@Ken Kaniff I agree with you, I also take nothing away from the lad. There will be many more duels betwen him & the liked of MvDP for us fans sitting on the couch to enjoy.
Vor MonatKen Kaniff
@Crispus Mahea I take nothing away from the lad. I congratulate him and his countrymen on that historical win. I even said he will probably win a stage in the Giro so I'm not angry one bit. He did everything right today and he won. I'm actually not surprised he won and I never said he was no good but you Bini fans need to relax a bit now. He's won a grand tour stage and that's wonderful. I respect him and his win today
Vor MonatCrispus Mahea
@Ken Kaniff Biniam beats Mathieu van der poel into submission! What a day. Now no one can question if he wins the points classification.
Vor MonatKen Kaniff
@Crispus Mahea oh wow. Imagine how that would settle with other sprinters and the fans. Winning the points jersey but hadn't WON a single sprint. That would not be a position I'd want to be in as a sprinter. It's just not right. Yes, winning the jersey is great BUT there would be so much talk and controversy over it if he did not win a single sprint. You talk about "going down in history", well I don't think it's that cut and dry. It would be debated and discussed until the next time he's at a world tour and it would still be being debated at THAT world tour. It would be a shadow over him. It wouldn't be a clear and respected decision even tho he won the points classification. He's be talked about for a LONG time if that happened. And a sprinter sprints to win. Bini would NOT be proud of the jersey if he didn't even win ONE stage!! It would bother him also!!
Vor MonatCrispus Mahea
@Ken Kaniff In a grand tour it is all about the jersey. I wish BG would have clinched position 2 or 3 in every sprint so far....he'd be wearing the maglia ciclamino and there is nothing anyone could say to him because at the end, that is what goes down in history. Not the one win here and there.
Vor Monatthewen
come on intermarche! give biniam just 1 guy for the last 1km. just one. he's been in top 5 every stage so far. do you not want to win???
Vor MonatKen Kaniff
@Inyasi Priscusi but he's NOT a pure sprinter so it's a really big ask to put him on a team with a skilled leadout train. Those teams want a pure sprinter to support and work for. He's also young and not tried and tested yet. He needs to prove himself and maybe then things will change around him but he just isn't this SUPER hero the Bini fans think he is. The lad is good, but not experienced enough yet
Vor MonatInyasi Priscusi

@John Rectangle I agree completely with both of your comments. It actually saved me from explaining it all😉 cheers🤘🇬🇧
Vor MonatYa boy Kirby
Girmay to me seems like a sprinter that doesn't need teammates, he was in a perfect spot to sprint despite barely being helped. And tbh you can see with some of the AG2R riders that had a pretty decent train going that fizzled out because one of their lead out men simply wasn't fast enough dpesite trying his hardest that it can be a drawback
Vor MonatJohn Rectangle
@Brendan Luongo You're right for the lead out.But who's the one strong enough to do that in Intermarché ? Not Pozzovivo,Taaramae or Hindt.Moutain is for them No Barnabaak. Not explosive enough, but a good rider The three others I don't know them .So I look their profile. One of them(Vliegen) worked for Girmay in Paris Nice ,but for all the stages, not only sprints. So maybe Belgium riders .But they're not sprinters But to do a lead out you need to be a good sprinter ,so I don't know who really suggest to help Girmay And I think the "real" Girmay is the one of the first stage, who battled against MVP.Girmay is only 22,he's a World class rider, with a great future, but he's not a pure sprinter
Vor MonatFelix Hartrampf
As a casual spectator, what is, as was mentioned in the video the risk of catching the breakaway too early? What does it matter whether he's chased down 30 or 60 km before the finish?
Vor MonatKen Kaniff
Catching a breakaway too early can cause ANOTHER breakaway which may be MORE successful because the new breakaway doesn't have to hold off the peloton as long
Vor Monatdarrelduke
and also a standoff between gc teams to see who will take up (or work on the front) the chase.
Vor MonatRafael
I'd also add something to what has been said. When there's a breakway, it means that anyone that wants to escape the peloton still has the breakaway riders to beat, which may not be easy as they have the opportunity to sit on the wheel of the fresher riders and then beat them on the line. On the other hand, if they catch the breakawy too soon (60 or so km to go), it means that there's a stage up for grabs for anyone who escapes the peloton. Generally, the pace set by the peloton is different if there's 60 or 30km, meaning teams won't chase as hard at 60km to go , as they'd have nothing left in the last 10-15km.
Vor MonatBernardHChrist
Basically they kind of want a mouse to catch. If the peloton’s on the front on a flat stage, everyone gets twitchy about who’s doing the work etc, it’s almost like there’s too much time to think. Having a breakaway, even solo, gives you a short term goal - so best take your time reeling him in on a rather deathly stage like today. Hope that helps!

Bianam girmay always top 5
Vor MonatKen Kaniff
If you are attempting bunch sprints and consistently getting top 5 that is NOT something a team manager or a sprinter would be happy with. In bunch sprints if you keep getting top 5 it's called "consistently losing" He needs a team better suited for leadouts!! You need more than one leadout man. You need 3 or 4 riders in a leadout train. ONE guy is not going to get you where you need to be very often unless he is a veteran like Renshaw and even then Renshaw had help so Bini needs a team that is trained and familiar in this discipline but he is too young and not PROVEN yet so he's not going to get a team built around him anytime in the next 2 years. He is still learning and not learning what he needs to learn. POSITIONING IS EVERYTHING!!

Using the word "epic" to describe anything about today's stage is a real stretch. You might say Cav experienced an "epic fail" - dropped off with 200 to go after not breaking a sweat for 2 days in a row, and getting soundly beaten (can't claim he was tired or out of position).

@NwSahil Mountains this sport does not care what colour or nationality you are. You are graded on your accomplishments and this lad is not the greatest thing to ever sprint like most of the fans seem to think. It's getting old really fast. The comments I read are so ridiculous. Half these people have never watched a cycling event until this week. The comments clearly show that. There's so much nonsense being talked that I have to say something. It's tiring, always reading unfounded and untrue claims

This is a bunch sprint. Not what he is going to partake in. Not the right stage for him
Vor Monatoldtwins na
Not the kind of race for him. He is a classics type rider so needs to ride hard for long distances or steep short climbs to gas other riders before he launches his fast finish. This stage had the peloton averaging 3w/kg until the last few km's, something that is typical in stage race flat sprints. That allows the true sprinters to save all their energy for their 30 second bursts, to which he cannot compete with on fresh legs basis.
Vor MonatBryan__X__
He doesn’t take part in mass sprints.

That sprint was not super fast because of the wind.. it indeed made it slightly boring lol
