I've just finished this for myself, I was going into it very critical as I really did not like 4 or 5. But I can honestly say this is a great halo game, very good reset which we needed. Good 8 to a 9 out of 10 for me. Very well needed for the franchise.

Yeah it needed a little more, could have used snow, warthog run, the road level could have been 3x as long, there were some cool things in halo 4 and 5 that they didn’t try to replicate like flying a pelican for example, I also liked the grunt holding a skull in 5, more story in 5 but people complained about that, we skipped too far ahead imo, completely missed the Cortana war, where is Halsey?

I will say as a huge Halo fan the missions in the tunnels from nexus to silent auditorium were super awesome. I've seen a lot of people/reviewers complain about them and from an outsider (not a huge halo nerd) I can understand why. However, if you are a huge halo nerd or just remember playing ce, 2, and 3 you will love the tunnels architecture as it brings back rooms, spaces, scenery not seen since there respective halo installment. One example, (spoiler free) is the gondola from Halo 2 making its return in one part, etc. so if your a big halo fan you don't gotta worry about that part

The gameplay nostalgia is insane. I felt sent all the way back to Halo 2 in the Nexus mission.

@Joshua Cruz you’re tripping, Halo 3 ODST didn’t do as well because it was supposed to be DLC for halo 3, but eventually just released as it’s very own game and then they thought it was good enough to be a full game, so they released it for $60 dollars which pissed off a bunch of people, which is probably why not as many people bought it from the start, but it was still a solid game, a breathe of fresh air, something we never really seen from an other Halo game at the time, you had an hub area full of secrets to find, added a night vision scanner, pistol and smg with suppressors, that awesome jazzy soundtrack, and a bunch of interesting characters, an awesome story, and the campaign missions felt very unique and interesting, the fact that you have to find clues as the rookie, and then you play as different people, ODST is obviously not the best the franchise has to offer, but it’s still a classic.

I don't like halo 4 and 5 because halo 5 storyline feels doesn't make any sense, 2 Halo 4 weapons are way too weak and armor designs look so bad

@Nox In a Box I know that the comment is 4 months old but don't defend unfinished games they had 6 years and although halo infinite is pretty good it's still unfinished. The multiplayer is just disappointing how many month have already passes since release 4-5 ? And there is still basically nothing new just empty promises. For a live service game that is nothing but a disappointment. I know season 2 will get some content but it's over for a lot of players the more time passes the harder it will be for them to get back into the game again.

That's why elden Ring is doing so well. A complete game at launch, no microtransaction bullshit.

Just finished the campaign, it's soooooooo good. Really like the direction they took and turning Halo into one humongous sandbox experience was a great move. Now I'm going through in Heroic, then legendary 👌🏾👌🏾 Seriously well executed game.

@Juan Martinez  Legendary was a lot of fun, but boy are some of the bosses straight booty on legendary. And a few of the non-boss/mini-boss sections were almost just as hard if not harder. Hunters are SCARY again in this game, at least on Legendary, which I enjoyed. They're so fast. Other than a few of the bosses and the indoor chieftan/hunter sections, this was a very easy campaign on Legendary compared to the other Halo games solo, but boy do they make up for the difficulty with those fights. Very, very much enjoyed the gameplay/ movement mechanics though. Felt really well polished.

I love it. Campaign is awesome. Can't wait for coop to be unlocked.

What you said about the "floaty" warthog is entirely true. I can't count how many times the warthog has flipped over in multiplayer because of a small bump. It's feels too light, like it's the same weight as the mongoose. It's practically a more mobile tank, it should feel heavier and more steady on the ground.

Halo 4 had the best physics

Loved this game. Absolutely fantastic. It’s just as fun to run around climbing mountains and tearing through random enemies than the story line, the story line though is also really excellent. The needler and the Heatwave are absolute garbage weapons however. The needles are slower than your grapple (probably) and never hit anything, and the heatwave does about the same amount of damage as the plasma pistol but only has like 20 rounds. Not sure what the deal is with that

I have completely love this game. Introduced on my series X with the Early multiplayer we got, thought it was seamless and unbelievably smooth. And now to be decently into the campaign now, so far I'm a huge huge fan. Looking forward to seeing how the second half of the campaign goes. Thanks for this video man!

Great gameplay but the story lacked BIG time. They should call it, "Halo: Infinite Podiums". It was small scale and I was surprised when I finished it. Nothing really stood out and the end left me unsatisfied. 343 just still hasn't figured out that Bungie formula. A shame.

I feel Halo: Infinite is going to go the way of Games as a Service, but in terms of using Infinite as a platform to launch large scale DLC content, so there won't be a Halo: Infinite 2, but a fluid continuation. It'll be modular, as Multiplayer and Campaign being separate has already shown.

I don't really like the live service model due to not only every game doing it but some taking it to such an extreme that its spanning 3 console generations (Im looking at you GTA V). I think I would rather have a new game every 2 to 5 years instead of every 10-20 years

I love running around with the AI marines. If you have special weapons at your FOB you can give them to the AI and drive around in the modified warthog. I run with 2 volatile skewers, an m41 tracker, an arcane sentinel beam, and a tracker hydra. It's amazing. My marines won't even let me run anyone over before they light up what's on screen.

I am happy with the focus on the particular feature of the open-world concept because it was something that annoyed me 5 minutes into leaving the first 'main mission'. I can appreciate the move to this style of game, but there is something so exasperating and annoying about having to travel across a map and have various encounters and complete a laundry list of tasks versus having a packaged up 'level' for you to play. Certain games have mastered this and made it enticing to explore and have numerous 'side quests', take Dark Souls. Truthfully, ODST had some open world exploration and hidden secrets, but there was this continuous push and direction towards the main event of the 'mission'. Maybe I am just too focused on this particular facet, but Halo to me should have kept to the old style of campaign and thus previous Halo games still take the cake for me for campaign (Love me some Reach or Halo 3).

This game is absolutely fantastic. I'm in love with what they've done this time with the whole open-world aspect. It was risky seeing as how Halo campaigns have mostly been straightforward and "to the point," but holy hell they did great. The campaign here is fun, explosive, and keeps you engaged everywhere you go. This isn't your typical open-world shooter, not even close, this is Halo new-era. The gameplay, the story with how much it is, the power that each gun gives you the feeling of when firing, it's all amazing and it feels new and explosive, yet it's something entirely new. We definitely haven't seen anything like this in Reach or Halo 5 but it still doesn't stray too far from those paths and delivers what a lot of us love to see and feel in a first-person shooter. You really do feel the game when you're playing, the power you get. Whether you're a Halo fan or not, it does things so well. I'm hooked and I can say, for me at least, that it's one of the best Halo games ever.

I know it's an impossibility because of pattent protection, but imagine the campaign with the Nemesis system...that might give some variety from game to game and expand the longevity.

The only game I've ever playes with the Nemesis system was that LOTR-game. There are others?

Im very much looking forward to finally getting my hands on this game. Thank you so much Jake for all the before you buy videos. I find them very informative. Alot of games i want to play, i always go to youtube and watch a before you buy. Sad its over for now. I cant say good or bad about halo seeing as i havent played infinite yet.

I think what makes the difference between good open world games and "repetitive" ones comes down to how enjoyable the movement is from place to place. Most open world games' movement consists of just "run in this direction", but if you're instead driving there in a Warthog that has a turret and goofy physics and then be able to switch to other vehicles and use a grapple to get around steep terrain then the movement is enjoyable.

I'm enjoying the gameplay in multiplayer, and the way they seem to have set up the open world seems like they could just continuously add new world to explore with similar objectives, but different bosses and new designs and enemies. I can see alot of room for them to make some great content for this game

Imma keep it a bean; halo infinite is cool, but they tried too hard to make it like bungies halo. I honestly liked the old militaristic feel that halo had back then, and that’s something halo 4 and 5 did as well as bungie. Halo infinite straight up feels like just cause 3, which isn’t bad, but it doesn’t feel like halo

I played the MP beta and in some aspects it WAS better than 5 (which was a total abomination from start to finish) but thats really not saying much. I felt like the pistol and maybe AR could have used a buff (but not to the degree where they outshine the BR and DMR).

They did say that halo infinite is the last mainstream halo game, but they’re going to continuously be adding on to the story of halo through infinite, hence the name halo infinite 👀

Haven't played it yet, but as a long time Halo fan, I really hope that 343 releases expansive, diverse locales for campaign DLC. The changing and dynamic environments in the other Halo games are what made me absolutely love the story initially. Everything felt so sweeping and I always felt like I was floating and never ready for the next great vista!

Best combat gameplay in the whole halo series that’s what made me play but the story too is amazing💯🖤

The thing is, while it is true Halo Infinite is an open world game, you can't let your pre-conceptions of that get in the way. You gotta just play it like Halo. The open world activities are simply a vehicle that 343 used to hand-craft interesting Halo combat encounters. In my opinion, using the open world to the game's advantage gave me one of the most widely varied Halo gameplay I've had to date. I'm a Halo vet, been playing since I was a kid playing the DEMO of Combat Evolved on a laptop. Halo Infinite feels like a _Master Chief simulator._ Go play it

I've been playing Halo since I was old enough to hold a controller and I'm finally feeling that excitement come back with this new installment. I've been loving the Multiplayer and can't wait to dive back into the story

I'll give you one warning about this game from everything I've seen without a spoiler. "Repetitive" Ubisoft type style attempt at a barren open world, you'll max 3-4 playthroughs on this before you get bored.

Bascially same man, I was like 4 or 5 when I first played HALO CE, HALO 2 and when HALO 3 came out later on. But I had more time and memories on the 360 as we sold the original XBOX hence why HALO 3 will be my all time favourite game, has a special place in my heart. 14+ years later and I'm still finding/hearing quotes, features, how much skulls can't impact the game, and a bunch of other stuff that I've never heard/experienced in ALL these years.

Muliplayer is dope

This is the first game I'll be playing on the Series X that I've actually been waiting for to impress me on the console. Outriders looks fantastic as does Forza and fun to play but these games are what you're waiting for.

It’s my favorite halo experience to date . It’s like if forge and campaign had a beautiful sandbox baby that we all get to play around in and enjoy . Looking forward to all the shorts and tik toks to come from this awesome installment of halo !

If Cyberpunk 2077's release had a silver lining, it was scaring 343 into delaying Halo Infinite

I think we can definitely remember this game as one that was much better off getting the extended delay vs releasing it in the state it was originally planned to be released on. Here's hoping we can get more releases like that in the future, where gaming companies aren't afraid to delay the release when necessary, and hopefully avoid selling some of the buggy messes we've been seeing as of late. Here's looking at you, Pokémon.

@ChickenSnitchzel that's true, but I don't think that's hard enough evidence to say that it scared 343. The buggy and unfinished final product that Cyberpunk was at launch was far more impactful on the gaming industry than any rumors of rocky development at CDPR could've been. I mean, God of War (2018) was delayed internally and there were rumors of troubled development at Sony Santa Monica, but the game ended up being great. Same is true of Halo Infinite. There's no way to know for sure what state a game will launch in until it's released to the public.

I agree with your points and I do love the direction the game is going in but I’m mostly disappointed with the the lack of customization. If you’re going for a open world game give people a reason to explore. They made this giant beautiful world but I don’t have a reason to go out and see it... unless you love endless repetition and meaningless fights

Halo Infinite is my favourite since CE. Infinite was amazing for me. I've played them all. And completed all the Bunjie ones on legendary. 4 and 5 I didn't like, but this one is brilliant.

I will never forget the day when I found this channel through a before you buy video. The best part is, the before you buy was about an obscure game that I can’t even remember the title to and yet I loved the before you buy format ever since I stumbled onto it.

[No Spoilers] The repitition isnt as bad this time around since the gameplay is so smooth and a blast. And to kind of explain the open world mission layout, if you love halo and destiny, you will LOVE every second of this.

I don't think there was like a massive stretch I felt like I was feeling like I was playing a chore. This felt adventurous, truly open to creativity (or sandbox), and I for one also did really enjoy the story. So I'll say it's in my top 3 Halo campaigns!

Does This game look and operate decent on the Xbox one X? I haven’t been able to snag a series X yet.

Having played it on a One S, the gameplay was pretty consistently smooth and looked pretty nice overall, with an occasional graphical glitch when it didn't really matter and only one real occasion where there was a noticeable frame drop. Other than those few, it was overall a smooth experience

I've come across a pair of choppers 3 times and I just about cried every time...can't wait for coop

I remember the selling point during the games development was the new enemy we would encounter. Honestly we only ever fight them like twice in the story and you rarely encounter them in the open world. And I mean rarely. You'll probably forget about them rather quickly. Also because they can be dispatched just as easy if not easier than a grunt.

I cant freaking wait. I always felt so restricted by the linear story to halo so this is just what ive always wanted and cant wait

This is my first Halo game and I love it, I don't know if I am going to buy the campaign, $60 is quite the steep price. The multiplayer is awesome, and even though I barely have any problems, I can tell any problems that other people might have are currently being worked on and the game is just getting more and more polished.

All the Halo Campaigns 1-3 Reach and Infinite are top tier... worth every penny

I'm currently playing Halo 4 for the first time via MCC (having played everything before it when it was released). So far I'm only on mission 4, but I've been enjoying it so far. The story is interesting, and the gameplay is pretty good. I'm annoyed about some of the weapons and grenade limitations, but otherwise so far so good. If I want to replay a Halo though, it'll be Halo 3 or ODST.

Its a better game now that we have 5 to compare it too. I still like it, has a great story and writing. Have fun

To me back in the day halo 1 felt so large and vast it almost felt open world you could see were you've battled in the distance or ice pillars down below. After halo 2 that felt to inclosed to me, this is the first halo I've seen thats captured the orginal feel.

@Center 4 Nerds [No spoilers[ I saw a clip of gameplay of the campaign; of someone going to the top of a mountain, and when they reached it. the gregorian chanting started, if infinite can keep that going I think we're good.

The original halo was also a world of wonder and excitement as well. And man the music in halo 2 and the action had me pumped when I was playing through the campaign and I loved the mechanic in 3 but that was the last one I really enjoyed (I did like odst). I'm hoping this one recaptures some of that momentum because this was a franchise I really enjoyed and I don't even remember if I finished the campaign in 5...

I can't remember which halo it was, but I remember going through areas that felt open, other claustrophobic. I hope it has this type of variety. I'm really looking forward to this, then it's Gears 5.

I'll be honest. First, good to see Halo going back to its roots and I think this game will be good. However, pretty disappointed if there are no variety in biomes. All of the Halos (at least the ones that took place on the installations), had unique mission biomes and it is a significant miss if that isn't in this game. Just thought that issue was forgiven and underplayed a little in the gameranx review.

@Michael Kiely it really shouldn’t be payed for. $60 for a campaign and thousands of micro transactions in the multiplayer… but knowing 343 that’s what they’re gonna do anyways

I can see them going the Destiny route and adding more biomes by having more story later. I think they set them selves up so they can release installments like Destiny did.

@Humble 9300 When I say roots, I am referring to the more light-hearted storyline and colorful characters. I agree with the review that the pilot goes a bit too hard on being a coward to the point I roll my eyes, but "new" Cortana's colorful personality really goes back to original Cortana's personality from the early games. Additionally, it is all Master Chief. Halo 5 was 30% Master Chief. It's just the Banished Covenant, not this craziness with robot Prometheans. Not really going with the open world aspect. Obviously it is different. It just feels familiar.

I love the campaign. Halo, Open World, Truly tough encounters on Heroic anyway. Addictive.

I never got around to playing Halo 5. Played all the other ones and enjoyed them. Not a super Halo fan, but definitely looking forward to the campaign after playing the multiplayer for a couple weeks.

I was a little skeptical of the grappling hook, but I ended up using it a lot.

I feel like every vehicle so far feels too fast too light and too flimsy, but other than that I love it

The problem with driving is you cant stabilize yourself in air. In past halos you had slight control over your flip and could even turn over flipped vehicles before you are ejected

I know the game isn't even out yet, but yeah, with the whole Infinite thing, I'm really looking forward to seeing a roadmap. With Xbox being so subscription based now, would it make sense to see Halo content released episodically?

If there is one thing I would love for them to do, even though elites are not playable, the game play know screams for something more, the main objective in the campaign is to take out Banish camps, strongholds and fortresses and coop is going to amplify the experience even more, but what if there was an invasion system, where players would have to defend a Banish stronghold or camp from spartan or marine assaults, calling in reinforcements or setting up turrets to strengthen their defends, this open world is bagging for such a game mode!

As a veteran of gaming for over 25 years I have to thank you Gameranx for the wholesome review. Halo infinite may be slightly better than average at times in today’s gaming market. But being “average” is surely a breath of fresh air.

Go buy Dusk and Ultrakill. Maybe Amid Evil if you really think the original Doom is great. The lack of movement abilities in that one has me just waiting for the VR port.

I played mcc for the first time in a few months after playing only infinite and some vanguard. Wow. Mcc blew me away so much more than I thought. The graphics, atmosphere, everything is so much better in all the mcc games. It sucks bc I wish mcc was the new release not Ibfinitr
