thoughts on the nerf: 1) It's not... ideal, but you can work around it as Caustic. You'd have to place your traps further back from a doorway sort of like a wattson would with her abilities. 2) the ult is way more valuable now (carry accelerants!) 3) you can take advantage of people wasting ammo in their mag on the trap, but I wouldnt say it's a reliable "opener" to count on against better players

Here’s what I think they should’ve done with the caustic trap: What we are going to do? Make it “breakable”. Ok what makes sense? Since it is like a balloon every shot you hit on it it should intensify the gas concentration and it does more damage and the durability of it goes down after each shot it takes. And after the trap is destroyed it leaves the gas cloud behind that has a decreasing damage. And after X time it completely dissipates. This way it makes sense and makes logical sense as well.

@BMX!!! Makes total sense. higher damage output tied to the HP of the barrel incentivises going around. This forces caustic' defensive play style to actually defend, like with Watson's fences making people go around them instead of straight through.

Ok but balance wise that doesn’t make sense

From my experience with maining caustic, his passive doesn’t work sometimes, and can be unreliable. Personally feel like an underwhelming perk. I would like a rework for his passive Gas trap: atm not ideal, you have to really hide it around corners like Kandy said and put it out of the way, this it gets triggered less and becomes less viable. Although I’m not completely against the change, I feel it should do a bit more damage now that it can be either be disabled or broken somewhat easily. Ultimate is fine as is, sometimes on rare occasions the ult when hits certain surfaces doesn’t go off and becomes a wasted ult. this however has only become a random occurrence. But in all honesty devs COME ON he’s one of the lower picked characters if your gonna nerf him make him more desirable in other ways, currently he’s way too situational and the devs should aim to achieve more versatility. As this is something we caustic mains desire.

I would be slightly upset if I was a caustic main but tbh i've fought quite a few caustics since the nerf and he is still pretty damn effective lol

All they need to do to balance it is make his animation faster for putting down traps. Even a fraction of a second would balance this.

I found this nerf to sometimes work in my favour, because people will try to destroy the traps instead of just running through them or running away. Wasting ammo and attention, when i can just peek and shoot them while they are busy with my trap. I probably wouldn't mind the trap having less hp, if only they made his passive better. Like maybe highlight the enemies inside the gas, even when you are not in the gas yourself. Because often the gas works as a bangalore smoke for youself when you are further away.

This nerf is overboard, they need to make his gas trap deploy time faster.

You can still block doors and players have to physically turn their attention. He seems to still be good Ah have that flaw that all legends have (valk vulnerable while flying, wraith’s charge time for portal). I think this nerf really just raises the skill ceiling for caustic.

If a door is caustic trapped though you can still just throw a nade which will damage the trap as well making it super easy to destroy. Caustic un-nerfed was a bit strong when confined to close spaces due to the fact a trap could go off and completly shut down a push for too long without attackers being able to counter without abilities. Would have been nice to see a bit of a rework for him rather than a straight up nerf as he isn't good when you need to rotate for zone and his pick rate wasn't super high. Think he needs more of a passive or a bit more health on traps or that attackers can't disable them by shooting the base as 3 people shooting a trap or 1 grenade makes his setups way less useful at higher levels.

Literally won a game after watching this video with caustic (my main) he def is different but again something about watching people suffer in the gas is euphoric

As a rampart main I understand the feeling of having a destructible defense. However having 150 is way more than enough during a fight that someone might not want to turn their back for THAT long to shoot a gas can. I wish ramparts walls had some sort of health buff so she could be used above Diamond rank.

If I was going to change something about the nerf it would be that the gas lingers longer after the trap is destroyed, visually the gas lingers for about 8 seconds but the damage only persists for 2 after the trap is destroyed. Fix that and I think the nerf doesn’t hit nearly as hard, frankly it’s not that bad imo anyway.

I agree with you about Caustic getting this nerf that now allows it to be defended so easily. The only thing that caustic has is his Gas that is all. Most legends have a few different things or at least a lot of movement ability to do it. Caustic only has gas. Either give caustic 9 traps now since they can be broken

i love watching kandy grind ranked again it reminds me of his old road to apex predator series that got me into ranked when i started playing again

I think a cool buff that could be lore friendly is something along the lines of “caustic made advancements in his gas that allows it to be set on fire by thermites or fuse’s mother lode” , I’m thinking scorch titanfall 2

If the traps become incendiary that would be pretty useful as some splash damage, but wouldn't that just be a pool of thermite? The damage and effects of traps are fairly decent at the moment, do lmk what your idea is here. I'm intrigued!

They have no idea how to balance a game despite years of doing so. They've destroyed caustics kit and changed it back like 5 different times and I feel that this will be yet another instance. Like there should have been ANY form of compromise to make the gas a bit stronger since you can just easily destroy them now. They're pretty much only useful if you're right next to the gas and the enemy has to decide between shooting you or the gas.

They created a way to fight caustic which is great. Caustic was always annoying to fight against if you aren't a caustic

Game's aren't easy to balance. I don't think I've ever seen a dev team balance out a team game perfectly. All of the big games, CS, Valo, LoL, Fortnite, etc. have had major reworks and balance changes and still suffer from unbalanced weapons, characters, and maps. Also the traps aren't THAT easy to destroy. I mean they take 150 damage to break if they are releasing gas and still leave some for about 2 seconds.

Idk, I feel like this nerf didnt really do anything apart from possibly effect his ability to not die in a 1v10 by cornering themselves in a building. I haven’t seen people shooting caustic traps too much, not to mention it’s not really that effective, u could waste a whole 2 seconds destroying a gas trap then waiting another 2 seconds waiting for the gas lingering to stop. I might be wrong and this is a much bigger deal than I think but I feel like most competent caustic players can punish players for wasting an entire mag and maybe 4 or 5 seconds destroying a trap, compared to wattsons Q which take 1 bullet, it still seems a lot stronger

What if the Caustic Ult covered the ground in sludge so that enemies are slowed in the aoe. Smaller, but deadlier aoe.

They should make the trap cool down shorter or they should make it so when one is destroyed you instantly have the cool down of the traps reset

I don't think I've ever been 3rd partied so hard constantly till this season, I have to play him more to ward them off or buy time because most of times my teammates are barely making it through our fight with first squad.

That rampage @ 7:04 kill was epic . It's hard to hit with other guns that has high rof. Rampage and spitfire are excellent for valk ult targets.

Respawn is not good at making every character balanced, and it really shows when they nerf caustic every season and refuse to give characters like crypto and rampart decent buffs

Honestly, Respawn has no idea what they're doing now. Only logical thing that explains it would be all their resources are tied up working on something we don't know about. Otherwise, "shiiits weak!"

Caustics traps at least for me are my top shooting priority in a fight now because if I shoot them well it just gets way easier when there outta of the way

I’m not really happy with this entire season it’s been almost 2 weeks in and I’m constantly running into really buggy lobbies and lagging mid fights and it’s not only me all my buddies say the same and not only that the battle pass is absolutely dog water nothing to grind for I almost didn’t get it I just love the game and want to continue to support but their idea of the direction they want to go with apex is wrong people do not want more modes where your playing with tons of people we want solos ask anyone in this comment section and they make a prestige skin and put a huge paywall behind their masterpiece instead of switching up the battle pass why another fucking gun skin and a hemlock of all weapons then the nerfs as well as the weapon rotation is poor

Hey kandy this was very fun video I was really enjoying it. And one thing what I’m not enjoying, is playing apex right now because I’m on PS4 and have an FPS issue on Olympus. Ea and respawn said that they are looking in to it and trying to find the problem. But until then I’m not really having fun

There is also a bug where downed people only take 5 damage per tick no matter how long they are in the gas

don't worry hes been nerfed 5 seasons in a row (caustic main n nows he's practically unplayable) his ult can't do 100 damage total so the enemy can jus sit in it from start to finish to use him at all you have to use a defensive legend agressivly

Nerf isn't as bad as I thought it would be. The gas still sticks around 2 seconds after they shoot it, which still makes it useful for gatekeeping doorways and such even if they take it out.
