Sir Ken Robinson outlines 3 principles crucial for the human mind to flourish -- and how current education culture works against them. In a funny, stirring talk he tells us how to get out of the educational "death valley" we now face, and how to nurture our youngest generations with a climate of possibility.
TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes (or less). "One of the effects of current culture is to deprofessionalize teachers" "There is no system or school in the world than its teachers" "Education is about learning. If there is no learning going on, there is no education going on. Many people discuss education, but not about learning" Sir Ken Robinson had too much common sense when it came to education and that is what we need today in our education leaders. R.I.P. Sir Ken Robinson.

The thing is with learning is that we treat it a something that can be grasped directly. Surely, if you repeat and test enough, children will retain something. But they retain because of the anxiety that comes with not being good enough - otherwise, why would they do it? I've been scared of bad grades and being one of the "disciplined kids" for so long that I would have gripping anxiety over some overdue homework, or being called out on my grammar in english class. The fact that it took an entire quarantine to realize that life is more than living up to someone's expectations and that learning stems from curiosity instead of trying to meet a pre-set standard truly does say something about the system.

The problem with most schools are they are goal-oriented rather than the system itself. Perhaps, schools just really have to focus on the inputs and its systems and the result will take care of itself. Rather than "if we want smart students, the system should be like this." they should change it to "if we have this system, then the students are this" Jus' sayin'.

Wow, this was 2013, my second (out of 4) years that I tried my very best to teach, before realizing that the dominance of standardized testing makes the job not only incredibly hard, but literally impossible. Seven years later, from what I see my kid endure and still-teaching friends tell me, it has only gotten worse. The thing is, EVERY.SINGLE.TEACHER. knows what he's saying is true, and so do most principals and other administrators who dictate what teachers do.....so why don't they all rise up and refuse to keep doing it? Because the dominance of corporate (e.g. Pearson) bribery of officials at the Federal level makes rising up not only incredibly hard, but literally impossible. The horror show that education has become cannot be protested away, only voted away, and that means paying attention to who is running for leadership, to whether or not they accept corporate donations, and voting accordingly.

There is one right way back home, only one Name to get saved- Jesus. He is the real (Word of) God, there is only one Spirit of the everlasting love- it is Christ, who loves unconditionally . Everybody can meet Him and understand, how He really is. He tells the truth directly to everyone, who is searching for Him from the bottom of the heart. Jesus Christ is so much different than they wrote and talk about Him in this world. He is so much better than the people think. There is no other God's Name, no other Spirit, nobody who can tell the truth about Him- I mean everyone who hasn' t met Him or doesn't hear His voice. When somebody talks about things, which were written, he becomes a witness of a scripture, not of Jesus Christ. This world is not His Kingdom, that's why it is full of lies, which the people called "truth". Call His holy Name, He always answers when we ask honest and all we want is Him and His truth.. If you belive in Jesus Chris, let somebody babtise you in His Name... Ask honest and let the Holy Spirit fill you and you can listen to the Word of GOD in your heart. . GOD will let you know that you are saved and born again. And then..... Will you be searching for Him somewhere else or by someone else, when He will live inside of you?

In order to have chances in life, you need to have money. In order to have money, you need to have a good job. In order to have a good job, you need to have a good degree. And in order to have a good degree, we need to have good grades. And in order to have good grades, we need good memory because we actually need to remember what we are being taught, and it's really not that much about IQ. And you also need the motivation to get good grades and in order to get motivation, you need to be interested in what you are learning. So in conclusion in order to be successful, you need to have a good memory and there are certain things you gotta be interested in. And that doesn't even support the basic rights of humans. The school system needs a change now!

Wow! What a great video and what an intelligent person. As someone who’s attended Public schools my entire life, I can say it did a number on my confidence. Thankfully I’m almost done with school entirely. Growing up, I was one of those kids who learned from doing rather than listening which made it so hard to sit still. As I got older Tests came and went and I struggled to get Cs. I have failed more tests than I can count and was used to my tests coming back in a sea of red ink. It got so bad that as a 12 year old I flat out stopped caring. Thankfully I had a supportive family who noticed and helped me get back on my feet but the damage was done. I managed to get through high school with decent grades but based on my early experience with failure bc of tests and grades I never put my best to anything again. I’m now finishing up with college and I can say I don’t think I ever fully recovered from the ptsd of 7th grade. Never have I felt so dumb in my life. At present I give up so easily because I think I’ll fail anyway. In any other area I’m a positive person and excel with ease. Whether socially or athletically but when ever I try to learn something new it’s almost like I’m a different person entirely. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk lol
