My school literally gave us 1 hour and 45 minutes for lunch. Everyone would just sit and talk for an hour. But there was this one table that made their own lunch and even prepared the entire table by cleaning it. It was insane.
I remember my grandma and my parents packing me lunch it was so big that i had to carry a seperate bag for it, When the teachers try to put me in a feeding program i refused but they insisted i sit in one of the tables, When it was time to eat i put the bag in the table and slowly place the lunchboxes it was like a fiesta, The teachers and students could only watch as i place down the lunchboxes one of them commented "Did we hire a catering service?".
Reminds me of the times we would have a barbecue over the weekends, and my mom would pack ribs and stuff for my lunch. Good times.
"why did you not eat all of your food?"
I swear this is so damn accurate. In school my parents packed a full course meal for me and even put a waffle maker with waffles in there so I could make them if I wanted to.
The feasts my mom would pack me during field trips made all my classmates jealous. And I've carried this through adulthood. We once went on a pretty long hike and when it was time to have lunch, while everyone else pulled out trail mix and hard boiled eggs and like pb&j sammies, I made myself like a turkey-syle dagwood sandwich will all the fixins with three different sides and when they looked at me in disbelief, I'm like WHAT, I'm hungry.
As a proper Asian child, this is very true we get so much for packed lunches especially if it was made by grandma.
I remember the dark time when i only had rice in my lunch box because my grandmother forgot to put in the chicken stew. I was so desperate to partner something with my rice that i asked for my friend's cheese popcorn. It tasted okay.
As a kid, my school lunch consisted of Filipino food, iced water in my pink thermos with a screw-on cup a fruit cup, and breadsticks (if I had spaghetti). Because I was the only one in my class who was in an Asian household, I didn't understand the excitement and curiosity my elementary teachers and classmates had because my lunches were my normal. When I was in middle school, I had Asian classmates who brought similar containers and amazing food. As we started making requests (we never shared food on the spot), I finally got why the sandwich-wielding or lunch-ordering students stared at us 😂
My dad would always pack me an apple for lunch. And I would always give it away to a weird kid in our class. 😂
I had a friend in college who was 3/4 Chinese and 1/4 Vietnamese, and her grandmother made her lunch every day. Her 3 layer bento box smelled amazing! 🤤 I loved sitting next to her with my cold store bought sushi, bc the smell alone made my food taste better. 😂
Everyone talking about how "this is so accurate my parents gave me huge lunches" and here I am vibing with the other guy because 99% of my packed lunches were salami sandwiches
That bag is proof that Steven’s dad existed before physics was invented.
This also applies to the office . Where all my fellow colleagues come with their plain old sandwiches with cheese ( like how in hell can you eat this every day), I would come with some leftovers from the day before and I would always get the strangest looks.
This is wholesome. I expected a different take. Kids teasing you for food that they are unfamiliar with. Different flavors and smells, embarrassed to open your lunch in front of friends. My wife told me stories of being humiliated at school due to being the only Asian there and begging her parents for a more normal lunch. Hopefully we continue to progress and be more accepting. This is so great :)
I am an Asian person but I have barely anything in my lunchbox
“WE HAVE 15 MINUTES FOR LUNCH!”
This is true. Went to school and for lunch I had a whole restaurant. Had to share with the entire table💀
I actually done this in highschool: I prepare the fired rice or noodle, someone prepares vegs, someone prepares meat, someone brings soup, and we share at lunch. Every lunch was like a banquet to us, it was just amazing.
