Pro level but in a tiny body. Brilliant improvements on camera and flight performance but staying portable and convenient. So far so good Mini 3 Pro!!!

Fuji beat me to it...the 8 bit footage is noticeable. You can still get passable footage and images for professional work, but the Air 2s wins that one. Although for the money, smart remote and some other features, the Mini 3 Pro is a VERY solid drone for the budding professional pilot. That smart remote and built in 1.3 GB of storage is a game changer. I'm getting into aerial photography and although I'm still early in the game and deciding which drone I really want to start with, I was looking at a neighbors roof because some roofers were trying to scam her into paying $7K to $24K for a new roof when it just needs to be cleaned. I explained roof cleaning, and went to look at her roof and as a nicety, I was going to photograph her roof from the air and look at her exhaust vents to see if they needed to be caulked. The first trip I used my ladder and cell phone for photos, but forgot I'd pulled my SD card and hadn't put it back, which is very rare for me. I went back a few days later to look inside her attic and took the drone again, only this time I had the remove, but I didn't have the cell phone to see what I was photographing, so that was a second wasted drone trip. If I'd had the Mini 3 Pro, that built in storage and all in one remote would have saved the day.

The only thing I don't like is the 8 bit footage :(

Thank God i waited to see what the MINI 3 can do This is exactly what i wanted A small lightweight 249g Drone that removes alot of the crazy restriction BUT without sacrificing a lot of the bigger drones specs 4K 60FPS should be the standard for any Drone in 2022, and glad to see they upgraded that along with flat colour profile and new lens always felt the Air 2s was a bit too expensive especially if you want the fly more combo Great review as always Would love a direct comparison to the Air 2S to see the speed difference, noise level, low light test, and overall feel of the drone etc etc

Flat colour profile without 8bit instead of 10bit, kinda ruins the whole thing for me. Probably better to just use the normal color profile and not mess with the colors in post to much

The drone alone cost $669. It works with the regular controller that the Air2s came with (for those who already have one and want to save). But if you want the smart controller it’s almost 1k after taxes US

@Michael Ortega On top of having the remote with built in screen, the smart controller batter lasts a LONG time on a single charge. And it may seem small, but there are many times I would like to just step out my back door and do some skill drills or fly around for the fun of it for 15-20 minutes on my Mavic Pro, but pulling out the remote, connecting the cables, unlocking the phone, opening the app, unlocking the phone again because I accidentally hit the power button, and having a smaller cell phone screen just make the process so much more tedious, and you have to do several of those steps in reverse when cleaning up and storing the drone. Where with the smart remote, you just power it on, power on the drone and you're off flying. I've not seen anybody mention it, but I have to wonder just how much better the smart remote app is at not crashing versus the app version on cell phones or tablets? This is slightly brighter than my iPhone 12 screen, so the screen really could have used a brighter LED backlight array. I think 99% of the people would prefer a brighter screen that needs to be charged a little more frequently over having a remote that can go a month without recharging.

I got mines for 909$ in the U.S pro controller and all .. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Nice that DJI isn't forcing over-sharpening of the image. The ideal would be an option for zero sharpening "in camera" so we can control it in post, of course.

I love my mini2, I use it for hiking, so I am definetly looking at this one, since it has the smart features and it could follow me when I do my stunts.

That strong wind/gusts test was impressive for something so light.

Here in Canada. I’m beyond excited for this drone! Being sub 250G’s is a huge deal over here due to not having to register this drone which comes with restrictions. I’m returning my Air 2S for this one already. Thanks for the video!

This is great value if you buy it with the RC, it's actually cheaper than buying a new DJI RC PRO and you're getting a whole drone that can fit in your pocket and can fly without a license just about anywhere. I think not having to use your phone as a controller is an absolute must, especially when phones displays dim when getting too hot. Last thing you want is to crash your drone because your screen goes too dark on a sunny day. Love that they added the tracking features of the more expensive drones and have a flat profile like D-LOG (in this case Cinelike) is awesome because DJI usually is too contrasty and saturated.

With the expectation that I'm stoked on my Mini 1 I got at Costco for $350, sure of course it's good. Weird it's creeping up in price but oh well. I use the Mini 1 for flying when camping and scouting. My main drone is the Inspire 2.

I just got the Mini 2. I'm glad I didn't wait for this one. The features are great on the 3 Pro but the bump in price doesn't seem to be worth it.

For me the price is worth it because this drone has 8 bit footage which is harder to grade. I also love apple pro res, the hasselblad camera, and the 4/3 sensor on the mavic 3 cine! Really the mini 3 would be great other than the 8 bit footage.

I just got the Mini 2 fly more combo yesterday and it also comes with a similar two way charging hub with 3 batteries.

awesome review as always. the cost though for the full bundle is kinda pricey. I hope the monitor controller is more flexible with compatibility as the older ones were way too expensive. for now, I'll just stick to my air 2.

@Vinay Dahya while you don't have to register, if you're doing any production work for $$ under a part 107 you still need to register in the US. You still have to comply by FAA, again if you're doing commercial stuff.

Not really, it's cheaper than the DJI RC Pro controller alone and you're getting a whole drone with it that doesn't need to be registered too! This is an awesome starter drone, having the RC controller is so much nicer than using your phone which can dim mid flight when too hot, not to mention having calls and txts come through while on a shoot.

I wonder when they’ll have a firmware update to allow Air 2 and 2s to use that controller! That controller is everything! Especially because that SD card option to download the files directly on the controller so it’s not loading up your phone!

Odd, I like your channel, but it seems odd that you're talking about how well this flies in high winds, but at about 8:25 you edit in a shot of the drone flying into what appears to be a rail car converted into a small bridge, but looking at the trees in this snippet there is no wind to push the drone so flying through the opening isn't any kind of challenge without gusting wind and a small drone. You can see the difference in 8 bit vs. 10 bit, and it is more obvious at 13:25 looking at the sky, even in 4K. Overall it is still a pretty good video quality. In the past the tracking modes kept the subject centered in the view, but having the ability to use the rule of 3rds and put the subject where you want them for a more appealing shot is also a game changer. I keep watching videos of the Mini 3 Pro and Air 2s and I'm flip flopping on both. At the end you mentioned a friend getting stitches from the Mavic Pro 1 which I believe, and it is easy. That's part of the reason these sub 250 gram drones do not need to be registered - they are light weight and less risk of injuring people I own the Mavic Pro 1 and I guess I got distracted. I was in the landing process and as normal it stopped descending at about 5 feet, and I held down on the left stick and I assumed it had landed, so I pulled the sticks in and down to turn off the rotors. Well, the Mavic Pro had not landed, so when I pulled the sticks down and in the drone flew right into my stomach and then down my leg before going under the 4 legs on a metal chair. The drone and rotors were perfectly fine, but I had 7 places where the rotors hit me enough to leave marks. 4 of those were blood blisters leaving marks for a while, and three of them cut deeply enough to require antibiotic ointment and bandages. This was all at maybe 5-7 MPH. I cannot (and do not) want to think what could have happened if I was going at a higher speed. And I see people flying FPV drones at full speed on YouTube with no copilot and it's crazy how much damage one of those could do to a human or pet. The FPV is 1.75 pounds/795 grams or over 3x the weight of this Mini 3 Pro. A baseball weighs 142 grams. Can you imagine being hit with a baseball at 90 MPH? That FPV drone is 5.5x as much weight as a baseball, and unlike a baseball, the FPV has less rounded surfaces. Anyway, the Air 2s has a much better camera and 10 bit, but it is lacking the lower weight, reduced rotor noise, higher upward angle for the camera, vertical or portrait photography, and not to mention the smart remote, although a firmware update may open that remote to the Air 2s and other DJI drones.

If this works with the first Gen DJI Smart RC controller (like the mini 2/Mavic 2) then I’m on board. Seems easy to upgrade from the mini 2 since they use the same controller. the bigger battery life, vertical video, bigger sensor, and no need for a new controller are great and make a good argument to upgrading without buying the controller for a little under $1k for the fly more plus

Sadly it will not connect to the Smart Controller because of the OS3. I need a smart controller for HDMI out. It appears it does not even work with the new RC Pro.

I'll probably be selling my Air 2S for the Mini 3. This is exactly what I needed but was hesitant on getting the Mini 2. 250g would make restrictions less of a hassle.

Have you ever had any actual issues with restrictions? Or are you just talking about the restrictions in general? I’ve never followed the rules or registered my drones (not maliciously, I’ve always prioritized safety), and I haven’t had a single issue or fine. I’m genuinely curious.

@2Bluzin as a new drone owner what is this $5 registration you speak of? Do I have to take a test for that one? I was planning on getting it with the bigger capacity battery which will make the 3 over 250g. Will that be an issue?

If you live in the US the restrictions are the same across the board. 5 dollars to register bigger drones, not a big deal. No benefit to downgrade unless you live in the UK or Canada. And, if you plan to use the Mini to make money, you still have to register it just like a bigger drone.

Just put my Air 2S up for sale and ordered a Mini 3. I take a lot of photos with my Air 2S so I’m taking a chance on the Mini 3 being as good if not better than it.

So, I run the Autel Evo 2 Pro 6k V2, and I wouldn't trade it for any DJI drone, but I'd definitely add this Mini 3 Pro to my kit. It's pretty bangin' for such a tiny drone. Very impressed with it. The Mini from Autel has been around for quite a bit, hopefully we get a new one from them soon.

Has anyone else noticed the pixel binning with this drone. I don't own one but with every demo video I have seen so far it seems like sharp lines have major stair stepping (as in pixel binning).

I’ve seen a few photos on YouTube videos so far but there’s some compression there. Could do with seeing a few uncompressed.

After 50 flights, I just had to spent £450GBP to repair the Mavic Air 2 - due to lack of side sensors, it collided with an unexpected tree branch from the wind and fell down onto hard concrete. Shredded the gimbal and camera.

That's what I was thinking, would be a smart move to keep it worth it's money. It's still has a few better things like 1 inch sensor and 5k video but would like to see some exclusive upgrades through software.

Mini drones from Dji are the best the company has. Is like a car company, and the popular cars is the core to make the company billing. Mini's are the popular car that makes Dji making money. I'm glad to see that these mini drone are getting way better on every release, because I fell more confortable to make money usign a cheaper drone that can delivery great footage them fly a drone that cost almost a car (here in Brazil).

I am probably in the minority but I'd love to have an option to use the phone as a controller. I returned my DJI Mini 2 and sold my Mavic 3, opting for the Autel Nano+ and the EVO 2 because of the DJI GeoFence Flight Restrictions, which Autel does NOT have. DJI should have a GeoFence/Flight Restriction disclaimer that customers/users could sign, releasing them of liability because if they did, I WOULD BUY THE MINI 3!!!

Currency in Australian Dollars; Mavic 3 = $5,000 (*included the RC Pro +DJI care) Mavic 3 = $3,300 ( Basic kit + DJI care) Mavic mini 3 Pro = $1,500( Drone w RC + DJI care). Which one???

Mini 3 pro is my top pick for travel or everyday carry. Mavic 3 is if portability isn’t a concern. bigger sensor, variable Aputure, and obstacle sensors on all sides. I still havnt gotten around to test the image quality of the h265 on this to see if it can stay up with LOG. Mavic 3 cine If I’m doing pro work because of that ProRes. You don’t have to worry about it if the post team is going to know how to process footage. Just say, ProRes in dji log and it’ll just be smoother in the pipeline. Price is a bit outrageous but if you need the ProRes HQ, you’re probably making $$ using it for jobs and it should pay itself off. That’s how we justify our pro equipment purchases at least. Lol Air 2s is in the middle but is still appealing because of that 10-bit in a smaller size. Me personally, i just want to get ND filters for the mini 3 pro, extended batteries, and the smart controller, and I’ll be happy with it for 80% of the things I do at least. D-cinelike with HDR is surprisingly nice to work with.

PV is so drone UNFRIENDLY. I don't know how he gets away with flying there. Technically illegal to fly from any city park, beach or property. Only one tiny patch of dirt they will let you fly. The lighthouse and Point Fermin is No Drone even though "everyone says it's ok".

@Gabriel Vonheeder Having a beginner buy a better drone is good advice if they want to grow into the hobby and eventually move to professional work. The problem is not everyone will. Not everyone needs a 1 inch sensor with tons of dynamic range and 10 bit d-log. Bigger drones give you everything you need to make professional work but they absolutely don't do it for you. The same can be said about buying an instrument. Should a beginner buy an inexpensive $300 Fender guitar or save up for a $1000 Fender that sounds way better and is much better built? Most guitarists would say wait and save for a better guitar, "it'll get you much further." In both drones and guitars, the beginner doesn't know if he wants to dedicate a large part of his life to it. Anyway, that's my thoughts.

@j d I'm gonna go against the other commenter and say wait for some more reviews. The air 2 S and mini 2 are established drones at this point and there's probably tons of reviews showing their shortcomings and issues if there is any. Buying the newest drone right now without understanding the pro features or if you need them reenforces the need to wait. This thing just came out. Before your gear finger gets too itchy look at your work and ask yourself if you really need an upgrade or something new. I still use an air 2 for only photography. If casual video is what you're after the mini 2 and air 2 still work great. Pro features make things easier for the pro. They don't make a beginner into a pro.

@j d to be honest, DJI support ages like milk. Always buy NEWER DJI tech, because they progressivly stop supporting old software until it's unusable. I say this as someone that's owned EVERY DJI gimble. They stop supporting after 5 years or so. Plus, you don't need a licence to fly the mini 3. Image on the air 2s is better for sure, but it's not nearly as flexible

PLEASE try to pair that awesome O3 smart controller with an Air 2 / 2S and let us know. I would get one of these in a heartbeat if it worked with the older Air 2, and bonus...nice little mini with better camera. LoL. I seriously think DJI is missing out on not allowing the FPV goggles to work with the recent stuff (I also want to plug in HDMI digital FPV goggles to the USB C port and have it "share" the video for really bright days...PLEASE!!). Man, I was super interested in this being a 'budget' option in comparison to the Mavic 3 Pro (I have an OG Mavic Air that's getting a bit long in the tooth) but the lack of 10-bit is a bit of a bummer. I guess I'm back to deciding between the Air 2S or the Mavic 3 Pro.

@Elliot Not sure if you've seen Philip Bloom's new update video, but it looks like it's getting 10-bit recording in D-Cinelike! It seems he teases 8K recording and a few other bits at the end as well which is now making this little thing much more tempting!

@Elliot that's honestly the only reason I've been so hesitant in upgrading. I love my Mavic Air for its size, I can bring it without much of a hassle, but the image quality doesn't hold up now that it's almost 5 years old. That's also what made the Mini so appealing, but my main camera is an FX3 & A7SIII combo so I really feel I would benefit from 10-bit to better match everything together. I've seen some amazing examples of footage from the Mini, but all my shoots are very run-and-gun where I always benefit from flexibility in post. I also really like the telephoto camera on the Mavic 3 so I think I'd use that a lot. Such a tough decision honestly haha.

@Midnight I’m actually considering selling my Air 2S for the Mini 3 because of the size. I love the 2S, but I haven’t been able to bring it to places I’ve wanted to because of space. The Mavic 3 would be even worse

@Elliot definitely a good point! I guess the Air 2S isn’t all that much more, but then I start thinking I should just go for the Mavic 3 if I’m going to spend that much. The DJI master profit plan is definitely working! Haha 😂

damn...i paid like 750 for a 1st gen mavic pro and extra batteries off ebay in like 2018. this is insane video quality for same amount. though i'd get the remote with build in screen cus that's nice

Try the latest firmware update for the nano, it now has super wind resistant. It can now handle any dji mini drone in the wind , awesome job autel

What is the advantage of having the joysticks above the screen?

The imperial inch is based on the metric system. Long story short when the inventor of the measuring block system was trying to figure out what the inch actually was and then said screw it and made the imperial inch 25.4 mm which it was really close before but there was a disagreement between some folks how big the inch was in metric. So now we have a metric inch and everything else was adjusted to fit the inch.

Please can you answer this 1 question for me.. On the Mini 2 the indoor altitude (without GPS) is limited to 5m. On the Air 2s it's limited to 30m (probably because it has upward sensors). Can you tell me the indoor non GPS limit on the Mini 3 Pro? Thanks and loving your work!

I got the one with the screen controller + the fly more bundle. The only thing I could want next time is a bigger sensor and 10 bit. I think I will be happy with this for a while. I wonder if they will make the controller compatible with their gimbals that would be sick.

i really hope they still thinking about a non pro mini 3, bec the price of this is basically an air 3 but under 250. Dont get me wrong is great with the capability of the tiny thing but the price jump from such an affordable mini 2, seem to be pushing people for the air 2s or people who need air 2s quality but under 250

Man.... So expensive for the mini, the mini2 is £500 in the UK for the whole creators kit, the mini3 being, for the same kit, £1000 seems like a massive increase in cost. Though still a chance that the pro naming means there's a non pro version maybe??

Or you could look at it as being along the lines of the Mavic Pro 3 in quality, for less money and hassle.
