Haulers: what must we prioritise? Matt: everything Haulers: but which must take priority? Matt: yes !
Vor 2 Monate@monad_tcp +23
That reminds me of my last job as software engineer. Everything had highest priority, so I just choose whatever is that I wanted to do and my boss always got mad that I did the "wrong" things.
Vor 2 Monate@fendalynn6604 +16
He also didn’t prioritize hauling as a job, meaning that when he increases his log pumping capacity, his hauling goes down, causing his log pumpers to pump less water. He should only prioritize long distance trips if he can, and have two hauling posts, one on highest priority with needed haulers (as much as needed for long distance trips), one on lowest for unemployed beavers to increase general efficiency.
Vor 2 Monate@andywhite9378 +9
This reminds me of every manager ever. “Everything is high priority.” They would never appreciate it when you then told them what that means, “so you mean that nothing is a priority”. This game needs some more management tools like ranking and stacking of priorities so RCE is not surprised when no one is farming.
Vor 2 Monate@hippophlebotamus
I understand it though, I have had the exact same issue in colony games. People seem to ignore certain jobs when you try to make a legitimate hierarchy of importance but get to everything eventually when they are all just most important.

Honestly the biggest issue i see is the commute. The distance between house and workplace looks very long. You should look into reducing that, by path optimizing or making a new district.
Vor 2 Monate@arnoldguhan8086 +19
Or, having houses on the other side so they can work in nearby workplaces.
Vor 2 Monate@shao9875 +3
He needs more houses too
Vor 2 Monate@fendalynn6604 +12
I don’t think beavers prioritize jobs near their homes. However, covering his water storage in platforms should allow him to put a straighter path, with more stairs to the front of the dam.

In this map it is really helpful to use explosives to bomb out the central canal so it can hold more water and doesn't dry out as fast.
Vor 2 Monate@superkid5mini937 +5
That’s probably on his list next And maybe terraforming because there’s that one hill with dirt but the golems and stuff will take a lot space
Vor 2 Monate@fendalynn6604 +7
Dynamite production causes injured beavers, and requires paper. He should build an engine first for his power needs. He should also stop using beech for wood, as it is the least efficient source. Finally, deepening the canal causes it to water a smaller area when the level drops below the original one. So you keep the core around it wet for longer, but at the cost of the rest of your farming area. This map is also not very deep. In practice, though, with everything being so close to one another, this map is not really hard.
Vor 2 Monate@flummi6966 +1
best way is to bomb out one block strategically here and there,or put 2 levee blocks in a corner as a start.
Vor 2 Monate@akmon3490
I wonder if these beavers have the irrigation tower and if you put it in the lowered channel of it will cover the plants so when it is too low you have the irrigation tower on platforms a level or two higher and you can start using them after the river doesn't have the required level anymore
Vor 2 Monate@IamHattman
A smple solution without having to build out a ton of extra industry forst would be just lining the river with levees
Vor 2 Monate@williamhare4456 +34
How long is it going to take before RCE realize that if he builds levees along the river banks the river will be deeper and take longer to dry out?

I know that you've probably been told this before and this series is almost certainly pre-recorded, but you don't need the corner pieces on the dam. Water can't pass through two diagonally connected dam pieces, it's just a visual quirk. Replacing the dam pieces with platforms will let you build faster and store significantly more water.

I’ve been doing a build on the same map and have a couple of tips for you. Build a tall but narrow dam right next to the waterfall. Can store enough water for a 30 day drought in there. Also use levees and water dumps to make 1 square sized water tanks in the middle of the dry areas. Much more room for planting crops. If you use the terraces you can build a storage tank with 5 levees.
Vor 2 Monate@zxuiji +3
I think you need to download the sketchy logs mod (not compatible with the ecological planks mod), it's mid to late game usage with how much resources you need to overtake the forester and loggers (even if you can technically start using it early game)
Vor 2 Monate@rob_i208 +9
It's a bit of a shame that dams are only 3 tiles high in the base game; however that's where water pumps and irrigation towers come into play. For Iron Teeth you should consider setting up a water pump to pump water out of your Giga-Dam at the end of the drought.
Vor 2 Monate@geckoman1011 +2
You don't even need more than one flood gates. Build one and then build the wall as high as you can. The incoming water comes is faster than the water flows over the gate. It will keep flowing even after the drought starts because of it stacking up during the rainy season
Vor 2 Monate@KatsuneGaming +5
I think a bridge from one half of your dam to the other (right in front of the waterfall) would be a great place to build a bridge connecting the two halves. Would save a lot of time for your beavers heading to the Log Pumpers. Also, a trick I've learned with the dams in this game; using a single Flood Gate instead of multiple makes it a lot harder to flood your river. Just use the normal dams beside them, and you're good.
Vor 2 Monate@takumi2023 +12
you should aim for explosives to make the pit deeper in the reservoir. explosive could also help with organizing the different levels of your water storage and base. maybe even hydropower.

Vor 2 Monate@ragerancher +2
You have a farmers hut right on the edge of the map that only covers a fraction of your fields (often the first to dry out) so you may as well remove it. Also it's useful to have a small or medium water tank next to pumpers so they don't have to walk far if haulers don't get to them. (you are building a large tank now which is fine but the smaller ones could have been built earlier). Lastly you have trees in your woodcutting area that are fully grown but not being cut. Are they highlighted / within range?
Vor 2 Monate@F4ngel +2
All the beavers are well behaved this episode. None were sent to the pain train.
Vor 2 Monate@EtheE +9
Prioritizing pump for haulers can greatly increase their output assuming you have enough haulers, as the pumpers will never have to leave their workplace to deposit water.

Using a small map to make your dams look bigger is like... I enjoy the videos, great work!
Vor 2 Monate@entropic-decay +2
My personal design I use that might be useful on this tiny map has power generation on the river, then the shafts going *over the top of* paths for farms and foresters, bridges across the river going around the wheels then, anything that doesn't need to be on irrigated ground (housing etc.) is away from the main water source. i usually also later use water dumps to put showers near the housing, but that's a more late thing that i do once other infrastructure is satisfactory
Vor 2 Monate@MildTimes +4
i think an absolute massive dam across the map to save more water could be a good idea if you find away to limit the amount of already exist farmland you have being destroyed, having all that water stored up could green up and unlock some of the other higher parts of the land also.
Vor 2 Monate@SgtLube818 +4
From the path next to the large water tank, make it a GIANT box level with the top of the waterfall. Use those crazy metal sluice gates that you Chekhov's Gunned us with.
Vor 2 Monate@nacoran +1
I think they need is list pages where you can look at the priority of everything and then some arrows so you can move things up and down the list- even within the priority categories. Basically, it would be a full on list that lets you put every item in priority order. When it pops up it should be on the side of the screen and each item you highlight should be highlighted on the map.
Vor 2 Monate@scottdebrestian9875
How would that work, though? Every single beaver would work on the item on top of the list first? That would not be a good allocation of labor. I think it makes more sense to allocate jobs by %. So you could specify 40% builders, 20% haulers, etc. To increase priority, you'd up the percentage.
Vor 2 Monate@NiyaKouya +1
And so the quest continues to get Matt to finally move the water egress dam one block inward to reduce water loss, and to build at least one "shortcut" across the water so his beavers don't spend half their day on the road... A humble suggestion and a firm thank you @RealCicilEngineerGaming You should make a bring of scaffolding under the waterfall source area to allow quicker access to the pumps and water, have it at the path point by the Iron ruins and go north under the water to the pump, you have just enough space for this and will allow more beaver range. However, thank you for the content, it is always appreciated!!
Vor 2 Monate@ryanwilk1106
Haven't played this in a while, so I'm not sure if this would work, but could you put a normal dam down and then put flood gates in front? That way you can just keep building up the reservoir
Vor 2 Monate@takayukiryuu8885
Try switching your damns with single level levees so that you can store more water in the lower areas when it is almost drought season. It's been working for me
Vor 2 Monate@comedyzone
Constructive Feedback: You leave it on fast forward too often to get time lapses or while considering how to progress your build strategy, so they're all exhausting food, water and wood supply before you have a chance to see it in the decline.
Vor 2 Monate@ExecutorLP99 +1
Awesome Video. I guess you should focus on dynamite beacuse then you can get your water inside of the Dam deeper. 30 Days droughts are hard af
Vor 2 Monate@dragonboss1012
I have an idea, just make the river one higher that way the water last longer along the antire river so it doesn't dry up as fast. And then you can use the mega dam as a water storage like ya been. Just an idea
Vor 2 Monate@geckoman1011
The best way to beat the drought is to build a dam with only one flood gate. Then build the walls as high as you want. The water will flow over the flood gates, but not as fast as it flows in and will stack up. It's an easy way to keep a lower area irrigated.
Vor 2 Monate@chrissugg968
I've been playing this challenge for the past week or two - what really hits you after a while is the lack of space for trees, as lots of the late-game stuff uses up planks or uses logs as power.
Vor 2 Monate@fendalynn6604 +2
Focus only on your 30 days trees, as they are the most efficient. I had no issue on this map, even when flooding the last part to have the same level all the way around the river. Though it will be more of a challenge if you go for golems, as they require a lot of resources to build. I was happy leaving it at all welfare things except the mud bath.
Vor 2 Monate@adamgawlik9174
I feel like Matt is doing good so well because the small maps reduces the chances for overzealous structures.
Vor 2 Monate@Borcheltski
one of the things I do to get the most out of the water wheels is to force it through a small area, greatly increases the CFM and thus the HP per wheel
Vor 2 Monate@lindevbe
If you put the second row of floodgates on platforms directly behind the first row, with one height overlapping, you should be able to let water out all the way down and store it all the way up
Vor 2 Monate@lionhart1517
Should probably add a catwalk over the gigadam reservoir to drastically reduce travel time to the new pumps (currently dark red)
Vor 2 Monate@Wodan94
I think farmer priority is best set to planting. If you prioritize harvesting they won't plant new crops until everything is farmed, and then you have a hole in your food income at some point, it may take a bit longer in the beginning to plant everything, but then you also easily see that you need more farmers if a lot of crop is standing on the fields. (don't prioritize harvesting for those because then you won't use the space as efficiently...)
Vor 2 Monate@madonion2370

Vor 2 Monate@richiegoos
I think it might be helpful to have a multi tiered dam that can go higher. Or go deeper.
Vor 2 Monate@nastykiller95
Why not make a dam that goes along the river, so the river itself can hold more water and the pumps at the bottom are on it and platforms over the water? You could also try to make branch off of the river to expand the area you can plant. I would suggest trying to move building for manufacturing to the higher level.
Vor 2 Monate@owynvalkyns9478
I feel like running the water intensive farms in the tower when you have Unlimited Water and stocking up on food and then turning them off when you are on tank only supply is a possibly good idea

Regarding priority and cutting the kohlrabi i think it would be neat if there was a “project manager” menu of sorts. i like to prebuild a lot, especially early game, and having the ability to group a number of jobs of varying priority and then set the priority of the overall project without having to individually click n drag would be super cool. in this case “giga dam” and “landscaping“ could be two different projects and in the moment our engidaddy needed the kohlrabi cut to make room for the farmhouse he could reduce the overall priority of the dam for a few moments and re-up it once they are picked. the other jobs in the landscaping project tab would then be set back to whatever priority they were before and if RCE had something like the recovery of demolished stairs in there and a huge dynamite build he could set the stair recovery to very high and the dynamite to high (or VV) and then up the priority of the project if he needed quick logs but still have the dynamite project underway. alternatively give us a priority slider so we can set builds to x% and micromanage EVEN HARDER
Vor 2 Monate@calebault8077
While dams are, of course, wonderful and useful, it's critical to store as much as possible of that water in tanks, as the water evaporates from the dam. This means that during droughts you ought to continue pumping those logs as much as possible, then irrigate the crops with the irrigation building (I forget what it's called).
Vor 2 Monate@VJK102 +1
The ultimate proof that sadly RCE doesn't seem to read the comments its that he STILL havent moved those glitched dam pieces on the end of the river

Vor 2 Monate@AlucardsBlood69
You need to get engines going, but that requires you to fix your wood. You can fix your wood by centralizing it all in Oak and maybe planting a small section of Pine for the oil. You have too many redundant jobs. 3 foresters on this map is insane. Also, check your permissions on what can and cant be cut, it looks like a few of your oaks are out of range or not marked for cutting. Consider turning the backside of the map into an infinite energy source using wheels and water pumps. Switch to Golems as soon as you can for some jobs like water pumping and wood cutting so they only take small breaks to recharge and then work through the night. You need to dynamite your reservoir deeper and make it more square as well, deeper is better than wider considering the game factors evaporation off surface area. Consider removing your farming areas and centralizing them around small pumps with 1 water blocks as well to make use of space better.
Vor 2 Monate@aws4265
You could use dynamite to increase straw length and Increase the volume of water stored.
Vor 2 Monate@circuitgamer7759
Do floodgates work when they're underwater? I think you could make a floodgate system that reaches the full height of the dam rather than just three blocks with clever use of levees and whatever the name of the block that can be built on and also lets water through is. Unless levees can't be built on top of the other block that I can't remember, you could have a hole in the bottom of the dam with a floodgate just behind it in addition to the floodgates at the top (or completely replacing them if they work underwater). If there's levees at the top of the floodgate it should just work, right? (I've never played the game, so I don't know the mechanics. Please tell me if I guessed any of this wrong)

What i do when there's a hefty building project is set up a logistics network. Builders can't carry as much as haulers because haulers have their carrying capacity doubled. Thus, i set up a small storage or two with planks and logs. I set those storages to obtain and the main storage to supply. This will mean that haulers will bring logs and planks to those small storage units. Then, what you'll see is builders going back and forth between the storage to supply materials to the worksite!
