I know I'm a little late to the conversation here, but as someone who was in a PhD program headed toward a CRT-type dissertation--and so gratefully thankful that that path didn't pan out--I can say with total truth that Murray is absolutely right about academic "activists" who push these ideologies out into society mostly for the benefit of furthering their branding within a career--tenure, book deals, speaking tours, pensions, and paying off sh!tloads of the student-loan debt they undertook to do this. Not to mention a practically self-serving idea of "changing things for the better"--well intended as they may think they're being--but it's mostly for the betterment of themselves. Genuine thirst for knowledge and truth--even when it's inconvenient--go out the window in favor of, perhaps not ill-intended, but nonetheless practical selfishness and positioning of themselves as "better" or "smarter" than "the masses." That ivory-tower thing is very real.

The most poignant thing hes said that really stuck with me was when he remarked: "If you dismiss and denigrate my heritage and my ancestors, and my culture, what makes you think I have any moral obligation to respect yours?" It reinforces that we must have the self-respect and courage to stand up and say 'we are not going to have different standards of decency and behavior in our attempts at dialogue. And, at a certain point, when their poisonous racial invective reaches a certain level the attempt at reasoned dialogue is OVER. FULL STOP. At this point it is either to defeat them, or be defeated BY them in whatever arena they so choose.

Vor Monat

Fully agree. “We are not going to have different standards of decency and behavior in our attempts at dialogue” or also ☝🏿 *living.* If our cultures are going to be denigrated and dismissed from the outset then there will be *no* reasonable dialogue because there is nothing worth talking about. Absolutely agree.

@James Mason This is absolutely true. The identity politics obsessed left, in the US and Canada at least, often make the claim that whites don't think of themselves as having a race; that race is something others have. This is nonsense; I've never known a white person in real life that doesn't think whites have a race etc. What is very true however is what you're alluding to, which is that Americans of English ancestry (and indeed Americans in general of any ancestry) don't think of English as an ethnicity; ethnicity is something others have (e.g. 'Italian-Americans', 'Irish-Americans', 'Polish-Americans' etc); you never even hear the term "English-Americans", and people of English or primarily English ancestry will often simply identify as "American". I remember witnessing a tourist from Latin-America blow a young American kid's mind by pointing out that the English _are_ an ethnic group, to which he responded dumbfoundedly, very much in the vein of "Bill and Ted", "No way dude! Whoa! You blew my mind!" He wasn't disagreeing; he was genuinely stunned because it had never occurred to him before. Italian? Irish? German? Sure, _those_ are ethnic groups. English? "That's not an ethnic group! _Everybody's_ English, aren't they?" etc; that sort of thing. Even the 'Scotch-Irish', very common in the US southeast (aka 'The South') often have a sense of having an ethnic identity, but those of primarily English ancestry? Nope. You're never going to get through to Coleman btw, though I appreciate your attempts, because he's not just wrong, he's also broadly confused, and he's impervious to reason.

Thank you for the “F@ck That” argument about your right to speak on race or anything else. Anyone can tell you something about what there life is like. But to say you can’t have an opinion or right is nothing but an effort to silence the other. Proof is in the man of another color nodding his head in agreement. By the same logic someone can claim things like racism without knowing the first thing about your history or what is in your heart, not to mention your motivation.

Thankyou.

Vor Monat

@LA-76 I haven't gone through the whole interview...but here goes my take on this current situation you bring up - there's no reason to drag current "white Americans" into feeling guilty for long ago past sins, or grievances. More recent, or current ones committed by actual individuals, then yes. The sad reality is, there are a lot of troubles in the ghettos with black on black crime. They are their own worst enemy, and the blacks that successfully move into "white culture" and are conservative are deemed "Uncle Toms", and lambasted. There are all kinds of levels of questions, and debates going on. It's quite complex. The complexity is just there. Sometimes people make things more complicated than they need to be, and other times it's just there because all kinds of people are involved, period. I highly recommend Ayaan Hirsi Ali's video, "The Market For Victimhood" on YouTube.

It's interesting that the persona and character of Churchill came up. Somehow neither Lex nor Douglas cared to bring up Churchill's vengeful and outright vicious side - ordering carpet bombing of Dresden is one of the most egregious case. It was at the very end of the war, Germans were already routed, there was no military installations left whatsoever. Just raising to the ground a habitat of civilian populations out of pure vengeance - revenge for German bombing of Coventry. How about sending rank Canadian cadets, with zero combat experience, to make a stand against the Japanese in Hong Kong, just for Churchill's optics, knowing perfectly well that the Canadians will be chopped meat. And they were. How about the polish Anders army? Churchill tried to send it back into Stalin's talons, knowing perfectly well fate would await. Except the Poles refused to be disarmed .. I can go on.

@Brandon JBtw, about the name calling. You literally referred to me as a minnow in your first comment that you have deleted, and I’m the one who is name calling?

Vor 15 Tage
zuzu
zuzu

@Brandon J You shouldn’t be swayed by anyone speaking any language. I hope it was just a jab but who knows. Either way, my goal wasn’t to sway anyone…it is time consuming and I have a full-time job and a family to take care of. My feelings are not hurt, and I never said my ideas are superior. I just think, people should do their own research and draw their own conclusions, instead of listening to the phony “experts” with a “book” to promote, who are dime a dozen nowadays. Murray didn’t say anything profound or interesting about CRT or Marxism. I think CRT is just that- a theory. Any theory has a place under the sun whether you agree with it or not. It does get tricky when you try to apply theories in practice, and CRT and Marxism are proof of that. They are quite similar, although CRT is much weaker as a construct. In both you have your oppressors, your oppressed, and call for social justice that is supposed to be achieved with the help of social engineering. Both sound good IN THEORY! Today, CRT is used as a tool by liberals in their identity driven politics, just like Marxism (Manifesto) was used as a tool by the European liberal movements in the early 20th century. That doesn’t mean the systemic racism does not exist, or that the workers and peasants were not oppressed at the time. It also doesn’t mean that all academic faculties with focus on “studies” must be shut down, what a stupid thing to say. Murray is a sleek operator with a hidden agenda but the moment he opens his mouth, you know he is not the “brightest mind of our times” - it is all marketing.

Vor 16 Tage
Brandon J
Brandon J

@zuzu tell me how Marxism and CRT are beneficial to society? Or how agreeing to disagree is somehow not beneficial. Tell me what points he made that you disagree with and how your ideas are superior. I can be swayed, but you gotta go past the tantrum. Would also like to add your inability to understand English has nothing to do with the points he is making. Ideas are not bound to specific languages.

Too often in Murray interviews the interviewer is a fanboy in awe of him, and just throws out softball questions with no pushback, and it just becomes an echo chamber. Murray's mind is so sharp and he's so well read that he must surely prefer Lex's approach?

For Gen X and older it’s the original 60 Minutes program that used to get deep into ideas like this.

Easily the best interview with Douglas Murray that I have seen. Many others just seem to ask him the same scripted questions. Lex asks some unique ones.

He’s spot on about there being so much garbage in our current culture. Some of it I believe is well meaning, but the arrogance and certitude of “social justice” has resulted in one step forward and two steps backward.

Fascinating interview. Thanks to Murray for pointing out the snowball effect intrinsic to activism. I believe in activism, but have been the only voice I've heard for years speaking about that pitfall. Thats was a bit of personal gratification, bu all topics were interesting, and some genuinely gave me something to chew on. I would posit that the custodians of our nation, as well as those of some others, have steadily been pulling back the benefits hard won by its populace over the last few decades. Should this continue, we have a sort of system of soft fascism. A society in which people are forced to follow rules which are largely unpopular by financial or litigious means; no violence required. In such a situation, violence would be a useful tool, as those people would have very few tools in the box. Revolutions are not won without a single punch being thrown. Correct me if I'm wrong, sincerely. I've never heard of you, but ya got me hooked.

great interview : snakes and ladders analogy - I agree. I recently used something similar to describe how society of the family falls fast, in one generation, and the rise back to that same distance tskes multiple generations

Great interview!! Thank you both! I agree that we should learn more about Mao and real history in general!! Mao was a monster who instructed his puppets to execute my grandfather, caused my grandmother to hang herself, took away their properties; as a result, my father had a mental break down! During the Cultural Revolution, my parents were forced to work in their labor camps because they were teachers. They were ritually abused by their public social shaming parades... I pray for people to wake up soon before it's too late!

I just stumbled over you youtube channel 10 days ago and am enjoying it immensely. One thing you and Douglas forgot to mention concerning "male violence" is we would not even exist as a species without male violence. It was male violence that protected the females and children from the things that go bump in the night. Saber-tooth tigers. "Lions and tigers and bears, oh my."

Douglas Murray is one of my favourite intellectuals. He’s almost (if not) always right, supremely intelligent, even-tempered and has a great voice to listen to. The fact that he’s gay never really shows, and I really respect that. He’s first and foremost what he thinks, not what he’s attracted to. I hope I’m like that with my heterosexuality, because it’s a very admirable trait, in my opinion. Murray all day every day!
