Grandpa was taught racism, then slowly learned the truth that people are people.
That's why I'm never mad at old racist ppl. Cause it's mostly their culture. The way they have been raised.
@Ha !O i’m still mad lol it can be unlearned
"oh don't worry, we fixed him though" nice. if only more people would be willing to learn like he did
if one of the leaders of the kkk can change. everyone can. it just takes willingness sadly.
He is a good grandson, I love this story
“Is that where you guys bonded?” 😂😂😂
CIA and racism like PB&J
@labneh yea, because WE’RE the ones who said it. It wasn’t a quote from another individual, at all. 😒
@Central Intelligence Agency bros larping as the CIA 💀
What I like about this story is that the Grandfather probably wasn’t super racist, because he tolerated his grandsons friends. When I was growing up I was around real racists. My best school friend wasn't even allowed to talk to me on the phone.
Same. I was NEVER invited over to some friends houses, but they were always at mine and there were some that I couldn't go in their houses.
I think there’s a lot of ways to be racist and different degrees of racism. Saying only the worst racists are "real racists" makes it seem like the other forms lf racism arent racism
@Ben LeI mean real racist has a really good image on how bad the racism was
as a black person i feel misunderstood everyday, mfs be looking at me like i’m evil or sum .
I’m really sorry you have to experience that. I’m also sorry for the ignorance of people and the lack of empathy, it’s crazy
I'm sorry you have to go through that. People aren't evil by what they look like they're evil by what's underneath.
Own your space, you have every right to be You irrespective of the gaze of society and others.
And I'm sorry for that. I look suspiciously at every man, black or white but I do think that contributes to a black man feeling worse. I get very cautious
And I live in Brazil btw, so we're very mixed. Despite that, there's a LOT of prejudice
Racism is learned and can be unlearned
@Ron Mastrio damn you gotta move bro
@Bob Boberts Nobody deserves to be mugged.
@JDgaming 209ehh that’s not true. Some people do.
@Bob Boberts Why? What could somebody do that would cause them to deserve being mugged?
This was more wholesome than I expected
The men in my family used to be too, until I had a biracial baby that was and still is the sweetest, most innocent, and loving girl in the family! I had a biracial son 5 years later (also a wonderful and respectful great mannered boy) and his dad became just like a member of the family who they loved! I feel things like this happen so people learn great life lessons ❤ It's funny how my kids turned out to be the exact opposite of the ignorant stereotypes!😊
Oh HELLL nah!! Once u had a baby they magically changed?? Doubt it. I’m sorry I just think they will make messed up comments about the baby behind her back and that is truly sad
Same thing happened with my mom & dad. My mom's side is mexican but they were super anti-black until i was born. Then, neither my dad or I could do no wrong. They're divorced now but my mom's family still loves my dad lol
His granddad was raised that way and fortunately he had the opportunity to get away from that through true friendship and exposure
which is literally the opposite effect of cancel culture, where someone with bad morals is shunned out of society so their hate can fester. i always love the story of the black man who intentionally made strides to befriend klan members, and personally converted dozens of them away from that ideology just by being friends. if everyone thought like him, groups like that would be eradicated. modern day people would just attack those guys which would only push them farther into their group, only growing its influence.
I get that and that not everyone thinks for themselves, but it's still so frustrating that people have to be taught not to be morons. I know that sounds bad. But I was questioning a lot of the things my elders would say and do since I was a kid and that's why I ended up so different. I don't know how people can't be critical and logical in their thinking. I guess that's why I can't help but see it as an excuse.
@DarthZ01 i feel you but that’s different. it would be nearly impossible to free all the kkk members from all their racist morals and thoughts about us. i feel this idea truly works with the common man who was brought up on racism. them kkk dudes still hang people still
Grandpa may have learned this time around how to open his mind and heart and just love your neighbor as you love yourself and your loved ones.
The love for his grandson, allowed this man to see the world in a better loving view
That’s actually a cool story, changed a whole man’s perspective on a group of people
Group of people ? It's a huge portion of the human population, we're not that much whites overall really.
@GreyPunkWolf now now, don't make a problem out of nothing. You must understand that's not what they meant.
Racism is just based on ignorance if you actually never met a black person and only watch them on Tv its clear why so many people hate us
my grandpa is kind of like this. Ive noticed that he’s starting to change how he feels about black people. Most of mine and my siblings friends are black and come over often. My brother is dating a black girl and my grandpa met her and her father and they hit it off really well. He is starting to evolve out of what he was taught to know.
As a black guy, I can tell you we are some cool, laid back mfs. Good for you and him ❤
Black people are really funny, too.
@skillfuldabest Crime is correlated with poverty, not race.
@pthesmith and poverty is correlated with intelligence. Intelligence is mostly genetic. Thus crime is correlated with race.
@skillfuldabest Um, no
@Sam Hyde this is why you’re still watching videos on how to stop being lonely instead of actually being likable 💀
@Sam Hyde if you're racist just say so 💀
I love the way that Grandpa showed growth. He was probably raised in one mindset that was perpetrated by everyone around him for years, and you truly introduced him to being a better person. Grandpa loves you, he is no doubt grateful and definitely a better man.!
This is such a beautiful story!! I saw my own father be a racist and it broke my heart as an 8 year old child and I swore I wouldn’t be that way and taught my kids that it doesn’t matter what people look like on the outside….it’s their heart that matters!!
Example of how racism is a learned behavior and can in fact be unlearned
No it’s a behavior based on observational truths.
I grew up in the south in the 60's. Today, my son-in-law is black and I truly love him. Black people brought me much happiness.
“IS THAT WHY YOU BONDED” was a violation
It’s actually really ugly and the worst kind of self-depreciation and self-hatred but hey. Y’know. You do you.
@Virtue of Absolution what are you on ab
@Virtue of Absolutionwhat are you even really going on about?
@Virtue of Absolution what is Blud waffling about ⁉️‼️
That’s the thing! Literally the best way to overcome your biases against a group is to regularly meet with people from the group and it de-wires your biases (Forensic Psychology grad). Isn’t that cool?
I've never judged anyone by the color of their skin. Only by they way they treat me and others around.
He's not only killing it in comedy he's killing racism too!
Well...id hope not 🤣🤣🤣
@Sammie love wdym?
@Sammie love I think this may be a misunderstanding
@Sammie love LMAOO
@Gaylord haha just a joke i only mean hes being racist and killing people. And yes. In hindsight this was a bad joke😭😭😭
Sweet grandson. Very wise. Your never too old to learn ❤
My grandpa liked saying racist things but was generous and thoughtful to everyone
Grandparents and their grandchildren make the best combo
Luke telling Anakin: "There is still hope for you. There is good inside you. I can feel it."
Mine adopted me, my real parents were shit and my granma and grampa didn't want me as a baby to die due to dr*g exposure. I'm one of the lucky ones and I can openly admit that. I'm just using that as an example how grandparents are always amazing. I'm 24 and still going strong thanks to them, who I call my real parents and I thank them daily for raising me right. They've kept me since I was a lil baby. But they were never racist, I'm mixed race myself and they thought that was pretty cool, cause they got to learn more about my background. My boyfriend's mother was extremely rascist.. she wouldn't have liked me at all 😅😅 that's a personal problem of her's. Anyone who is racist to anyone is obviously miserable themselves and strive to bring anyone down with them.
@Shikabane 🐉 Lynn um maybe I was talking about my personal experience. thank you sm.(;
“I took the salt off because I thought it was a lil spicy” took me out bro 😭😭
This is beautiful. No hate or anger just slowly untrained a trained behavior. Challenging an old, outdated useless belief. ❤
My mom was the same way until she worked in a warehouse with a bunch of foreign women and one day she came to me and said "I dont know why I ever used to hate them, they're some of the kindest people I've ever met. They are even kinder than some of the people from our own church"
She was prejudiced by her lack of exposure.
I've worked around a lot of migrant workers of all types, I still don't like them. Very few are even polite, much less nice.
@Sean Hazelwood lmao
Usually how it goes, we are human beings, we fear what we don't understand
Shout out to the grandchildren that don't carry the legacy of hate This is beautiful
Unteaching his grandpa racism is yet another reason to LOVE Matt Rife
I need more stuff like this in my feed. The beautiful side of humanity.
Real all I see is people criticizing people but I loved this video
Uhhh how so? All I see is two dudes hating themselves and their race/genetics. As if they are saying “oh well we are bad but these other people they are good aren’t we so bad”
@Virtue of Absolutionwhat is you saying😂😂
“It’s not the color of your skin, but the flavor within”
Props to you for learning for yourself and then giving him the opportunity to learn for himself as well. ❤
I'm glad his love for his grand child was stronger then his hate.
We gotta surrender to love sometime😪
Me too, his story brings me so much happiness 🙌💜
Jesus that’s nothing to celebrate
It’s takes a real man , to bring this subject up.. (RESPECT)🙏🏿
As a black man I love this story if it’s true.. we can all change and do better. He loves his Grandfather regardless of the flaws he had and showed him how to be better through that love.
Best part: there was no intent, it simply was kids play with kids they don’t care about the extras, if you love kids you don’t care about the pointless.
Go read the book “without sanctuary”
Yes he showed him love and how to love ❤️ amazing testimony 🙏❤️🩹love heals broken hearts…love conquers
It's probably not true. For anyone to go out of the way to joke about race on stage and talk about how all of his friends are/ were black, and tell stories like this, sounds like someone just trying to stay relevant.
Of course "black man"
“I took the salt off because I thought it would be too spicy” this guy is funny
My girl Molly Mol (Rest In Heaven 🙏🏾😪❤) was an absolute force in unlearning racism. Molly was a southern girl who just loved EVERYONE. She was friends with Rednecks and Gangsters. One time she picked me up to hang out and there was a skin head with her. She introduced us and said ‘look y’all are both some of my best friends and I wanted you to meet.’ I was MAD as hell. We sat in silence, rolling an L, then Molly just started being herself and next thing you know we were all laughing. Turns out that dude never even had a conversation with a black person, his family is racist AF and that’s how he was raised. He started questioning everything. Now he has long hair in a man bun and is an artist. She was just an angel.
people can change 😩
I agree I don't think it's bust worthy tho
@jackalexande Exactly bro
anything is bust worthy if you’re dedicated enough 😩
Dude's grandpa in his own Gran Torino universe.
I like how he just ignored the guy’s lame “oh, is that why you guys bonded” joke and just kept it pushing. 😂
Some people can change for the better glad ur grandpa got to!
Is that guy still poopin?
@Nope to the 12th power This is how I'm going to ask if someone has died from now on... "Man I haven't seen him in forever, is that mf still poopin'?" lol
@Nope to the 12th power lmaooo huh
It's like whoah
“Growing up my grandpa so was racist.” “is that why you bonded?” 😭💀
Grandson healing grandfather. What a great thing!
There's Hope. Love conquers hate.❤
Grandpa didn’t even realize he wasn’t racist anymore 😂😂😂
My Grandpa was born in 1898 and his best friend for many years was black. People called my Grandpa all kinds of racist names but it never bothered him. I asked him once why it didn't bother him and he told me it's better to have 1 real friend then a room full of fake friends
A great man, he did it before it was cool to do it, say's a lot about him, may he rest in eternal peace
This is the absolute greatest answer ❤
@Gilbert Habarugaba who says he died?
@YourCommentIsntFunnyV2 honey he was born in 1898 you don't even need to ask
Just imagine the person asking the question thinking whether or not to ask the guy : “Was he ur favourite grandpa bc he was racist?”. But instead he just for the final outcome ❤
That’s often what it takes is spending time with each-other. I need some friends that are not Black myself.
He deracisted him Ngl wholesome thou Edit:I stand by my words and will not fix this.
Deracisted? Seriously? 536 read this and agreed with deracisted? Ight
@Malik Evans " I like your funny words magic man"
Very true sans undertale, good take
@Malik Evans Your reply is a hahahan't.
“Growing up my grandpa was so racist.” “Is that why you bonded ?” Yeah, we just casually sat and cat called passing inferior people cause they have audacity to live.
“Is that why y’all bonded?” Im dying 💀💀💀
This is actually really wholesome. The way he was able to unlearn racism is amazing.
yeah, this is great! I'm so glad people can change for the better
i wish more people could do it. no matter how many people unlearn racism more people won’t change and teach their kids it’s okay to be racist and the cycle keeps going. i’ve had enough racism thrown at me so it would be great if everyone treated racism differently than saying that it’s not a big deal.
@Miro mb that you discriminate against people based on the color of their skin lmao
I grew up in a more diverse than average area and now I'm far-right. Explain that one lol
"Growing up my grandpa was so racist" "Oh one that you love more than anything?" *nervous sweating* "A-Absolutely"
NAH no filter for your own community is wild. “ I took the salt off” 😂😂😂😂😂 he kills me
My uncle was the most racist man my family knew. Until I was born. He was wheelchair bound (for context) They told me that when I was born and brought around the family he was unrecognizable. A person full of nothing but love and adoration for this sweet brown baby he used to roll around in his lap all day. I still remember when he died . I was there. I love you uncle Terry been a generational curse breaker since I was born. ❤🎉
"Wheelchair bound" is not preferred. Used a wheelchair is better.
Beautiful story, I have a 2nd generation cousin, she n her husband racist to where, not in my family but not bothered if your in the neighborhood in the next town but not their neighborhood. Son n his wife became addicts n had to take in their bi-racial grandchildren that they didnt really talk to. They fell in love n have been raising them like their own kids n much better because they've been raised with love n no hatred as where their father n his siblings didnt get that love n guidance, they were raised to stay away from anyone that wasn't white but my cousin obviously didn't listen lol and because he didn't listen n made these beautiful children who broke down the barriers n made these 2 people love without hatred 🙌💜
@Jhenifer Johnson Wtf 😂 nah this gotta stop. He was Wheelchair bound… he didn’t useeee a wheelchair.. he needed to be in it & couldn’t get out of it.. which is why he was WHEELCHAIR BOUND.
@Jhenifer Johnson Correcting random strangers due to your own trite sensitivities is not preferred. Leaving them to their own expressions is better. 🙄
God is SO SO GOOD. He really worked it out, didnt he? Love love LOVE your story...HIS story. Same basic thing happened with my friend's husband. His daughter (un-wed & 16, which was HORRIFYING for him to begin with). 2wks after her baby girl was born, I got to meet their (GORGEOUS) lil brown g.girl. 22yrs later I still CLEARLY remember my jaw hitting the floor, witnessing the IMMEDIATE & TRULY MIRACULOUS change in that racist old man. (Err...FORMERLY racist). Shes still & FOREVER his ABSOLUTE EVERYTHING!
Snuck in the little “is that why you guys bonded” like we wasnt gonna hear it🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for sharing…these the conversation that need to be shared
We need new generation like this.
What are you talking about I grew up in the nineties in Chicago everybody went to school together blacks and whites grew up together This is not nothing new It's 2023 It's Not 1860 anymore
@Paul Martin IIIthere are still a lot of racist people. racist people are in power in the us government. there are open and covert white supremacists in court. eradicating racism is something we still need to work towards but weve made a decent first stride
"Is that why you bonded?" GOT ME ROLLING ON THE FLOOR 💀
“Is that where you guys bonded” -gets ignored 😢
If people want to get rid of racism, unity is the answer, not division. Wonderful story!
ᴅᴏɴ’ᴛ ʀᴇᴀᴅ ᴍʏ ɴᴀᴍᴇ 🗿🗿
it won’t ever happen lol
Democrats keep ot alive
Unfortunately we’re just getting more and more divided.
i relate to this. Bet a lot of people do. Times change for sure.
People fear what they don't understand. It's human nature.
Exposure therapy 💀 ☠️ 💀 Edit: first time getting 1k likes, thank you so much
That’s what made every racist I know racist
Exposure therapy when it comes to groups outside of ur own definitely plays a role as to why big cities r on average more liberal. Not even just race, but when it comes to people of different cultures, sexualities, ethnicities, nationalities, immigrants, etc. But it has to be sufficient Exposure, cus if not done properly it either doesnt work or it back fires.
Enjoy your 4k. I'm from the recent future.
Tf are you saying thank you for, random people online liked your comment?
"all of my friends have been black" Sure they have
Lmao "is that where you guys bonded?" that flew right over their heads
RIGHT im surprised more people arent talking about how funny that was 😭
‘’Is that why you guys bonded’’ ‘’No cause he was German too’’ 💀 💀 💀
“Oh the one that you love more than anything?” Lmfao that’s some shit I would say 😂😂😂
He wasn't forced he chose to be around
Till my jaw locks and my esophagus prolapses
You are so virtuous, I don’t know how you can even stand yourself!
Kids are the "best part" of who we are as people he is a reflection of his grandpa he wasn't really a quote unquote racist he just didn't really know any black people, but his grandchild took care of that you're never too old to learn from the babies!
The same thing kinda happened with me. My first white friend had my family shook. "Why you always playing with that lil white girl?" I was with her every chance I got because she was fun and our weirds matched. When she started sleeping over every other weekend I noticed my family wasn't as tense around her anymore. After they got used to seeing her around they included her. They would tell me "go get your friend so we can play hide and seek on teams" 20 years later, we're still like sisters.
great example of how racism goes both ways but it’s most often a simple misunderstanding of the other race. At the end of the day we’re all people and we all have the same minds regardless of color
His grandpa loved him. He made the sacrifice for love sake. All God
Dude has the most kissable lips
This is why its important to let people grow from their mistakes.
better than cancelling and shunning them to extreme levels. stuff like that only makes it worse.
@Luna completely depends. Racism was learned before, nobody is raised that way anymore the people who are cancelled nowadays are usually entirely too grown to know racism is wrong. It's deserved imo
@MLCPeople are absolutely taught to be racist, lol. Parents that say racist shxt, indoctrinate their children w prejudice etc in areas shielded away from diversity. it just ain’t the 40s anymore 🤷🏾♀️ Social media definitely makes it that folks should know better
Key thing is HE WAS OPEN TO IT...NOBODY CAN KEEP YOU IGNORANT BUT YOU!!!!
Love is always the solution ❤
it would really depend how racist the grandpa was
Grandpa really said ' i have no enemies'
Grandchildren can teach their grandparents to love all
i can relate so hard to this. I'm glad I wasn't born 100 years ago.
proof that "its just my generation" is NOT an excuse
Grandchildren have a way of changing people, that no one else can, my grandpa smoked for over 40 years, no one could get him to stop, until I was 3 and told him I didn’t like it when he was stinky, he stopped immediately after, miss him everyday. Love you grandpa❤
I smoked. Meet hubby and he told me that night he didn't. Stopped that night, because I didn't want to be stinky. All previous bf smoked and we cancelled each other out.
Adults are jaded AS fuck especially when it comes to other adults. sometimes it takes an innocents soul to change people.
So you killed him.
I always ran away when my dad smoke and he still does it :c
@jan Kisi skill issue
Thats the power of God love....he will use those closest too you to bring you too his will. Beautiful story.... All humans just want to be loved and accepted 😊
I'm half black (visible minority), and my BFF is white. My dad is white, and my mom came with a black daughter when she met my dad. His family took my older half-sister in with no quelms. I was fortunate to have the accepting family, and my Grandma made your difference feel beautiful. She said she only wanted two things in life. To see on top of the fridge (she was 5'2") and my curls (I used to put my hair over her head and she'd take pictures) like she had my hair.
“I’m not racist my friends are black”
I love people who make a genuine effort of changing their ways and doing better. Immense respect to your grandpa.
“I brought you some saltines but I brushed the salt off bc they’re a little spicy.” -👨🏻🦳
Sometimes we just have to give people a chance to correct and check themselves. Offer to educate or show compassion. Give chances. If people constantly choose to do things wrong, yes they deserve whatever karma or consequences that are coming to them. But if you see people trying to change and do better, then we should support them not cancel or obliterate them.
That's how you change People 🙌🏾😁
AMEN and AMEN!
Thanks young man, you are amazing 🤎
The fact that it took about 8 years you can tell how deeply rooted it can be sometimes, im glad Matt stuck to it and helped him see how wrong it was
I found out my grandma was racist before I was born. I'm mixed and once I was born they said she stopped. I didn't even know until I was an adult about it. She never said anything bad about black people to me growing up.
That is a beautiful story!! Love is the answer!!!
Your existence made her want to unlearn racism and realize there's other humans who look like you equally deserving of love
The same thing happened in my family. One of my loved ones had a racist Grandfather by marriage. All of his step daughters. Had kids by black men. The grand children opened up his heart. He was so kind to us the Christmas b4 he passed away. It took those beautiful mixed kids to break down those walls. He was taught hate as a child.
