I'll say no. I recently graduated and received my BA in Business Administration with a concentration in HR Management this summer. Now, I was really aggressive with my education and career. I didn't wait to graduate from school and then attempt to gain work experience. I worked full time and went to school full time. I ensured that the positions I worked in had transferable skills to eventually lead to me becoming an HR Generalist, with a great HR team. Make sure you always plan ahead, join SHRM as a student member and you'll be able to develop great friendships during your journey. My biggest advantage is I'm bilingual in Spanish and I'm still growing the rest. Overall, you need to make sure this is the right fit for you and you need to know what your advantages are against your competition.

Thank you for your experience! I am glad they got you into HR! :) I kinda skipped everywhere and want to be a HR business partner, yet alot of times they require a hr certificate. The places you applied at was this a qualification? I went into HR in this order: office coordinator, hr assistant, hr coordinator, employee relations specialist/business operations (2 years) (yes, this was a duel role!!! :-*) Any suggestions on how I can land a HR business partner job? Any other tips (such as resume assistance site(s))? Thank you so much!!

I know you've uploaded this video a while back but I'll try my luck. Do you believe it is ideal to move to a HR Business partner role from a HR admin/generalist role with only 2 years of experience? Also did you find it hard to manager the HRBP role as a young adult?

Omg. I felt like you were telling my story. It’s great to see you have the same passion and love for HR as I do. Our Vision is also the same. At the moment, I’m at the part after getting the work experience trying to secure a full time admin position. I hope it plays as yours. 😁 Thanks for sharing.

Omggg Great videos and very helpful!!!🤗 So I'm also trying to get into HR. I never worked in the HR department, but I worked with HR managers on different projects and with payroll, deletions, onboarding new hires, and a few other task. I have all of this on my resume but like you, I'm not receiving any calls at all! I do not wanna be a recruiter I only wanna handle Admin Support work for HR. What would be the best entry level position to apply for HR Assistant? Do you think I can go far only being an admin in HR? If so, how far do you think I can go? I like working behind the scenes handling paperwork rather than on the fore front. So I wanna advance as far as I can just not to as a recruiter or handling orientations and all that.

I started my journey into HR by having some kind of office coordinator or office manager experience. My first title into HR was a HR assistant.

Females now control the majority of HR department in most companies, why?

Vor year

littlegayfairy it’s probably because HR is dominated by women to be fair.

Hi Moira. I know the department managers at your company and they believe you're a typical third wave feminist who is a waste of company payroll. You're tolerated because the need to hire females as token...to bring in more females for company publicity stunt. Most HR positions are a waste of money.

Hi Moira's Corner. Most smart and perceptive Fortune 500 CEOs realize that HR business partners are simply snake oil salesperson working in HR to add more bureaucracy to the HR system and to increase the budget for HR. These CEOs tolerate these fake HR practices for the sake of political correctness, just like tolerating the third wave feminists.  You want a true and effective HR Business Partner? Hire an Employment Lawyer with a Master's degree in Personnel with analytics background to run a hotline for Managers to call for Personnel questions. Lastly, change the name of the HR dept back to the Personnel dept.

The best thing with HR is work experience. Having the degree is good and desirable but the most important thing is exprience. If you are finding it difficult to find experience, consider volunteering for a few hours per week. It will look good on your cv.

Great videos, keep them coming. Quick Q... I'm a stay at home mum and thinking of getting a CIPD for future back up. Would there be any point doing it now without the work experience... Would I be told my certificate is worthless after a year or so? Or Can I just be thrown in to the mix and work my way up :/

Vor 3 years
Moira's Corner
Moira's Corner

Honestly its hard to say what the right thing is. Some employers care more about work experience than qualifications and others care for CIPD experience. I would say go for it, if thats what you want to you, getting experience is about getting your foot through the door. Once you have your qualification in the bag, you can apply for roles. I volunteered for a few weeks and that helped me get my first job. The most important thing is about selling yourself on your CV.

Love this!! I'll make sure I get some HR specific work experience next year (I will be doing my MSc full-time). Love this business function, its such an essential part of running a good organisation and there's so much involved, I don't think I will get bored easily. But we'll see haha. I definitely want to do consultancy in the future as well x
