I didn’t honestly know a lot about Ukraine before this war began, but I have to say that I have been so impressed by the quality of people there. They are a great nation and president Zelensky is awesome. In Russia there are many wonderful people too who want nothing to do with this evil war. Clearly the problem is Putin and his old guard and they have to go one way or the other.

Not quite so many wonderful people in Russia. They said nothing when Putin sent little green men to the Donbas and when he annexed Crimea. They said nothing when Putin started a war without reason. They said nothing when the common graves were discovered in Bucha. They said nothing when Mariupol was bombed into the ground - despite Mariupol being the Ukrainian city with the most ethnic Russian inhabitants. Where were those wonderful Russians when all this happened?

People are getting fired not just for protests, sometimes for "inappropriate" jokes. Bulk of putin supporters are elderly people working for government. And in russian society people still remember 90ies - our own American Great Depression. These peoples are not indoctrinated supporters, it just that their reliance on government money and mental trauma after which they value their 300$ per month more than having voice and opinion. I can participate in protests because i have wealthier middle class parents, so im not that afraid of getting expelled from university (we had a lot of protesters expelled from universities all the way since 2012). But for a lot of young people university is their only chance of having not completely miserable life. Revolutions are not made by whole population, but by fraction of activists. But then again - activists are hunted for almost 10 years already, not a lot are left. Right now we have new shiny law - male protestors are getting conscripted right from police stations. Its again question of having something that lets you continue. Like i do have only one eye, so im not that afraid of conscription - but there's non zero chance i can be conscripted. You want all this people to leave everything and sacrifice themselves for greater good, but it's not something that can be demanded from ordinary people of any country.

I was #8 (1-365) during the Vietnam War draft. It is a Frightening event for a 19 yo who has no idea what he's fighting for. As a Mexican American with parents who were farmworkers and hardly knew English, I had no chance to avoid it.Ten days ofter graduation from HS I was at Fort Ord starting basic training. As any draft in any country, it is the poor and the minority groups who will suffer the brunt of the war. In our community it was that if you were drafted it was, "infanteria y luego Vietnam"...(infantry then Vietnam). Few Americans have experienced what it's like to get drafted. In a personal note, it was the scaring month of my life, leading up finally reporting to the Greyhound Bus Depot at 6 am. I still remember as had happened yesterday, if you can imagine in a bus all day as it stopped at different towns and heading south to Fort Ord. NOT A SINGLE WORD WAS SPOKEN IN 8 HOURS. I guy who I had played a couple of year of varsity foodball with but I was pissed off at him because he had a big yellow envelope with medical expats and paperwork. I had no wish to speak to him about anything...........OH..I did end euphorias being trained as a combat medic but thank God did not go to Nam.

At least Zelensky shows more humanity towards his enemies than Putin does towards his. He actually is telling his foes that if they surrender, he'll treat them fairly, and seeing as how many of the new Russian forces are both citizens not wanting to fight or prisoners being forced to fight, it's possible many of them may surrender.

Based on the available videos and pictures of the Ukrainian attack against Dudčan, I claim that the number of destroyed up to 10 Ukro tanks and 15-20 BVP during the first day of fighting is very realistic, and if the Ukrainians lost 20-25 tanks in three days only against Dudčan and BVP "that they cannot be enumerated" (if the ratio is the same as the first day, 1 destroyed tank - 1.5 or 2 destroyed BVP, the total number would be between 30 and 50 lost BVP Ukra), I am of the opinion that Ukri will in the very foreseeable future time on the Kherson Front to lose too much equipment and crews to continue the offensive, of course if the Russian lines do not collapse, which I still doubt will happen considering that there should still be a serious team there. If this pace continues, the Ukrainians will lose a tank brigade in 7 days!!! Instead of focusing on which side will win or lose, they must focus on peace agreements and establishing trade and commerce with each other again as neighbours and brethren. I watched a previous new preview showing at least 20 Russian soldiers. I thought there was a motto amongst them that 'no man left behind'. As a mother how mortifying for the parent, no matter what country you support never knowing where your 'child' or how your 'child' died. I naively thought all soldiers took there dead with them to be given back to families. Definitely naivety on my part.

When Ukraine pulls through this, they are going to be a unified and productive country and become an economic powerhouse. This war will bring a level of cooperation within their citizenry that hasnt been seen since the US coming out of ww2.

i've got alot of respect for ukraine treating prisoners of war as human beings not like russia is treating its owne ppl. even when the usa did the draft it was inhumane then. and a draft is inhumane now by anyone. thats why i am not surprised at the russian soldiers that turn themselves in. they get much more civilized treatment than putin treats them.

"Mobilisation to grave" is just adaptation that happened due to translation

You talked about 8,500 cars that crossed the border to Finland yesterday, but you didn't mention the border crossings in the opposite direction. A couple of days ago there where 6,000 to 6,500 coming to Finland, and about 3,000 going to Russia, and according to the Finnish authorities these numbers are less then the numbers before the Covid restrictions! The difference now is what kind of people that "travel".

They said 8500 people, not cars. Pay attention. No one cares about the ones that want to enter Russia. That's not what the segment is about and all it tells you is that international travel is a thing.

Therefore in simple logic you can see why they sided with Hitler as this was their chance to get back the land stolen by USSR. Many countries fell i to this simple trap and Finland was one of many countries that regretted their support for Hitler. Just as many regretted supporting Stalin. In a war mistakes are made when you decide there are just two sides to a conflict. Ukraine has many faults but with a clear aggressor in Putin it is logical they now get support from most of the world. The anti war stance after Putin grabbed land in 2014 has made this current struggle all the worse for all concerned especially Putin. Everyone is anti war as war never achieves anything but misery but the war was clearly started by Putin and without total surrender and again the temporary disappearance of Ukraine as a sovereign nation it is literally FREEDOM or DEATH for Ukraine. So why are you here for a week only? This raises all sorts of red flags. And your tone towards Finland is anything but peaceful. They are a nation that have tried more than anyone to be neutral and not antagonise Russia but just get threats in exchange for their neutrality. I suppose you are aware of Putin buying up strategic territory in Finland which could be used against Finland? A ruse or one of his ruses used elsewhere.

Putin should have kept the mobilisation secret, because aside from scaring and angering his own people, this is what it says to the West. "We've lost 40-50,000 troops and we are running out. We need a refill! The great Russian Army isn't really 1 million strong with 2 million reservists, it is actually a fraction of that." Maybe Putin should make a statement about his tanks and armour too. "Turns out our tanks are worthless and we have lost over half of our serviceable ones in the last 6 months. We are currently trying to get some Chinese ones on Ebay!"
