I like how he talked about using new measurement allowing for scientific discovery that leads to better measurement. When you work with machining or woodworking (relatively old and well known things that regular people can interact with), you know that step one of making something flat is to have something flat. We've bassically spent thousands of years developing and refining the tools that allow us to precicely construct the world around us, and that's fascinating.

Man, we have a basic metrology in school as a subject, and, I kinda understand that this is about a holy fkin big precision, but like, we are on a high school and our teacher let us write 15 times a test until all got grade 1 ( not a single mistake in a hundreds of micrometers...) or he ordered us to measure reliability of the Mitutoyo caliper with Johanson's measures, and even though the result was, "unexpected" 100% accuracy of like 30 measurements, we still had to do it with all the procedure. Are the metrology-people only one that much stubborn? 😆
Vor 5 MonatesirBrouwer +1
@KEX CZ in a way it is very clean way of science. It's a way to make sure all variables are taken care of. The next level would be to also have other students do the same test at another location/time and know if the results are the same. this are not only metrology-people but also other physics based super nerds. (I can't find another name more fitting)
Vor 5 MonateKEX CZ
@sirBrouwer I know, its just that we all felt like its too extreme 😅. Sure, In a national or international science lab, it makes sense, but like for us, students learning the basics, I think that few examples are enough, not to say that we plan just 3 of 28 to continue an university studies, from which I think none will choose metrology as their final branch 😅.
Vor 5 MonatesirBrouwer +1
@KEX CZ o for your level yes it is a bit much. on the other hand you would have a advantage on others if you would like to do anything with science.

Vor 5 MonateJesus Saves!
Jesus Christ is the propitiation for the whole world's sins. They that believeth and are baptized (with the Holy Spirit) shall be saved; but they that believeth not shall be damned. Those led by the Holy Spirit do not abide in wickedness. *God is ONE manifesting himself as THREE;* the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit! Bless him! *For these three are one.* As I am led by the Holy Spirit, nothing I state is a lie, but the truth of God. Anyone who tells you differently is misinformed or a liar. They do not know God, nor led by him. Anyone who *claims* to be a Christian and is against what I am doing, and where I am doing it; the Holy Spirit does not dwell within them, they lack understanding. They know not God, read his word, and their religion is in vain. Do not hear them, they will mislead you, the lost cannot guide the lost.
Vor 5 MonateJesus Saves!
Another truth many have been deceived of: When you trust in God and cast your cares (worries, anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts) upon him, they will be NO MORE! Know that there is power in the name Jesus Christ! His name casts out demons and heals! The world is wicked, evil, and of the devil. I too, was a wicked sinner of the world before I opened my heart to God. I am living proof of God's work and fruitfulness! He is an active God who hears the prayers of his! God's children are set apart (holy) and righteous. The devil is a liar that comes to steal, to kill, and to destroy; that includes your relationship with God. Open your heart to God, repent of your sins (he will forgive you), and let him direct your path. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands and purify your heart, lest you walk with the devil and follow him to hell.

I can see how he loves to explain this technology! Nice content

Highly enjoy these random labs and experiments that hardly anyone covers. Millions of view just so the amount of curious people! Keep up the hard work!

Well done to Derek for just silently letting him explain everything. Something which too few people are willing/able to do

I mean it depends on who you're talking to. Destin from SmarterEveryDay is fantastic at engaging his guests so they can elaborate on the topic, clarify stuff that maybe isn't so clear or simplify so the average viewer can be engaged. But in this case Derek can just let Rich go because he's very passionate and an excellent communicator.

I'd love to see a video showing the chronology of it. It's so mind boggling humans are able to measure things so accurately.

You don’t often meet people, let alone scientists, who are this happy. As someone who works with doctoral scientists every day, Dr Shaw is a great example of picking a felid of study that makes you happy

This is very interesting. I couldn’t help but thinking what would happen if they accidentally dropped that smallest little one, it would be lost forever unless they saw exactly where it fell and got lucky lol

I absolutely love when people are passionate and knowledgeable at their work.

I saw Cody's lab measure a lasers force with some really primitive equipment. It kind of worked but was not easy because of air currents.

I love how obviously enthusiastic this guy is about what most people would consider to be a completely esoteric science, little knowing how critically it effects absolutely everything in their lives.
