ILS? Because its expensive to instal and maintain.

Actually it should be easy if all systems work normally. And there are minor differences from aircraft to aircraft that are still easy to cover. I think a 2 day course and 20 times in the simulator and I will be OK to do this. But If I only know how to transmit on the currently selected frequency, I think I can still be OK: 1. Contact anyone that is listening. 2. Ask them how to set things for an emergency landing and they should be able to help me set the frequencies and request landing settings help. But only If I have enough time for all that.

Very good guidance on what to do if faced with this situation which could rapidly become a reality, with some airlines now insisting & illegally threatening their pilots with dismissal unless they take these Covid jabs. I have already heard of one pilot from Delta Airlines who died whist in flight due to taking this covert blood poisoning cocktail of undisclosed nasty ingredients. I've flown model aircraft & the theory & basic controls for a full size one are no different, but the array of digital controls found on these things have a 'just a few more options' than a 6 channel radio control transmitter!. It is my opinion that it should be law that all airliner pilots have to obtain a glider pilots license, before going on to pilot powered aircraft, especially airliners carrying hundreds of passengers!. Just how many crashes have been caused if/when the engines fail, & such pilots can no longer control them, because they do not posses the necessary skills or knowledge to control an aircraft when engine power is lost. I happen to be a glider pilot as well as a model aircraft enthusiast. This is a fantastic most informative video here, thanks for sharing this valuable & most interesting information :) .
