This is really a historic moment. It shows us that the traditions of respect, familial relations and human spirit cannot be overshadowed by a materialistic world. Mourners are focused as they were forced to forget about their mobile phones. A very realistically human moment, indeed.

@Michael HaydenYes. George VI’s grandchildren would’ve been too young (just Charles and Anne) and while Edward VII and George V had some older grandchildren, they were all still children, I think most of them younger than James here.

Just to clarify, in 1936 King George V four sons mounted a guard of honour. When the Queen Mother died her four grandsons, Charles, Andrew, Edward and David mounted a guard. But again the women were ignored. Princess Anne put her foot down and insisted on marching behind the coffin. The point I was trying to make was that there was no distinction for Elizabeth. Anne joined her brothers and quite correctly all eight grandchildren, male and female were allowed to honour their grandmother

While you can see them each hurting in different ways, this was still an extremely beautiful thing they all did, and the fact that they all decided to do it together as a family is awesome and heartwarming

I liked that even though only one of those folks has a chance at being crowned, mourners bowed/curtsied to all.

Must have been so difficult for them. We get to mourn in private when we lose a loved one but the Royals have the world watching them.

Despite what modern day society wants us to believe, tradition really is important. This was beautiful, and moving. May the queen Rest In Peace.

A very moving moment.....The hardest part of her funeral for me to watch was when I saw the late queens horse and dogs at her funeral, and when the queens crown was taken off her coffin, I couldn't stop crying.

Same for me - when they took the crown off the coffin, I almost felt like they were stealing from her. I know that sounds daft but it had been hers for so long. Also, did anyone else feel like things happened a little bit too quickly ? I know it had been practiced for years but the Royal Family barely had time to process their emotions and were all over the country. Given the age of the family members, I felt that was quite dangerous and quite traumatic - someone could have had a heart attack or been seriously affected by the pace and speed (having to meet all those people and travel huge distances when their Mother had only just died).

I've seen many people throughout the years who didn't quite understand the rules that came along with being in her presence and I've also seen others who did know better but instead chose (for whatever reasons) to not abide by the protocol and never, not once, did she publicly scold or admonish any of them! She wasn’t just their queen. She was their beloved grandmother. In my experience, life isn’t the same when you lose the matriarch of your family. My great-grandmother and her daughter, my nana, died and we feel their deaths keenly during holidays. The two empty chairs they once sat in just reminds us of what’s missing. It does get better, just not quite yet.

When we talk about the queen, it often escapes us that she was also a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be dearly missed by us all and perhaps heart-wrenchingly by those closest to her. RIP Queen Elizabeth II.

She was also a daughter, a sister, an aunt, and during WWII, she was a trained mechanic and ‘first responder.’ But all due respect, she won’t be missed ‘by us all,’ there are those who could care less.

This was so moving. The grandkids were her pride and joy. It’s sad to think just 3 months earlier they were all celebrating her at the 6:08 Jubilee enjoying each other’s company along with their kids. With the exception of Harry of course.

I never noticed before how equal the siblings are: 1 set of brothers, 1 set of sisters, 1 set of brother and sisters with the brother being older and another with the sister being older.

I was so proud of Prince Edward's youngest child, Viscount Severn. He and his older sister Lady Louise didn't put a foot wrong, and stole the show for me during the vigil. P.S. Prince William was very handsome and extremely dignified leading the procession. Very proud of Diana's oldest son. I have faith that he will be a Great King one day.

Funerals are one of the hardest experiences in life. The Queen’s grandchildren acquitted themselves so well especially Viscount Severn at the age of 15. Both Prince William and Prince Harry looked magnificent in their uniforms and the ladies were very smartly dressed. They all carried themselves with dignity and poise. Such a beautiful but sad tribute. One can almost feel their pain. 💔❤️‍🩹❤️💜

I was wreck when my grandpa passed away but I grieved in private. I couldn’t imagine how hard it not to break down sobbing here. Even though 4 month ago it still so hard to watch RIP Queen Elizabeth

It was most admirable that, this time around, the grandchildren got their moment to show their respect. (Last time the sovereign died, the grandchildren were barely more than infants.) It also befits our times that the women were included, and the younger grandchildren, who, by now, are old enough to take part in public observances, happy or sad, particularly one so personal. I was pleased to see the Earl and Countess of Wessex there to support their children. I hope that the family and all those who have queued seemingly endless hours feel they have had their moment to feel close to the Queen one last time. Consider: she had virtually no power. She didn't sing. She didn't act. She didn't play a sport for the nation. She didn't write popular books. She didn't invent anything. She wasn't particularly charismatic in public, except for that incredible smile. Though there are those who dismiss the need or desire for a hereditary head of state, it is precisely because she had no power that she was able to affect so many people's lives for so long simply by being there, while celebrities of all types and stripes came and went, by not imposing herself on the national consciousness except in times of crisis, when her calm, steady and unifying voice, unlike that of any politician in our polarized world, was needed.

All due respect, when she was still a princess, during WWII, she took the training courses with other women her age to become a mechanic and what would now be called ‘first responder.’ There’s filmed footage of her, taking her final mechanic’s exam in front of her parents.

The removal of the instruments of state, the piper playing the lament and the lowering of the coffin absolutely broke me. It felt all too real that Her Majesty actually is gone...I don't know how long it'll take to actually process that but it'll definitely be quite a long time. It truly is the end of a magnificent, historical era the likes of which will never ever be seen again. HMTQ bridged the gap between the Monarchs of the past and those of these modern days, she represents a transition in time that cannot be duplicated. 70 years she faithfully and dutifully served her people and the Commonwealth all while asking for no thanks in return. The end of the Elizabethan Era, Elizabeth The Great...a momentous moment in history. Thank you Ma'am for everything and Rest in Peace Your Majesty, in the arms of Christ Jesus who I am certain welcomed you at the Pearly Gates, that beaming smile on your face..."well done, thy good and faithful servant."

Looking at this again a few months down the line I’m so impressed with these young people. My overriding thought however, is to look at Harry and to think how badly he has messed up his life.

What an astonishing view. The Princes Vigil, as it is called, is usually performed by the children of the late sovereign (which was done already the other day by the King and his siblings). Today is very historic and significant that Her Late Majesty's grandchildren were here to offer a moment of silence for their Grannie. Family and tradition, private mourning and public duty rolled in 15 minutes. Historic and heartbreaking 😭💔

How hard this must be for these people to mourn this way..having to put on an act for the sake of rituals, which I can understand. But imagine how they feel inside ,, very strong of them to not cry their eyeballs out, like I did when my grandpa died 😢
