I feel so guilty, I lived in California at the time and I signed a petition to help keep the FDA out of the way of natural supplements. I was 20, pregnant and convinced by the store owner who said the FDA would add foods we normally eat such as garlic or honey to the list of "Must Be Tested For Veracity". Sigh...........never sign a petition under duress.

Lady looked at me like a monster because I refused to sign a petition to stop testing on animals. I wanted to know which testing they wanted to stop. She went into a spiel about testing cosmetics on animals. But the petition didn't just say cosmetics, it said end animals testing. Maybe I am a monster, but I don't want to end animal testing for things that could save my life. There's been other petitions where people react like I'm a monster when I won't sign because the petition isn't very specific or was so specific, I didn't understand what they were saying anymore.

This is exactly why I never donate a dollar when prompted by a cashier at a department store while checking out. You don’t have time to check if the charity is legit, and the department store is probably doing it for tax write offs anyway. What matters is that you learned better and can now warn others not to do the same.

Green coffee is very high in beneficial antioxidants, but what actually goes into those pills when they are manufactured is anyone's guess. Regulation isn't the same as prohibition. Awesome! So entertaining! Doctor’s should be the last ones to be consulted for our food requirements. They know that and the good doctors will refer you to nutritionists. I am yet to meet a certified nutritionist in Canada that would recommend food supplements. The solution is get your information from the right people. The problem is that we assume to much on the doctor’s knowledge and some will take advantage of that.

To my dear fellow viewers. The keyword here is "supplements." Supplements are not subjected to the same testing as /drugs./ They do not undergo clinical trials and are, as a result, untested when they reach the public. This is the ONLY reason that supplements are subject to this disgusting booming business; they're unregulated. If you tried to market a /medicinal drug/ as bad as the ones mentioned in this episode your pharmaceutical company would no longer exist. So PLEASE subject supplements to the highest scrutiny you are capable of because our government is not.

My folks used to be all about Dr. Oz. They'd Tivo his show if they couldn't watch it, they'd follow his advice and honestly he does give good health advice. You know exercise, eat right, reduce fat, sodium and empty calories and so on. But my Dad especially was all into trying these supplements that he sold and he'd go out to the health food store to find them and try them for a bit. For all intents and purposes he is a bit of a health nut. In the gym every day. Doesn't eat processed foods. Shuns sugar in all it's forms and stuff like that. I told him he was wasting his money and then showed him this. Neither one watches him anymore. This one thing tainted the way they saw him.

@Jackie Johnson The wonderful thing about science is that it is always discovering new things, even if that means disproving otherwise well-known truths. It's an interesting development, I'll give you that! And I will be honest, I've had bad digestive issues for so long, I've given up on gluten and lactose, and it still hasn't cleared everything up (but being even more honest, they might not want to test me for it, but gluten does cause issues). At one point, I couldn't eat before midday because I would wake up and be nauseous. I'm knowledgeable about things like this because I need to be -- one thing I know as a woman is that if you're sick and the doctor doesn't know what it is, they'll blame your emotions before they'll find out what's wrong with you, and call you crazy for wanting real treatment.

@Johanna Schaurer Pasteurization is sntirely separate from the process of antibiotic feeding, pasteurization is simply a special way to "cook" the milk without burning it, which guarantees it is safe to drink but still tastes fine. EDIT: So far as I am aware, Oberweis dairy only pasteurizes milk, nothing else. They grass feed the cows and they never give them drugs to make them overproduce.

Vor year
Johanna Schaurer
Johanna Schaurer

Just to clear up the whole milk thing, (and my sources pretty much come from the documentaries on Netflix about the food industry, so this is all really easy to access,) milk today is nasty and unhealthy. Here's why: Pus: The pus and white blood cells (which are the same thing, don't get confused. Pus in cows, just like pus from a pimple on your face, is made up of distressed fluids from the area, white blood cells trying to prevent infection [which is why it's white in color], and bacteria that entered any wounded areas) are from the fact many cows are treated with horrible hormone therapies. This is actually an interlocked thing with the GMO debate, as rBST (Recombinant Bovine Somatotropin) was invented and lobbied and sold extensively by Monsanto during the early days of their move from chemical work to genetics. rBST has been proven many times to cause extreme mastitis (I hope I spelled that right) in cows, which is why they make so much pus, but rBST also causes the production of a chemical in the milk that the FDA has been lobbied to say is safe but has been proven to be equivalent to IGF-1 in humans. If milk produced by these cows are given to children, it has been shown to cause an increased chance of developing pancreatic issues and diabetes later in life. And what do we tell our kids? Drink all of your milk. Antibiotics and Pasteurization: This has been proven time and time again, milk is severely affected by what you do to it beforehand. I cannot say this is true for everything, but milk is almost every time worse for it if you try to change it. The FDA and USDA have specifically tried to attack people who go against the rubric of pasteurization and "safety protocol," even razing entire farms to the ground using scientific bogus (I highly recommend you check the documentaries for this, because I can't remember what name they are but two of them discuss this issue and one actually interviews farmers attacked in this way.) But I can tell you this: antibiotics and the crappy food we feed cows leads to MORE infections, not less, and actually breeds superbacteria and makes cows very uncomfortable all the time since the constant incorrect food and medicine schedule leads to an acidic stomach (ruminants, grass-eaters, which are deer and cows and a few other things, they are not supposed to have acidic stomachs like we do. That's why they eat GRASS [easy to digest], not CORN [you've seen it], ya doofuses.) And unpasteurized milk not only has vitamins, not only has better nutrition counts, not only has a better consistency and stay time, but also it can be used in natural bacterial therapies (turns out that kids can actually be so clean now that they develop bacteria deficiencies and literally become "allergic" to random things like strawberries. This is why you need to let your kid roll in dirt, people) and can heal allergies and other deficiencies, and some lactose-intolerant people can in fact drink non-pasteurized. Final note: I'm not saying you need to go do a backflip and change immediately, that's not realistic especially since even as I live near farming areas, this area is being picked clean of family farms and turned into industrial potato/soy/corn farms, which sucks, but business is business, so what I would at least suggest is at least find your best full-scale LOCAL store (for me in Western New York, that's Wegmans, but I'm sure there's others. I've been in the south, I've heard great things from Publix, so check there as well) and get milk that has a rBST Promise on it. Farmers that get together for regional stores and promise not to use that guck will put a rBST Promise on the carton saying so and then on the back it will have the accompanying FDA garbage saying "wE dOn'T aCtUaLlY bEliEvE tHeRe'S aNyThInG wRoNg BeCaUsE wE gEt PaId!" That milk will be way healthier for you and your kids by tenfold than the milk without it, because that means there won't be pus and there won't be IGF-1 in there; pretty much the only bad thing is if 2020 decides to come out with Coronavirus Part 2 from cows and it comes through there, or the fact you still have to deal with pasteurization. But still, way better than the gross factory stuff. Hope I helped clear things up! If not, just ignore me. I'm just a squirrel.

My boyfriend was taking the first supplement john mentioned, probably around the time this episode aired, and he blacked out, doctors couldn't figure out why so his license (he's a truck driver) was suspended in case it happened again, he stopped the supplement and it hasn't happened since but there was no reason other than those snake oil capsules

Had to take a Vitamin pill once, we were going to Disney parks, my aunt proclaimed it was to help. Those things are ridiculously big! I took it, despite having fears of swallowing things that are bigger than a pain pill (Bad experiences as a child and near chocking to death and almost watching my sister do the same.). She wanted me to take another the next day, but after suffering form stomach pains fro the first hours of taking the last, I opted out. And guess what, I did just fine without it, just drank alot of water and was fine.

I mean, lobbying is kinda important though. By definition, lobbying is just trying to seek change on a political issue. It’s what we see all the time from political activists. You just don’t like it when companies do it, which is understandable to a certain extent.

An OB/GYN I once went to was selling his patients miracle shots that helped patients lose weight. Oh and he also had those patients on 700 calories a day! The fact that he had women that ought to have known better believing his hype was bad enough but when I found out how many hundreds of dollars he was getting for these shots I was stupefied! At some point bypass surgery done at home might be safer than these quacks! (Please do not perform surgeries at home!)

I'd love to see Congress do the same job on Trump. OZ is a daytime entertainment show nobody in their right mind takes very seriously; and if you've got that kind of time to blow, you probably also have a health insurance plan and see your doctor and dentist regularly. The matters on the table in Washington go a little deeper than weight loss however.

I took the green coffee capsules and my stomach was burning. Do you know how much acidity there is in green coffee? That's irresponsible, for a doctor to recommend a product with obvious side effects. The no side effects thing is wrong. He should be banned from offering substances that are not regulated, so he can comfortably inform his viewers.
