Why do seemingly intelligent people procrastinate? Are there really hidden patterns and belief systems within us that conspire against our best intentions? In this talk, human behaviour expert, Peter Sage, exposes some of the hidden reasons and unconscious patterns that cause us to self-sabotage and explains what we can do to change them.

@Joh I'm not even sure it's true. With good mentoring or coaching, people can do hugely better than their own opinion. Many great creators had terrible self-esteem but still created amazing stuff. @JS What I think this means is that if we don't think we deserve love and a person is giving us love, we won't know how to receive it. We will think they are lying and paint them as an enemy, and just sabotage things.

That's wassup. One thing he mentions that I did 'preach' to my young nieces is regarding the importance of your peers, may be even more important than family bc at that age, that's who you'll listen to and emulate, not family. So I always told girls their circle is very important. Be discerning, make sure they have goals, make sure they are smarter than or at least as intelligent as you, make sure they're boutitboutit, trying to be and have something in life. Good for you young lady. Hope you get to have peers who lift you up and inspire your greatest self. At my age, it's an entirety different conversation unless I hand over big funds for a good life-coach cause I'm probably not making too many new friends. So pick your crew wisely, even if it gets narrowed down to one good friend ...cause they are harder to gain as you get older.

These words fit me so well! I grew up without my dad, (he passed away) so I've always looked for a mentor and the lack of this, made me automatically choose my brother as one. I had sleep paralysis once in my whole life and I was asleep with bedroom light off and bedroom door slightly open.. I woke up on my back and something heavy was on my chest, my both arms was spread a part, both my legs together and I see a shadow figure standing there facing my direction and it casually walked towards the door so I tried to ask it put light on many times but I was struggling to say it coz something on my chest restricting me from talking and shouting for help.. it ignored me and walked out of the room and at this point it kinda felt less weight on my chest so I managed to alarm my mum who was in the next room to mine and mum said You Ok Lee then I was released and I jumped out of bed and ran downstairs I been on antidepressants (citalipram 30mg) and I took 22 of em at once some years ago and I did if for help

This was incredibly insightful to listen to. Thank you for sharing these wise words and great quotes! I think most people live a life of mediocrity because they don't know how to rise above the opinion of themselves and feel trapped by their negative thoughts/feelings. They operate as if they were sitting in the passenger seat of their own life instead of the driver seat because they don't learn how to control their emotions so their emotions eventually begin to control them. Mastering your emotions is extremely difficult. It's a journey and it is something that takes a lot of work.

@Daniel In all truth, I believe it is all about your own experience and how you decide it makes sense in your life. Although you have these thoughts, making a conscious effort is to be self-aware. Being conscious of your own self may come from a repetition of instances that may have happened in your life and it is up to you to see the things that were once unconscious to you and make them conscious by addressing them as something you need to work on or to not make any effort and continue to be that same person. There will be quotes that aren't tailored to everyone's life, but it is how you relate or perceive it to your own life. Ask yourself are you seeking growth or remaining the same person. We all have flaws so what are you trying to improve about yourself.

@Brittany K. Not long after commenting the channel restricted me from commenting any further, I had to jump through technological loopholes to respond to this. Truly what could be more privileged than someone choosing to silence voices that don't agree with them?

I was thinking of some of my college experiences and remembered former instructors using TED videos to help us understand what we were working on. My conscience told me to watch TED videos to hear what’s new or real. Wtbs, I’m so glad I did tonight. Makes me do more soul searching and thinking. They also gave me some solutions to my problems. I’m definitely going to have my older children watch this and more.

11:13 - Law of Conformity 17:05 - By mastering our sense of self we are able to walk into a room where everything is descending into chaos and retain our Center. When everything is breaking down around us with the eye of the storm it's like move I'll handle it.

I see a lot of so called life coaches doing talks, and it's all about them. Peter delivers genuine insight in this talk that is about me or us, and ways to not just cope but to find the best us.

tips mentioned in the video 1. Stop putting wrong things in. 2. Start putting positive things in. 3. Switch off media , take control of where ur focus or energy goes. 4. Gandhi - " be the change you wish to see in the world " 5. Work on yourself - be ur own master , take active control of ur inner compass n point it in the right direction..

Such a powerful lesson. If you are driven you will find a way to succeed regardless of the resources. So true about the law of conformity! I was trying to be successful and was constantly dragged down by toxic family members. Distancing yourself from these negative people regardless of hard it is has brought massive shifts to my success!

Perfect timing in my life to stumble upon this one. Guy is spot on and the audience was silent which to me means they were all uncomfortable because of the truth he was speaking.

Love this, ' start taking charge of where you point your flashlight". Love your family, choose your friends. Get help ripping out the unhelpful habits...time management isn't about time. Love it! Work on yourself, get help ;-)

It’s worth 18ms to listen to and fully sinking into the world of my own life! It’s relatable to everyone. I highly recommended this talk for those who haven’t watched it. And the line which is deeply rooted in my mind thought out the talk is “if you don’t become the star of the movie of your life, you’ll be an extra in somebody else’s”. 📝📚
