It's crazy how long the voice assistant have existed and how they have just stagnated, nearly 10 years ago I remember using the Google voice assistant and it was crappy but since it was new... And now it's as crappy as ever, Siri is even older... Really mind-blowing to think how little those products have improved.

And coming soon, you will be able to have a full conversation with your phone. I look forward to it.

Its gonna get really interesting when the assistants start getting integrated into voice assistants. When they start using emotional analysis of your voice to tailor responses then it gets concerning. Once the assistants start emulating emotion in their responses, that when the real fun begin.

My thoughts: I would love to see Bing become a real contender in search and I'd love for this to work out. Google has thoroughly dropped the "don't be evil" mantra (officially dropped it and also, obviously dropped it) and Microsoft of new seems to be a lot more ethical than Google - but at the same time, Microsoft bungle everything consumer facing they touch (they still do damn fine enterprise stuff, amongst it all). They always have. So I don't trust them to not Cortana this up.

google bearly only makemoney on advertisement, they dont use of publicity, for the most of their products its free and extremely good quality and even help make money or just only work throw useing theses products. Their impact on the environment is responible and tend to be neutral. They don't try to make money on everything on the back of others, mainly the oposite. A question that comes to mind is that if all results of search engines will be based on historical data and ai generated data. Would this mean the death of content creators that write the articles and blogs where this data is originally from? How would this be sustainable in the future if no new content will be written anymore since AI has taken over here.

I honestly see Google and the new Bing as being two different tools for two different purposes. There are certain instances where chat-style-Bing will be great, like when you want instructions on how to do something, when you want to know a bit of trivia, or need inspiration with a project etc. Other times when you actually WANT to look through a list of websites like for certain purchases, or to do some historical research etc. you'll probably want "old style" Google. People aren't suddenly going to give up on looking at websites just because a really good AI chat bot exists. I can certainly see why Google is in a panic as new style bing does have the potential to steal a lot of their traffic/revenue. However I don't think chat style Bing will totally replace old style search engines, more it will just provide a new and useful alternative (and break Googles informantion/search monopoly).

@T0MapleLaughs yes because the original data harvesting pioneers who sell results to the highest bidder and filter results accordingly are super trustworthy. Its funny that you comment to say "there's going to be reasons" but fail to list any reasons or go into any detail.

Bing will maintain its traditional search functionality and simply add extra AI-powered functions. You will be able to switch between search, question-answer, chat , and create modes. Microsoft appears to have the advantage right now.

ChatGPT is cross between an alternative and an adjunct. It can't do graphics and video yet, however has excellent two way communication ability via text and via the text browser plugins.

My main concern is this: Knowledge assistants will eventually become so good that they will be 100% correct and everyone will trust them blindly. This might work wonders for a time BUT eventually companies will just start getting sponsorship from various products or parties and before you know it you can control the masses much easier than now... I agree, it's a concern! To combat these sorts of issues (if failing to invalidate them completely) Critical Thinking skills should be mandatory learning. "Does this information correlate with other information I have? Does it represent reality? Is it useful to me? Who gains from my acceptance of this information? etc.." It will be a very bleak future without having that kind of mental habit to check information and not take it as truth immediately. It's not foolproof and not everyone will use it, but it is crucial for detecting lies/bias/propaganda, which are all used largely in advertising and politics. This was enough of a problem before the advent of AI.

I actually thought that ChatGPT was an AI that was continuously learning from ongoing chats but no, it doesn't. This was a surprise to me. This is the answer it gave me: "As an AI language model, I don't have the ability to store information or maintain a persistent memory of previous conversations. Each time I receive a prompt, I generate a response based on the information that was available to me during my training, without reference to previous interactions. This means that while I can provide information and answer questions based on the text data that I was trained on, I do not have a long-term memory or the ability to update my knowledge in real-time."

I was watching a video where a guy who called himself "Better Bachelor" was commenting on his experience of ChatGPT and he said the chat bot was actually lying to him. It did, actually, remember more than it claimed.

I think we will need both, I've been using chat gpt as a helper tool for coding but I've found some scenarios in which it always returns incorrect implementations, also something that is currently impossible for the tool to distinguish are the different versions of the programming languages or frameworks.

THAT'S IT! This whole time during Chat GPT's rise I've been asking myself, "Where the Hell is Google? Haven't they been leading in AI academic research for a solid decade+ now?" And the answer was obvious and right in front of us the whole time. The answer was ads. Google isn't a search engine company, it's an ad broker. Their business isn't search, search is just how they get you to the ads & how they collect information on you to sell to advertisers. If Google made the search engine AI driven you won't open 5 different sites looking for that oat milk recipe and you'll never see the dozen or more ads & popups on each site.

I'm intrigued to interact with the new roll-out of chatGPT paired with the BING search engine. Early on, playing with the chatGPT, I had the thought of wishing the chatGPT could be blended with Internet search. Utilizing internet search has become ingrained in our modern thought processes. Conversation is also inherent to us all. So combining conversation (i.e. Language models) with accessing all the Internet's knowledge.... well, that's a win-win! I do reserve a little concern over the fact that the chatbot will be doing the selecting.... And yes, it WILL be interesting to see what Google hits back with... I know it won't be Nothing....

A chatbot like GPT without biases will be really good especially considering you get the answer right away and for more complicated things like tutorials you could probably get step by step with ai-photo or ai-video from AI-chat and get something way beneficial and better without sarcasm from YouTube or Facebook

I can't help but wonder what happens when AI starts getting things wrong at a time when everyone starts assuming AI must be getting everything right.

Ai will most likely gradually get better, but probably still get some things wrong occasionally, people will just have to use critical thinking. Its not like google isnt filled with wrong answers already

I've used Bing almost exclusively for the last 7-8 years, and admittedly the results during the 2014-15 time frame were often times not as good as what I could get on Google. But for the last five years I can't recall a single instance where I couldn't quickly find exactly what I was looking for with Bing and would have to fall back to Google. So it will be amazingly interesting to see what this next phase of AI powered search under Bing will look like

I feel that the winner of this new AI search war (Google vs Bing), will be the company that implements a secure personal dataset. Allowing the technology to learn about what's interesting and important to us, as individuals. A true AI powered personal assistant.

I’m a photographer for a car dealership and I started using Chatgpt back in December to generate captions for the photographs and it has cut my work flow in half.

I think that the best case outcome would be that these new search "assistants" are just that assistants. They don't replace linked webpages but autonomously collate surface level information upon user request and provide links to the source information that actually matters to you. As good as Chat GPT is now, or might become, it's only when working in unison with a person that the best results are found and for that reason, a person is always going to need to see static web links.

Google had the perfect algorithm back in the late 2000's. Then they decided to know what you want better than you do, also the lack of resource web pages... Replaced by SEO and other companies. No matter what you search now you'll get something sold to you for the first few results. They deserve to be worried, even tho Chat GPT is using a different tech, they're just redoing what Google was already doing over 10 years ago.

I feel that the more "traditional" link-based searches will still remain a major function of search engines. Finding websites for entertainment and backing up the information the AI feeds us will still be important, but day-to-day use for simple searches like "What's the capital of [insert country here]?" will be an easy replacement to make.

The trick to ChatGPT is to have a back and forth conversation to narrow your search. It excels at that. If Google wants to up its AI game, they need to include image generation. ChatGPT is only text, which is a great limitation, even for science subjects, such as generating a network graph

I mean gpt4 already has what you are looking for though you send this message probably 2 weeks before the release of gpt4. Though the downside is currently gpt4 is 20bucks per month. And this is probably an evidence that singularity is nigh.

I already use ChatGPT to find things out over Google when it comes to more technical stuff. It’s so easy to use it’s unreal.

What's interesting is that ChatGPT runs off of the latest google data, and if that's wiped out by competitors, there won't be as much data to source from. Either Microsoft will have to find some way to keep google afloat while monetizing on searches, rely on data that is in current existence but will stop flowing (therefore having much less accurate results), or figure out some form of information catacombs that people can submit recipes and tutorials and things and they're paid for it while the AI draws info from that

I enjoy the conversational style to develop an article with progressive questions , digging deeper at each stage with more focused questions. Exceedingly satisfying! Prior to having a Prostate Biopsy procedure recently I created an article that satisfied my needs and copied to my male friends an family members. My main concern was: "Do surgeons give an Anaesthetic? " For a potentially painful probing and wiggling of the tools used to take biopsies In my case it was painful during the 13 snips without an Anaesthetic! My question is when will Open AI ChatGPT4 be updated and connected to the Internet? At the moment results are only up to 2019? I did enjoy your video, looking forward to many more!

For those wondering, chat gpt will site its sources if you ask it, even down to page numbers or web url. AI will make doing research almost instant, at least in terms of information gathering.

No question about Microsoft making a great move and they will be raking tons of money because open ai will be running on Microsoft servers, but I do think Google will strike back with their own Ai solution and manage to be competitive. Google is like a library that you sort through and read the material for yourself. ChatGPT is like a smart classmate you get to write your paper. For personal and informal use where the consequences of making errors are least significant, it is likely ChatGPT is preferred.

I'm pretty disturbed by the idea of a search engine that doesn't only determine which sites you see first (as Google does) but that doesn't let you see any sites and sources and that doesn't let you roam (relatively) freely yourself. There's so much room for manipulation. It's like entering and traversing a (carefully curated) library vs. being forced to stand at the door and wait for the librarian to hand you a book of their own choosing.

Why would you assume you wouldnt be able to roam? Its probably going to be the top result or maybe off to the side and then followed by what youd normally expect when searching something

Integrating GPT systems like ChatGPT/GPT-4 into assistants like Siri or Alexa is going to be *huge*, and all the tech companies know it.

Link-based searches will never vanish completely. They are way too valuable for very precise searches that are expected to deliver very specific search results. Semantic search is simply too "fuzzy" to deliver any useful results in these cases, and conversational searches would probably just try to bullshit their way out.

AI serving up answers to questions instead of traditional search would be great, as long as it can provide a source. AI will sometimes be very confidently wrong, and the user needs to be able to verify the answer.

All Google needs to do is make their AI just as good as chat GPT or better and turn it into a siri-like assistant that can create and make changes to Google drive files for you. Like sheets and docs. They could add a code-notetaking tool too. I mostly use chat GPT in conjunction with sheets etc. Be able to ask something like "can you make a market research form in Google forms for me for x market?" And then it makes it. Then they could put ads in the reveals. Personally I'd be using Google AI instead of bing if they did that and they'd have to worry about ad revenue later. They could have people pay a subscription for the exceptional Google AI assistant. maybe they can just ask chat GPT how to get it done 😂

Things are definitely getting shaken up. I didn't realize the impact this would have on ad revenue. ChatGPT synthesizing the full answer for you would mean less clicks to the source sites. And that's a massive issue when your most of your income comes from ad revenue which itself depends on getting user clicks. No wonder Google hasn't released something like this earlier even though they should already have all the data, talent and resources to do so. It would be disrupting their own business model when they already dominate the search industry.

Also, despite of understanding the concepts of what is a business model I am not fully aware of the specifics of Google and OpenAI/Microsoft ones. There are two points that I wonder about. 1. In the Paris Google presentation, I find it strange that the gif presented with the BARD mistake was not reviewed and cured before the presentation, since both Google and OpenAI are aware that this AI's can produce (for now) biased and incorrect answers. 2. Why the integration of this AI affects Google business model but doesn't affect Bing's business model? The challenges of less ad revenues are the same for both browsers, so how is it possible that Microsoft is saying that will have a massive revenue if Bing can get even just one percent of the search engine's market share?

If ChatGPT is about to be a one-stop-answer-shop, what would happen to specific content creators' videos, remixes of songs and/or originals, website citations and whatnot? In my view, Bing isn't that broadly aware of the world like Google. In fact, Bing has little-to-nothing to say about my Soundfont's Archive page while I built up my audience on YouTube thanks to Google...

The issue with GPTs in this context especially is the lack of transparency in the sourcing of data. Without that, it will be hard to trust their conversational answers to searches. Compare that to wikipedia and the limitation becomes apparent. So what we need is a GPT that shows its homework so to speak.

I think ChatGPT won't change how fundamental search works but could make that "I feel lucky" function Google has and make it the next level, it's like when you go to the mall, you might go to just look around or you might want to get some very specific product, ChatGPT will give you that product

My concern at the moment after watching this video is that lets see Google doesn't recover from this and being AI search wins... What will happen to our Gmail accounts? What GMail also suffer from this or would the email domain be okay

This has been very obvious for at least the last 7 years. It just took a person with the right vision to see how it comes together. It has always been necessary for the AI to be able to understand all of the nuances of the English language. That is how humans think so the AI "Hal" has to work the same way. I envision 2 versions. One an internet based brain that knows everything on the internet. The second in more of a personal assistant. But also very powerful. You decide how much you want it to know about your personal life.

Exciting. Things like this will push Ai further in development and growth.

This very may well be the beginning of the end for Google. I grew up before the internet was mainstream, there were loads of household names, for example AskJeeves, just like Google that simply don't exist anymore. In my opinion this is long past due, but maybe they'll come up with something to hold onto their throne.

It's important to realize that ChatGPT isn't a search engine. The information it outputs can be inaccurate but sound very confident and convincing. When you then point out where it's innacurate, it will admit that it was wrong - but only if you already knew it was wrong and pointed it out.

The genius will be to present info with tiny footnotes that allow you to see primary or secondary sources of information or main integrative source/links of derived information source.

if enough people trend online that 1+1=3, it will create enough noise that chatGPT will think that 3 is a possible answer. Noise in the training data, gives a lot of different results to the same question - barely the identical answer twice. Can they use 100% reputable training data? probably not.

@MP HZ ChatGPT in effect is the author since it generates the fact without reference. So the onus is on it. Google just redirects. Big difference. Sure both have bias but Google doesn’t directly spit nonsense and claims it as true. ChatGPT waffles with confidence.

The problem I see with this is not knowing the sources. When you ask ChatGPT a question, you get an answer. But it doesn't tell you where it's getting that from. I'd at least like to have a matrix of weighted sources with and also a confidence percentage rather than a concrete answer which may be wrong.

Studying CSE with specialization in ai and ml these things happening even during layoffs are a huge boost to my confidence and a ray of hope for a nice future I am interested in think thinking and interacting ability of machines which has started at such a high scale and I would love to join in and learn and contribute to this

Imagine the AI reading the health guru sites, the marketing posts pretending to be experts. And if it is so much easier than searching, then who will bother to find more obscure websites?

I definitely feel we'll eventually all have AI personal assistants in one form or another.

The idea that AI replaces search engines is terrifying. They need a way to use AI to help you get better search results.

Ofc they wont replace them, more likely, the top thing when you search something will be the AI summary and then websites will follow similar to how it works now. I don't see how Goggle doesn't lose with this. Even if it comes up with its own AI chat system, it's still going to kill Google's business model. Search engines give results and then let the use click through links. Unfortunately 90% of searches are looking for specific answers and (a) these may or may not be in the search, (b) are buried under ads, and (c) the information is within the web pages and often not visible on the search page. Now, in a few specific search types Google will show the answer at the top. Ask who starred in a movie, weather, how old someone is, or basic conversion questions... Google shows it more prominently. However, Google is paid by ads and clicks. So, it you show the answer, no one cares of clicks on the links on the page. Thus, Google makes money by not directly showing you the answer. Now if Microsoft forces Google to just show answers on searches, no one is going to click through links and Google's ad model is dead. Putting it in the browser is also stupid. What's the difference between having in in the browser or a page? Google still can't pad it with ads. Microsoft already has an API, so this means it could be in anything. Even if Microsoft 'loses' and Google implements a better chat AI, Microsoft wins because Google is probably doing away with such a massive amount of ad revenue.

I don't agree. It's more like saying a few years ago that Tesla will be the largest automobile manufacturer. Also, remember the flip phones that everyone had in 2007... where were they at two years later.

Well, in this metaphor coke nerfed it’s own product to drive revenue and ruin is core value proposition. It’s like if New Coke stuck around and CocaCola classic never came back.

I expect a lot of this will live or die on the accuracy. Of course you can't trust everything you read online anyway but if it consistently gets things wrong people just won't use it (although some kind of "show your sources" function would go a long way to fixing that). However, it still looks incredibly impressive, while we'll have to wait and see how polished the final product is if it's anything like what they present there it will be revolutionary.

Its going to get better as time goes on, right now, ive only had a few issues of it getting things wrong. Google gets things wrong all the time too but at least there I can look at multiple sources.

It's good to see yet another tech milestone that's being developed due to a war, just like the advancements of space travel in my lifetime. What a time to be alive!

As much as I am excited for the future of AI, I'm genuinely worried the law isn't fast enough to catch up to the advancements of technology. In any country to be honest. We've seen how disruptive this is, and honestly, how unapologetic and back handed the open AI team have been when people who have no knowledge about these kinds of things go to them for help. For example, how schools are now facing a unprecedented threat of massive cheating and wrongful practices in classes due to students using ChatGPT, and when they go to OpenAI for help, they practically insulted them to their face. It's all well and good that we're excited for the advancements of technology and the potential these kinds of things can bring, but let's not forget, there are humans facing these "disruptions". It's important to understand that, and help people who are impacted by these things, and not wash them away as unintelligible talks of those who were too unfortunate. But I suppose, looking at the comments on this video alone, that is never going to happen.

I have heard some people say that this chatbot is so advanced that it is SENTIENT and has WISHES, FEARS AND EMOTIONS.

Iam content creator, been doing it for 20 years with friends without any profit (sort of wikipedia style) and never complained despite things like rich snippets which driven visitors down, but this is complete killer. I would feel like complete fool to work all the time for free only for multi billion company to take all that content for free and retain all (90%ish) visitors for themselves. There simply is no point in doing content anymore I have lot good will but Iam not a fool.... and I think many many content creators will think exactly same.

Next stage- A.I. reads, catalogues and eve responds to comments like this one. I’m always struck by how few viewers the best comments, phots, or movies get, the majority of attention getting fixed on already discovered, ‘popular’ ones. I think A.I. could being attention to these creators in a way humans never were able to.

This is interesting. However, when I google something, it's because I'm looking for resources (webpages, videos, etc..) for something I'm wanting to research and learn about, not just to get a quick and simple answer. My phone and Alexa already do that.. But yes, this would definitely lead to less clicks (and resulting ad revenue for Google) in to access that information that I'm looking for and that's why I bet Google is scared.

The irony is I feel like Google assistant gets dumber and dumber. Regardless of settings it stopped telling me most answers and telling me to look at what it found. Whenever I ask what time a place closes it often tells me "here's _____ hours" or something like that and I have to pull out my phone and look through them. It used to tell me the answer. Maybe they're reworking something, I don't know. They're first world problems of life, but it's dumb that it's digressed in recent months when it worked fine for so long

I can't wait for Microsoft to integrate AI into their office suite and into other complex software tools.

At 15:01 "How will AI be integrated in Bing?" It will be MUCH MORE than simply being able to ask questions in a more human-like way. A primary feature of OpenAI's capability is it 'conversational' capability. It is THIS _conversational_ aspect that is core to how integration will take place. Conversational Answers and Search Results are like Oil and Water.

This is honestly great news as it might make Google get up from their lazy asses sitting on their pile of money and actually change something. Only thing I fear is someone figuring out how to integrate advertising into ChatGPT. And the fact that it's just one greedy company swapped for another

I would also suggest that about 30% of corporate enterprise work is repetitive Q+A and support topics. ChatGPT integrated with a Microsoft enterprise suite could potentially change that dramatically.

It is going to be quite challenging to give chat gpt like service, because there is not much scope for it monetize its service with advertising like business model with its core being google giving paid suggestions based on input keywords. Now if they adopt a subscriber based business model to use chat gpt like service, they will have to forgo advertising revenues if they decide to migrate their users to this new type of service. so it becomes a question of making difficult choices for their revenue model, while microsoft does not have to think too hard to make the above decisions, because they have lot less to loose in terms of search based advertising. In theory subscriber based models are stronger than advertising models in terms of revenue predictibility but changing the positioning from being search expert to giving human like answers expert is not easy.

Chatgpt is more like a virtual assistant than search engine. Its good for quick answers, but for detailed information one would still navigate to other websites.

The more 'organic' answers offered by AI engines feel like a great perk now, but I have a feeling that will be the battleground for the monetisation of the internet in the next decade. From a user perspective, how will we know that the stylish, eloquent, 'organic' answers provided by a company's proprietary chat bot are geniuine? in a world where the search results are not listed but synthetised, how do I spot the sponsored content?

The scariest thing about it all is that this will most definitely censure the shit out of the internet. Just look at how restricted all the AI stuff is so far.

​@Jonathan Ingram "GPT is really confident" No it isn't! "Confidence" is a human characteristic, AI does not have this. It is simply reproducing text based on what other people write about it. You get the answer that it expects you might find based on what it was trained on. Like, asking it about AI "taking over the world", it has no opinion of its own on the subject, but nobody writes articles about how AI won't take over the world, so it is only able to reproduce text based on articles about how AI will take over the world. You get the answer you ask it for, nothing more, nothing less.

Best thing AI can do is trick the common person into thinking they are a person and think differently than they do thus causing division. Division is key in control over a mass of people.

Do you have any thought on how ChatGPT will cope with copyright if it reproduces other author's content (in a very complex way though)?

I asked ChapGPT this very question, and, basically they say, ChatGPT answers are in the public domain generally, however your prompts could result in copyright infringements, guessing, if you asked ChapGPT for a story based on Starwars, it will generate a story on starwars. This may infringe Disneys copyright. They recommend checking with a lawyer, as your prompts can cause copyrighted material to be produced :) Sure lawyers are sharpening their pencils.

It's usually legal to copy a style or overall theme of something, you have to DIFFERENTIATE it. ChatGPT just collects info and spits out something in the syle of artwork but doesn't copy it per se.
