@jose fernandez well in the original lore the crown ties him to the fate of runeterra and the aspects as well as giving them some slight control over his actions. when one aspect died as collateral from battle with some cosmic abomination an entire galaxy was wiped out of existence, not sure when it became a leash on his powers. long and short is he doesn't care about runeterra and all his other creations are being held hostage to keep him in line.

He did not know who had created this world, or why—only that it had not been him." He made Runeterra's sun, but not Runeterra. Runeterra was likely made by the Aspects and lorded over by them.

I actually LOVE the idea that the old Aurelion sol was him during Targons Imprisonment and now hes being unleashed THAT is an epic way to weave a rework into cannon at the same time I love that

You're just applying typical fantasy logic where you don't actually know if it applies or not. Aurelion's crown is fueled by the aspects and celestials, several beings that come close to Aurelion's power level, two of which being Zoe and Bard who are each almost at Aurelion's level by themselves. It was made by humans, yes, but not alone.

@Gamer Gamerson in greek mythology uranus and gaia created earth and are the 2 primordial beings not the titans. Those two especially uranus are considered powerful beyond the gods or even the Titans grasp . If you want to make the comparison between greek mythology and aurelion you are proving the exact opposite. Containing something bigger than the size of a planet even without aurelion power is impossible. Not even to mention that his power is the power that created the universe. So if riot doesn't come with a very very good late excuse on why that happened his story its just a quick and stupid way to make us able to play with a true god

@Evan Garnier the Targonian Aspects are treated as deities and gods, they are the spiritual incarnations of entire concepts such as war, and while there are normal humans living upon Mount Targon those weren't the ones to ensnare Asol to my knowledge, it was explicitly that aspects who made the crown and the aspect of twilight who tricked him into wearing it by presenting it as a gift.

@Evan Garnier It could only be ridiculous from a modern fantasy perspective. If you examine ancient religions you will often find examples of certain gods being "imprisoned" or killed. Obvious example is of course loki but even closer examples are found in other myths. For example certain variations of the titans vs god war in Greek mythology. Where the gods (akin to Leagues Aspects) won and imprissoned the titans in Tartaros. Remember that it was the Titans that had created much of the universe as well.

I love how they use the same chord progression or basic soundtrack as the original asol champ teaser, but its like sped up, or more energized. Its more epic. So fitting

I absolutely _love_ how they turn his rework into lore! Targon losing their hold on him has allowed him to gain more power, and thus, greater abilities that could even affect the entire Rift.

This trailer gave me some good chills. This rework really does capture the immenseness and arrogance of a character on cosmic level. The "I shall be unleashed" part at 1:02 is epic. A deserving end to the trailer and decent animation to express an "unleash" on the summoners rift map. I love this.

This is crazy, I started playing League when Asol was released and remember hearing his theme every single time on log in. And now hearing it again and witnessing his updated kit, is just so crazy cus that was years ago.

@Vērglas i dont think the mythic crown item in shop is the same one asol wears.. the item is named crown of the shattered queen and it doesn't look like the one asol wears. in game crown has a green gem in the middle while the one sol has no gem.. i believe his crown is the gold "horns" since it is unlike the rest of his body being made of stars. The in game mythic crown, seems to be Isolde's crown according to quick google search

@K E N S H I R O  As far as I remember, there was a time when Aurelion was praised and glorified by the people of targon(please correct me). They always give something to him as an offering. Aurelion loved it so much that he lets his guard down and until one day, people decided to control him through an artifact(please correct me, again). An artifact in a shape of a crown. Aspects gave it to him and he gladly wore it without knowing the true intentions of the mortals. And as far as I remember, the old Pantheon(not atreus) was the aspect who's responsible of guarding it so it won't break or it won't wore off from him. After Aatrox killed the Aspect of War(Old Pantheon), the crown is slowly breaking, giving Aurelion a little space to breath. Zoe is now the one who's guarding him. And if I'm correct, the crown which aurelion have, is that one mythic crown item for mages in game.

I love that line. "What's the matter Targon? Losing your grip?" Amazing considering his lore. Seeing how Targon fooled him into wearing a crown, which bound him to Mount Targon himself, allowing the Targonians to wield his star shaping powers for themselves. Now that he was be reworked, the crown's power is weakening, allowing him to regain some of his former glory. My headcanon anyway.

After the actual Pantheon was killed by Aatrox, Sol has been slowly regaining his power since Pantheon was responsible for keeping him chained

It seemed like it was setting up for Pantheon to be going after the Aspects, and who better to destroy them alongside him than the cosmic entity they imprisoned for millenia? Or just in general it would be cool to see some loose ends from that cinematic tied up. Based on the most recent Riot Devs vid tho I feel like it'll be a long while before we get anything like that

I love how the last line implies that the old Aurelion Sol was still bound to Targon and couldn't release more power than that. But now Targon begins to loose it's grip and he can summon more of his celestial power in the rift.

I’ve been playing Asol recently because I know I will miss the stars. But comparing him to the new rework, i can feel the unstoppable cosmic dragon in the game play, rather than just standing there afk while your passive does the damage.

The way they showed the Sundisc being inactive, as they are no longer able to funnel his power through it. That was an awesome detail.

I always wondered what they were going to do with his lines, with all the changes in his kit. God, I didn't think they would do this. CGUs are truly the greatest thing ever- They completely preserve the character's identity while giving them new kits. If only Yorick, Poppy, Galio, and Aatrox got this kind of treatment. Skarner too. Sigh.

It's insane how big the gap in power is between Aurelion sol and every other champion in runeterra (in lore)

It's like they are pointing a loaded gun at his children and saying you can kill us, but how many of your babies are you willing to lose before you wipe us out? A Sol can wait an eternity for that crown to break and kill the Targonians, but he's like "Not the children", so he just waits patiently for his moment.

Never had I ever been proud of such Champion Skill Rework Update. Now I wonder how skills would have been updated if Riot explored the original concept of his ult he had during his time as Ao Shin. Would have been interesting to see him turn into a Space Tornado.

Aurelion flying over the Sun Disc feels so symbolic. The Ascended received their power from the Disc, which channels a fraction of the Star Forger's power into them. The sight of the Celestial Dragon so big (and yet so small) above Shurima's godwarriors' birthplace shows just how insignificant they are in the face of their "father". The crack on His crown also makes me wonder if we will ever see Him without it.

@Zergling honestly, outside of the physical form in the reality, they cannot interact with A-Sol or other beings from reality, so they will always be limited by their physical form, because they have no form otherwise. They're highly intelligent creatures but that's it, they've been conscious for as long as the universe has existed cuz that's when they woke up, but they're outside the universe and since they had no self-consciousness before that, you could almost say they were born the same time the universe was born, cuz their existence was meaningless before that, because until they saw the light of the universe, they didn't function at all, or at least that's what we know for now

My favorite part of the trailer is when he says "true power is only found in the cosmos" as he is over Shurima where they ascended to become gods with unimaginative power, where he is saying that even with their godlike powers, it is pale in comparison to his. Also love that when he is asking if targon is losing their grip. You can see that his crown has a crack in it. You can see it as a line of a different shade of gold is going across the crown's front

@Atla I feel like I'm constantly hearing people talk about every iota and nuanced detail about the way every small thing in every scene is representative of a large story element and how interwoven the visual storytelling is with the overall plot. Since so many are waiting for Season 2 they've run out of things to notice after re watching it dozens of times so it's become the most trivial things. I remember the first time I watched the very 1st Aurelion teaser/trailer. That was peak League and absolutely legendary. Watching this brought back so much of those feels and hype even though I barely play League anymore. The VA of Aurelion is simply phenomenal and brings his entire kit and personality to absolute super nova heights

ASol is so great, they had to release him twice. This rework is great for storytelling too. He's getting stronger cause Targon doesn't control him as much.
