Was hoping you could help me out with one last - Since you were talking about the less-saturated display, in your opinion, does the display hinder the camera aspect at all? I'm specifically looking at this phone for its camera (+ project Fi). Currently I have an HTC1M8, which is ancient in terms of modern tech, but at the time I bought it was the best phone camera on the market. (Yes, I've had it forever, I love it, shush.) I handle several social media accounts involving photos, and often play around with filters or basic photo editing before posting. Do you think it would just require a slight learning curve to not over-saturate things with the Pixel 2 display, or would you recommend getting a different phone altogether?

I've been keeping an eye on Pixel 2 because of how recommended the camera is...but this color space issue is definitely a huge deal, especially if you're considering Adobe Lightroom mobile as an option for touching up photos

After a 2 years of using my Pixel 2, it was a very reliable phone. The only thing I got kind of tired of is the screen size and resolution.

Convinced me to get one and 3 days in I'm loving it so far. Had to have the first one replaced due to a antenna issue but Google we’re great to deal with so I’m still happy.

+Andrew Barber His insight may not be applicable to you btw because displays can be very finicky and vary from customer to customer. Always check your display from time to time so that if anything happens to it, you can still exchange it, if you have it within your warranty period. Good luck dude !

Watching these since I'm going to be getting a new phone, and it came down to this phone and the Note 8. I think I'm going towards the Note 8 because of the headphone jack. I prefer wired ones, and with the Pixel 2 XL not having one is going to be a big loss for me.

I just ordered a black and white 2XL. I’ve used iPhones exclusively since the 3GS and always found it very limited in many ways. Don’t get me wrong, I’m definitely a fan of iOS and iPhones in general but I’m excited to step out of that ecosystem and see what pure android has to offer. A bit of off-axis blue shifting is definitely not a big enough issue to avoid the Pixel in my opinion. There are so many more W’s in its column than there are L’s and if I’m going to sink my teeth into android, I want to experience it in its best form and be the first to receive updates when it inevitably gets better. I considered getting an S8/S8+ for a bit but after seeing how well tuned Google’s software experience is, along with a few other things I liked much more about the Pixel 2XL, it really wasn’t a competition in my mind.

Currently on Iphone 8 but am definitely considering trying out the pixel, it has a really clean and smooth os which reminds me of ios. If next years pixel xl is not plagued with hardware issues I may try it.

I've been using the pixel 2 xl for around 2 years and the screen burning is extremely bad a lot of things start to burn in only minutes of the screen not moving from one thing to an other and is one of the main reasons I'm going to pick up the 4a

I love my google pixel 2 xl. Got every defensive mechanism available to keep it safe.

My Pixel 2 (Regular size) has been one of the best phones I've ever used. Other phones might be prettier looking, have more camera lenses, offer more storage, or has a gimmick with questionable practice use. I prefer the smaller size because it pockets so easily and the camera system using Googles computational photography consistently produces better images than any other phone I've used and I store them on my Google drive space. No need to have a phone with more than 64GB if your all in on the google/android ecosystem. What are the down sides? The phones styling is a bit drab and utiliarian, the twin speakers produce clear detailed music, but does not get that loud, the upper and lower bezels are too big to make room for the speakers reducing screen size a bit. However, the actual experience using this device is so good, that you will be willing to overlook the down sides. It just works.

Hopefully on the next pixel 3. They have at least 256gb. Although they use cloud to backup but I shoot a lot of videos. 64gb doesn't cut it. 😎📸

Love the reviews man but this phone went from oooh to meh the moment you mentioned no headphone jack. I understand companies would want buyers to buy their wireless exclusive stuff or so but they just shouldn't force nor make it a necessity by totally removing a basic function a phone has to have.

I remember back in 2012, 2013 or so, tech reviewers making a huge deal out of poor 'off-axis' or side views of a phones display when the content would get pixelated or just lost when viewed from the sides, and at the time this was a good reason not to recommend some phones. I remember the first Sony Xperia phones, in particular, getting totally hammered for it. MKBHD, you were one of those reviewers, and I don't remember a single tech-head on YouTube saying as long as you look at it on-axis it's not a problem... But you've said that about the Pixel 2's blue-shift, it's fine if you don't view it from the sides. Why..? Why are you giving this phone a pass when in the past you wouldn't let other phones off the hook..?

It is fast ! I bought the phone and I have it one month now ... It is far the best smartphonehone I ever had and I'm pretty sure it's one of the best that are on the market right now !!! I was an apple user. It is fast , it is beautiful , it's light , it takes the best pictures , 4k stunning videos , pictures I upload on my Instagram page many people think that are from a DSLR but it's this god damn phone ! unlimited storage and the best part of it ... It is smart ! It's like my personal assistant with the new Google Assistant and Allo app literally can help me with so many things that sometimes feels like you're talking to a person. I Iove the phone. I really hope it will get the attention it really deserves cause at least in my country the popularity doesn't even know that there is a Google phone made . :) XXX

And on top of that you didn't say that nit picking was bad because "it's just a phone". Thank you very much for explaining the problem, and for really understanding those people who find the pixel expensive but still buy it expecting a perfect phone for his/her personal needs. For some the screen issue is no biggie, for others, it is and someone might not want to drop 800 bucks on an imperfect screen. So kudos to you for explaining it so so well😀

By the ways, I have always thought the design was so nice, and it is totally my type. I did not get the rave of the design of Samsung Galaxy S8 and shiet, cause they look just overly sleek and meek and typical for me. But the google pixel designs are always smooth, simple and clean. It gives this milky effect on setting your eyes upon the thing. Idk why reviewers always state the back of its design as a con, cause that is a PROOOO for me

Currently running my iPhone 6... Been staying relatively up to date with what Apple's been doing. Nothing I've seen so far has rocked my world enough to upgrade, and I'm genuinely impressed with how my iPhone has held up over the years. But I'm getting fed up with the little things. Examples: Instagram suiciding itself whenever I try to use the new features; I don't even use Snapchat anymore because of how slowly it runs; limited storage capacity and I refuse to pay for more cloud storage. After watching no less than 30 videos comparing the best smartphones, I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the Moto G6. At only $250, it will at least serve as a well-performing bridge until one of these phones really sets themselves apart to me. Mr Brownlee, keep slaying the reviews my friend!

I think an underrated aspect of the pixel 2 is the microphone. I'm not sure if I'm just used to having a bad phone, but videos from concerts in the front row a;ways have clear audio and not the speaker breaking blast of other phones I've had in the past. Definitely the best phone I've ever owned, even two years later.

Damnit. I was considering upgrading to pixel 2 xl, because I'm still on the OG and I firmly believe it's not entirely necessary to have the newest version if the previous is still good and will cost less. However, I use my phone A LOT for IG and colours are so important. Going into lightroom and dealing with that mess of not knowing what my edits are going to look like on other people's screens is going to drive me insane. This was so helpful in illustrating that!

For those of you who have got this in the UK, have you bought this on a contract or bought it outright for the handset price? Which option do you recommend? I'm on 3 at the moment.

I look forward to MKBHD reviews. I find they're more practical, less overblown or click-baity. Like with the display, he said it how it is. The color gamut isn't all there and other than prime viewing angles have a blue hue. But he doesn't blow it out of proportion like it's so terrible that everyone shouldn't buy it, like some reviews have. Keep it up! :)

oh please you wouldn't even notice this "grain" in the first place. And even in bed I'm looking directly at my phone. I have a 6P which has a limited viewing angle like MOST smartphones and it has never bothered me.

Scott Kepple not too sure of that. I don't own the phone but I use my phone at night for on average 2-4 hours in bed. Isn't that prime conditions for grain and such? I would imagine a non-trivial amount of people do the same.

Just got one today and my God it's the best phone I've ever used.

Bluetooth headphones are always a thing.. I have like 3 pairs and they're not that more expensive to regular headphones so it not having the headphone jack shouldn't really be an issue.

HTC U11 had the squeeze feature, nobody cared. Now it's loved on the pixel. LG G5 had a layer of polymer on the metal body and everybody hated it. Now it's loved on the pixel. LG (and samsung?) had the small window feature. It was considered bloatware. Now it's cool on the pixel. I love all of these phones but how is this a thing?

I'll trust you on most reviewers calling it a gimmick. I wasn't following the u11 when it came out. But Marques at least did no such thing. He asked "Is this a gimmick?" and then followed up that question with mostly praise for the feature. To connect with my original point, he also notes in this review that the squeeze comes with more intensity levels in the settings on the pixel. This is gonna sound like more of a stretch but there's an interesting psychology to restricting users to a specific feature. It makes it easier to understand and develop a relationship with that feature. "Squeeze activates google assistant quickly". Ironically giving people too much freedom can confuse them. Apple knows this well. And this seemed to resonate with Marques. Obviously power users don't care, like me. For them, the U11 clearly does it better. But power users also wouldn't care too much about the press's opinion.

You could set it to launch the camera, take a picture, take a screenshot, bring up Google Assistant among other things. Google set it up so it could only launch google Assistant. How is it a gimmick on the u11 and not this google phone?

I’ve been switching between iPhone and android for years now. I’ve rocked an se off and on the last 2 years with an xz1 compact and a Palm in between. I’m super stoked to get the pixel 2. Just ordered it the other day. I feel like it will be a solid 2 year contender. Was wanting something smaller though and the razor kept catching my eye, but for 1,500 I think not haha. Was also thinking of the moto z2 force mainly because of the gaming mod but I think the pixel2 will be a solid beater phone with a rhinoshield case. Also thanks for all of your prospective view points on all of your reviews. Been following you for 3-4 years. Keep it up 👍

For people that are sad about the Pixel 2 support ending, with Android 10 and onward, you can get Play System Updates still (sent by Google to every Android 10 device), that contain security updates and bug fixes. You can continue to use your Pixels 2 just fine people

Got hooked up with one in the summer had an original Pixel before. The size difference took some getting used to and some newer features . Its been almost 5 months now with this phone. I love it. Won't be upgrading until it's absolutely unusable.
