@Deevizm closer to the ball means you’re bigger and the shooter has more room to miss. Just like it’s harder to look around a brick wall the closer you are. Keepers have already decided where to dive right as they hit the ball

I used to be a goalkeeper and a penalty specialist, meaning I saved more than 50% of penalties thrown at me. In one game I saved 3 out of 4. These are mindgames you do with the opposing player. In their mind, by the time they walk up to the ball, they have an idea on what they will do. You want to make them question the decision and even influence them (showing you will go left for example). This will make them change their mind and be nervous. It will make them miss, take a poor penalty or simply shoot where you want them to shoot. Penalties are not saved, they are missed as the player has over 70% chance of scoring on average. All you are doing with these mindgames is lower his odds and usually works. As a goalkeeper you have to have the stronger mentality and confidenec than your opposition. That's why it doesn't work on some players at all. You can do whatever you want, they will still take the penalty the way they wanted it and then it's simply down to the keepers ability to guess correctly. A correctly executed penalty with enough power and precision is impossible to save, even if you guess the corner.

I waited for the part where you said "it doesn't work on some players" because professional setpiece specialists are never puzzled by shenanigans.

La regla de adelantarse es algo reciente, si los clips son viejos (que por calidad y jugadores yo creería que si) entonces esa regla aún no existía, no se pedía ni un pie en la linea ni similares.
