@Spritual Ant Although it can be done without traveling by moving your feet while you are still in the middle of your gathering, Harden, more often than not, grabs the ball with both hands (gathering motion ended there) and then do like 3 or 4 steps, that's travel. They just don't call it.

I am so happy to see that. Shooting while jumping into another player is a really bad thing for the game, at least form the audience perspective. It both reduces the likelihood of making the shot and stops the flow of the game. I have always hated the players that did that, and Hardin was obviously the worst offender even without seeing this video to prove it. I understand that at full speed it is hard to always judge correctly who initiated the contact, but there needs to be a penalty for offensive players who do this all the time.

When we moved to Ohio and a couple years later, basketball was in no way shape or form apart of my life. Sports were, just not basketball. All I could do is shoot the long ball, that's it. Vor 9 Monate

I'm not sure that there are as many as a lot of people think. It's a fact that NBA rules are more lax in that area. I think the problem is that the lax NBA rules have made it quite hard to tell what is a travel and what isn't - it's often still hard to tell after watching several slo-mo replays - so what chance do the refs have of getting it consistently right with a single look at full speed? I don't think there are as many travels as many people think, but there are still too many. The NBA relaxes rules like that to make the game more of a spectacle for the fans but I'd suggest that they piss more fans off by making the game less interesting. Using the same traveling rules as the rest of the world would make it far clearer what is a travel and what isn't and fans would feel that the game was fairer and thus enjoy it more.

Vor 9 Monate

@YDV ! I think Bill Walton and Arvydas Sabonis were better natural passers than Wilt at the center position. Jokić is more like Bill and Sabonis, his passing is natural. Wilt's assists were forced because he was going out of his way to prove he wasn't selfish, he was challenged by a very stern coach named Alex Hannum to be a better team system player in 68'. Russell Westbrook is like Wilt in that they were both physical phenoms, but never really played within the flow of the game. Wilt and Russ were stat focused players, not natural playmakers for others like Walton, Sabonis, or even Vlade Divac. Those were true unselfish players, and Jokić is amongst them. I feel like Harden has profited the most from his era, but I do mostly think of him as a natural playmaker. You see his true self late in big playoff games, he becomes passive. His scoring ability becomes exposed when the refs silence their whistles, and he resorts to staying in the shadows then.

As someone that refs basketball at a fairly low comp level here in Australia, I’m really happy that the FIBA rules are used. As a ref, one of the first things you learn is how everyone has their own theoretical space. And a foul is described as a breach of that space that creates a unfair disadvantage. (Very loose definition if you want a better one get it off FIBA) but basically if the defence moves into the offenders space and makes contact in most cases that’s a foul. But it’s clear to see that the opposite is being done here. The offender in intentionally jumping in creating all of the contact and flails as to create the illusion of a foul. If I saw this in one of my games I would most likely give it a no call and in a stoppage I’d tell the guy that did it to stop or I’ll start calling it as an offensive foul. I honestly think it’s a joke that it took this long for the NBA to realize that this wasn’t acceptable and ruined the concept of fair three point shooting. If you want to shoot from out there, just shoot the damn ball like the rest of us.

The Olympics were a really cool showcase of what I’ve always thought. The players complained for not getting calls they normally get. People tried to say this is proof they’re soft. However the tournament proved the exact opposite. It took a couple games but when the team got used to the more physical play style they became damn near unstoppable. Their defense was solid as hell. They only need to adjust and then they’re back to their usual star level of play.

It was always about the rules being soft, players over time were just working with what the rules say. Most of those guys on tean USA never played internationally, so the rule differences shocked them at first. But as you said, pros are pros because they adjust and adapt. The irony of this is, back in the day NBA pundits considered international ball to be softer than NBA....now, look😂 That's probably a big reason why NBA made this change.

Vor 10 Monate

The rules are soft, but, honestly, so are a lot of the players. A prime example of this is Lebron James, who is the league’s biggest star, and most outspoken social justice snowflake. Lebron is one of the biggest, strongest, most talented, and most athletic players there’s ever been, and he’s also one of the softest. He falls down whenever an opposing player gets anywhere close to him, and then he rolls around on the court, grabbing his head, like he’s dying. Then, if the referee actually does a good job, and doesn’t give “King James” the bad call he wants, he starts whining, like he heard someone talking bad about the Chinese Communist Party, or he just remembered the fact that Hillary Clinton will never be president. He makes more money than most people’s entire families will ever see, yet he claims to be oppressed, due to his dark skin tone, and, somehow, he seems to actually believe it. He’s absolutely obsessed with skin color, so much so that he taught his kids that they should be afraid of white people. He says that he worries that one of his sons will be killed by a white policeman, even though they are, statistically, more likely to be stung to death by bees. He’s convinced that all black guys are in danger of being killed by white cops, just because a few violent criminals got shot, while fighting with the police, or trying to pull a gun on them, and the liberal media made a big deal out of it, because the criminals happened to be black. “The King” started watching CNN a few years ago, and now he thinks he’s an expert on politics. He‘a a great player, without a doubt, and he does truly amazing things on the court, so you’d think that he’d be respected, if not loved, by most every basketball fan in America, yet, even Democrats don’t like him, because he whines all the time, and he’s softer than most little girls. He’s actually a genius when it comes to playing basketball, but he can’t keep from whining about other things, that are clearly way over his gigantic head. He had the talent to be the most beloved player since Michael Jordan, but he blew the opportunity, by constantly whining, and running his big, dumb mouth. He never understood that when someone has more money than the GDP of some entire nations, and he lives in the greatest country on the planet, where even the poorest people are richer than 90% of the world, and he’s able to do, or have, pretty much anything he could ever dream of, feeling sorry for himself just isn’t a very good look. He could’ve had everything he has now, and a reputation for being a good person, to go along with it, but he couldn’t keep from flopping around on the court, like a fish out of water, and making all the fans, outside the city of his current super team, want to pull against him, by crying like a baby, constantly, both on and off the court. He learned how to dribble a basketball well at an early age, but, unfortunately, he just never could figure out how to shut up and dribble. It’s for that reason, more than anything else, that no one actually likes him today, and he doesn’t have a single real friend in the whole world. He has more money than he could ever spend, but, sadly, he will always be poor and unhappy, and softer than the other side of a Mypillow, which is made in the great state of Minnesota, and, obviously, is very soft.

@J.R Junior here's something called a gather step then you can take your normal 2 steps. Harden just hop, skips, and jumps around and they consider the hop to be the gather.

The difference between Curry and Harden: Harden was screwed by this rule and majorly has to change his game. Meanwhile for Steph, it was never his only trick in the book, so he's still dropping 40 point game left and right.

If u step back, u go up- shoot and down. If u fly forward or sideways to draw a foul, if it is minimal= no call, medium= offensive foul, notorious player lime Milker/Curry/Harden/Doncic= technical foul The purpose should be to pull up a decent shot to make it, in spite of fouls. Reward hinest defense (got a give the shooter landing space though). Also, what Trae is douig is offensive foul in fiba basketball! You cant beat the guy then stop suddenly that he has contact. Unnatural movement! Jyst keep going or shoot/pass. Keep the game celan, give real defenders (not Pat Bey type) a chance.

I'm all for bringing back tight man defense, full court presses all game long, overall less foul calling in general with only essential foul calling with as minimal impact on the game as possible, and an increase in holding players and coaches more accountable for their violent, showboating, disrespectful and disruptive behavior (that includes college too). Fundamentally sound, fast paced, and team oriented but still individually driven basketball is very exciting to watch! On the other hand, very slow paced, infighting, excessive showboating, official and foul heavy, and uninspired and passionate-less basketball is not fun to watch.

I hope they don’t implement this rule for defenders trail in the bar like you pointed out with Trey Burke because in my opinion it is the offense of players right to stop and rise at any point to make a jumpshot especially if a defender is behind them And a defender should know if they’re trailing the ball to be trailing from the side so they can contest when he goes up

Vor 10 Monate

at least when he do that he usually bangs the shot. Others do that when they can't make shots and they use that as an alternative to score. As steph gets a lot of defender as a response to his great shooting, he uses this strat to scare away the defender for him to get some space to shoot.

I would argue that the Trae Young's is a legitimate basketball move. Driving hard then pulling up short for a jumper has been part of the game since the beginning. He isn't flailing left or right, he is going straight up and people are hitting him from behind. That should always be a foul.

I’m extremely glad they’re taking away some of the ticky-tacky fouls like the swipe through shot, and especially this one. When the shooter is clearly the one _initiating contact_ during the shot — Doing crazy things like kicking their legs out, leaping unnaturally into the defender etc. (That can hurt either player by the way). I’m really stoked to see some perimeter defense coming back to the game

Vor 10 Monate

@Baby Bentley there’s a difference between a pump fake and then jumping up vertical for a normal jump shot — and jumping *45° forward* into the defender. Nobody honestly shoots like that, unless they’re shooting a layup or floater in the paint (or cheesing a foul like in this clip)

Vor 9 Monate

@Mark Baldwin I’m not disputing hip check (common fouls), but to get free throws during a “rip through” shot is an unnatural shooting motion with no accuracy — and an obvious attempt to cheese free throws

I remember Reggie Miller would kick out his legs after a 3 pointer. That was just what veterans would do because they knew they could get away with it. I am not saying it was right but everyone knows those tricks but what Harden and Curry is doing is abusing it because it takes away from the game.

Shooting fouls where the shooter (at the perimeter) is moving forward and/or initiating the contact should not be regarded as a foul. This rule should also be more liberally used for shots taken at the rim, because too many layups do not deserve an addition free throw just because a defender attempts to block your ability for a layup or rim shot. If the rule was enforced strictly then Ben Simmons would be the most pathetic NBA player alive since his total points per game would drop to below 6 points.

I've always hated the stepback in the modern NBA because everytime I see a player do a stepback they take at least 3-4 steps - and the refs DO NOT call a foul. Make it make sense, I get it we all want to see these player score and it's exciting to score - but that just kills the fundamentals of the game.

Called correctly consistently this would be great. But now you leave it up to the refs to evaluate every shot even more and have alot of their personal opinion of what is and isn't a foul at game speed. Even slowed down alot of people have different opinions and there is gonna be games they really let people play or call certain fouls and don't call the exact same foul on the other end
