I like how Etho has a room dedicated to testing Redstone, but he still just does it on open spaces above the mancave

Practice makes perfect wherever In redstone room it gives only 1.1x more experience so most of the time it's not worth it Lolz ROFL

It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I personally love the redstone episodes. Especially ones like this that discover a whole new redstone mechanic.

Etho: technical R&D episode… maybe not everyone’s cup of tea Literally everyone: anything Etho does is my cup of tea

Its awesome how etho is still making redstone discoveries with the motion detector.

It is somewhat new. Key word is somewhat

There are so many things you can do with red stone now. Before and after sculk!
Vor 9 MonateWalter White +81
Etho will always be the OG redstone innovator.
Vor 9 MonateSilver Smurfer +15
@Walter White big facts!! All my redstone knowledge came from etho, then mumbo later on. The redstone goats

You should name at least one of the villagers in each cell, so you can tell easily when a full loop has passed

I love that you made such a complicated redstone machine to know, when the villagers restock, while you could have just put a clock on a wall. 😅

Let's be honest though, this is Etho we're talking about here after all...

If he used a hopper clock it wouldn't work because Etho and or the player sleeps every now and again. How would the clock work with that.
Vor 9 Monatechristopher penn +182
@Isaac Bluestone he is talking about an actual clock that you can put in an item frame.
Vor 9 Monateenkvadrat +33
@Isaac Bluestone I think he meant a normal clock in an item frame

Ive been watching him since the island base mob sorting system days, maybe even since single digit episode numbers, and i was in primary school then iirc, and now i live on my own and have a job. The fact that he is still going strong, despite other monuments of the old school MC community like Yogscast Simon and Lewis, PaulsoaresJR, GenerikB, InTheLittleWood, UberHaxorNova, etc. having long since moved on says loads about Etho's ability to commit to something, keep it interesting to watch, and still be able to find enjoyment in something he's been doing for so long. My upmost respect always goes out to old guard like him and Bdubbs. No matter how much time passes in my life, I'll always love Etho's content
Vor 9 MonateDaniel Grenier +11
Idk why I’m surprised but the fact that double subtraction with comparators equals addition is awesome! Also, I love how Etho is still finding so many clever redstone innovations. What a fantastic episode of awe-inspiring ideas!

If I'm not mistaken, that mechanic where villagers don't close their trades is actually used in Ilmango's peaceful challenge to exploit a bug that happens when you open the trading window w/ a wandering trader and unload the guy. It lets you buy gunpowder (the only method in peaceful), but the wandering trader will still have that trade available next time you see him. Rinse and repeat, you've got a gunpowder farm in peaceful :D
Vor 9 MonateInfinity Being +36
I first found your videos right before you started building the Ice Base, around 10 years ago. I've watched every LP episode from the beginning (and all other solo content), and out of all the YouTubers out there that have lasted even half as long, you've managed to keep it the same for over a decade. Your content has been therapeutic for so long, and whether you see this or not, I just wanted to say thank you for all these years of the coolest Minecraft contraptions.

Vor 9 MonateAnother Duck +14
Always challenging himself to do something new. Even if he brings in a slice of his old hopper clock.
Vor 9 MonateBoliveto +32
Why just stick a clock on a wall when you can make a double substraction system to correct the time when its raining
Vor 9 Monateperchy22 +7
@Boliveto I feel like even with the inaccuracy in the sensors, it's still easier to get an accurate read using redstone than with a clock in an item frame. And it's certainly easier to do without having to stand near the clock/device.
Vor 9 MonateNooticus
Agreed!!!
Vor 9 MonateBoliveto +2
@perchy22 yeah for sure, yet it seems like an overcomplex solution, a overkill all in all but etho just randomly do these kinda """useless""" things and end up discovering something amazing, and it feels me with determination

Vor 9 MonateEdgar Froes +6
Yep, that’s pretty much it. I can’t explain why a grown ass man like me is such a fan of some random Canadian without a face lol If I had to be subscribed to only one channel, it’d be Etho’s. I’m here for 13 years, it’s crazy.
Vor 9 MonateBrave +925
You could also try to play with wool. just put wool on every but one side of skulk sensor, and it would activate only while you walk in front of this open side. So if you have it on one side of door it only "hear" you walking in or out. or maybe placing one wool between skulk sensors?
Vor 9 MonateEmily & Jared +12
Oh cool, I didn't realize wool blocked the sensor like that
Vor 9 MonateBrave +38
@Emily & Jared it's very useful in ancient cities :)
Vor 9 MonateMrCrownedClown +23
Yeah I think 3 sensors would work. One for each direction and one walking past the 'entrance ' (Etho calls it the line).
Vor 9 MonateDanny Houghton +9
I literally come here to say this
Vor 9 MonateWolk +5
Yeah I was thinking something like that as well, wool could probably be applied to fix some issue with this detector.

Vor 9 MonateJarry Pota +29

Vor 9 MonateBaguette Boy +152
Etho, you can use wool blocks to block vibrations from certain angles so it only activates when you are directly above them.
Vor 9 MonateLeo Feldman +34
I bet the “directional director” become ethos new hopper clock. A breakthrough in the usual Minecraft Redstone!
Vor 9 MonateAverage AF +3
Love the motion detector! Locking repeaters and double negatives in one episode, a redstoners dream come true!
Vor 9 MonateItay Bachar +10
Hey Etho! I’ve got a suggestion to that sensor that may solve the issue of staying in the zone for too long! Instead of having both sensors so close to each other to see which ones win.. you can separate them into zones so for example a zone would be in the chest room, and another one would be outside of the room. This way you can detect which zone was triggered last (as long as you make it so the detection radius don’t intersect!) This may be less compact but may also be more versatile! Cheers
Vor 9 MonateLuca Biada +18
aaaand, etho did it again, pointing 2 pistons to each other, and inventing the future of redstone in front of our eyes

Hey Etho, one thing to watch out for with sculk sensors is any other sounds will trigger it, Mobs, redstone, etc. Even if you filter out those sounds it causes a delay till they can sense again. I have door I control using a sculk sensor to trigger but if an enderman teleports to close to the door the sensor essentially ignores everything else.

It's funny that i remember how i watched your series back then when i was at school and you really inspired me to do redstone, explore upon deep systems of mechanization in Minecraft. Now i already graduated university faculty of computer science and still stuff that you make continues to amaze me. It is insane how you can keep pushing limits of engineering. Stay healthy.
Vor 9 MonateStarNanny +18
I always think of redstone as physical computer-coding, as opposed to digital, so it makes sense Etho’s experiments interest you, and me, and so very many others.
Vor 9 Monate607 +1
@StarNanny Yup. Did you guys also find Etho through Sethbling?

Vor 9 Monate607 +1
@StarNanny Okay! I thought of it because Sethbling used to make a lot of redstone videos, which I loved to watch as a kid. I got to know Etho when he appeared in a few of SethBling's videos at the start of 2013.
Vor 9 Monatelars masonsmith +21
love how etho always is able to find some new way to make something, like a trading station that has been made almost identically for years and etho found a new way, and now he just made a circuit with skulk sensors that will probably be as relevant in newer Redstone as the etho hopper clock.
Vor 9 MonateStephen K +2
Honestly, I watched Beef's NMS series even before discovering his Minecraft comment, and still to this day whenever I hear his Hermitcraft introductions "Hey guys..." my brain still hears "...welcome to another episode of No Man's Sky" with Etho piping up afterward, "SPACE PALS FOR LIFE!"

Vor 9 MonateHaph +66
You should be able to skip the piston in the rain circuit by instead subtracting the output of the rain detector. (Compare works too, but *triple* subtraction is cooler)
Vor 9 MonateJackstermax +5
My original thought was, couldn't he just put a ! (not/invert) function on the addition from the barrel when it's clear out, or swap between values to subtract from instead of re-adding when it rains...
Vor 9 MonateGrimTapestry +1
Smart
Vor 9 Monateperchy22
@Jackstermax Is there a compact analog invert in vanilla redstone? I mostly stick to binary logic in it (or use modded stuff).
Vor 9 Monatedemonicmerma1d +1
@perchy22 subtraction mode on comparators is an analog invertion
Vor 9 MonateStormchazer +150
6:22 green particles by the villager, meaning it has refreshed trades. I think the issue was that the other work benches were occupied by the other villagers as they were still near those workstations. Adding those 3 composters helped as 2 villagers didn't have a workbench, but as clear in this moment, the villager got a workbench this way.
Vor 9 MonatePulse1147 +4
Gosh, one of the things I've been noticing lately is just how much off-screen work Etho does solely for the sake of smooth transitions and faster explanations. Like when he was showing how to extend the sculk sensor detection radius: the first one he dug out on camera, then the second one was already dug so he could just place the sensor down to make his point. These videos are just so polished. :Chef's Kiss:
Vor 9 MonateKevin Chen +2
Ever since I started learning javascript(coding language), I realized how similar many of the concepts most Minecraft redstoners have with coders. The different logical operators such as the and, or, and not gates, variables represented through items in a chest, comparisons are comparators, etc.

Vor 9 MonateJon Rueckert +3
another way to update the door system with skulk sensors is to just have each sensor cover the 2 separate "areas" you care about and have the signals feed a basic RS latch, so have one only hear you when you are inside the room or maybe ALMOST inside and have the other cover the area outside its entryway with no overlap, this method will always work even if you stop right at the midway point as your not relying on timing, even if you shift inside your room and then make some noise it will still work because the whole room is covered, no pistons, no piston noise needed, just pure redstone

Hey Etho, love the technical videos! Remember when you built a movable storage system with minecart chests? With shulkers it may not be necessary but I think it would be a cool novelty to have a base where sculk sensors detect your presence, then call the storage system to the location you are at. I'm certainly going to try this myself.

Vor 9 MonateVillfuk 02 +2
Use wool to let you extend the range of the skulk sensors. Block them off, so they only hear you cross the line and you don't have to put them underground. Also, you don't need pistons. Droppers should do the trick.
Vor 9 MonateNicolas Yan +5
I find it funny that Etho had to go back to doors/trapdoors/fence gates to safely move the villagers around. Brings me back to the very old days, way before pistons, when he moved boats around using doors and water streams and pressure plates :)

I love the Walk-In/Out Detector Mechanic! There's so much that could be hooked up to these to reduce constantly running systems in bases. Lights? Easy. Moving decorations? Check. Forgot to turn off a farm before leaving? Not anymore! You could even rig an alarm system with this - just enter or leave through the right doorway to arm/disarm the security. It seems like a simple gadgety mechanic, but there's so much potential... Thanks for fiddling around with old and new redstone things, I appreciate these episodes so much.

Hey Ergo, transport has always been a big part of your career (going back to the EATS road). If I've learned anything from engineering, if one sensor is not enough add more. Since these are so compact, you can use a vertical stack of them and take the average of their outputs. You can also use a horizontal line of them, along the traveling path to gather data to determine traveling direction more accurately. These are really cool

I always enjoy your technical gameplay in Minecraft, as you said definitely sparks some ideas here and there!
