Great job. What about compatibility of the new controller with other drones and mini 3 pro compatibility with other high end controllers?

Top mount power button is not good because when it rains, it could kill the drone.

Hi Russ, I agree, range test aren't important but if Tesla says their electric cars will go 500 miles between charges we want proof. If DJI says mini 3 will go 10 miles we want proof. A youtuber named Fly Zone has listed you as an influencer not willing to test its range out. Please use a spotter and do a range test for us..
Vor year51 Drones +19
@Alien Pixel Gaming Range tests are very illegal as per the FAA in the U.S. Flying a drone beyond where you can see it in the sky is strictly forbidden. Do I fly beyond? Of course, everyone does, but putting it on YouTube is asking for an immediate email from the FAA and a possible fine. I'm not willing to put my business at risk to appease others. A spotter is not legal either. The verbiage explicitly states that the spotter MUST be in immediate proximity of the pilot in command. There's no getting around it. Other YouTubers will do a true range test, I guarantee it. Dustin Dunhill does one with every drone in Hawaii. Watch his channel if you want to see a real range test. The FAA has ignored range tests up to this point, but I don't plan to be the first one to post evidence online.

I would absolutely love a quickshot mode like rotate around an object where it will rotate a little longer. It would be nice to be able to edit rotations around objects into endless loops without it speeding up and slowing down at the loop point. In other words; it would be nice if you could create a loop point where the speed is constant.
Vor yearaart benschop +3
yes the speeding up and slowing down kind of ruin the shot

Thanks so much for this presentation. Awesome work, as always. I’ve been flying and photographing/videoing ever since my Phantom 4K Pro which is at least 5 years past now. My own Mini Pro 3 arrived via UPS this very morning. I’m just stunned at how small it is, and how light. My wife (who also flies) and I decided to order this little drone as soon as it was announced because the specs looked so impressive. DJI has always pretty much told the truth about their products, so we took a chance on it before seeing anyones reviews. Looks like we made the right choice. And we’re getting some help right out of the gate from this video. Thanks again, Russ. You always come through with “the good stuff” in your videos.

6:47 Actually, overheating is to be expected when the drone is not flying. The cooling system is relying on the propellers to be spinning in order to get the proper cooling it requires. Regarding shooting in 4K60 on a hot day, I flew continuously and recorded everything until all my 3 batteries were empty and there have been no overheating warnings or anything, so I'm guessing it's fine. Thanks for taking the time and making this video!

In a way, sideways obstacle tracking would be more useful than forwards. It’s easiest to avoid things going forwards as you can see them, and the most effect drone shots are usually sideways, backwards or upwards movements.
Vor yearAKmotorider150 +4
Not when the drone is tracking you as you are, say, biking. It needs front obstacle sensors to know when to swerve around trees. Hell, that's the only reason I even want a drone with obstacle sensors.

As a real pilot, you'll probably feel quite "underwhelmed" because of just how easy it is to control these modern drones. The tech made it as easy as in a video game, I'm definitely not complaining but don't expect to need any critical skills on the joysticks ;)

What a brilliant review! With the authorities always tightening regulations on safety, this is also a serious professional tool if flying in conjested areas. As a commercial pilot, your review has convinced me that I need one. Many thanks!
Vor yearrogoflap
Great video BTW. I item I would like to see is the ability to record /save flight patterns and fly them over and over by just picking a past flight from a saved list. That way it would be easy for us to fly a certain pattern over and over. I know this can happen with 3rd party, but we should easily be able to do that via the logs that are kept for each flight.
Vor 2 MonateChad Cornelius +2
Hello, Great overview video! One Question: does drone currently allow upload of flight plans, or does it have good advanced features to automate grid flights for use in creating orthomosaic maps, images, and 3D models?
Vor 5 MonateBerkey Family +1
As far as quick shots, typically the subject with these is standing still or moving minimally. I'd like to see some quick shots based on GPS anchors, where the drone starts its quick shot from a distance and then comes in to the subject (the GPS anchor first, and then perhaps locks onto a predefined subject that it can "find" again like it did with you as you walked behind the trees) and then pans or circles around the subject or anchor point. I think an "object memory" or "GPS Anchor" quick shot set would be a very powerful feature.
Vor 3 MonateTom Spurlock +13
Prop arms are to accommodate the larger props, and to keep the props out of the camera view when the camera is looking up 60 degrees. The larger props allow for a lower RPM to hover, which makes it quieter, and more efficient. My old 2015 Yuneec Typhoon had huge 11" props, also one of the quietest drones I've flown because of the slower prop speed.

In quick shots, a star mode would be amazing in my opinion. It would still circle the subject like in 360 mode but it would also zoom in on the subject in a star pattern.

Well, I had already purchased the mini 3 before I watched your video. And it is very informative. Been flying for just under a month and I discovered the drone does not see white and was playing around a garage door with obstacle avoidance the drone would have crashed if I did not stop it. And I thank you for the time and effort you put into your videos.
Vor 6 MonateSangharuchi - CharacTable - Matthew New
Quickshots: 1. 36x Photo images at whatever the current distance and elevation is at 10degree increments. This would be very handy for photogrammetry. 2. Fly directly away from the subject at an increasing speed that means a constant zoom can be applied in post production to create a dolly zoom. This is possible by hand with practise on the horizontal but not with any elevation. Also, doing it by hand your uncertain you got the shot until you’re in post production.

Great overview and a very attractive proposition for my application - as a Mavic Air (1) owner preferring a more compact drone for offroad biking, MTB riding and hiking. As compact as the smartphone controller is, the hassle of connecting it each time to fly is a hassle. The dedicated controller will make things sooo much easier even if a bit bigger. Now, to find a buyer for my MA with heaps of extras....😜

Hey Russ, Great video! For a few years now I have been flying the small cheap low range indoor drones with the prop guards. But this February I got a Deerc DE22 as my sacrificial drone. I crashed it twice in 4 weeks. It still flies but, there is no deerc care repair nor is there a place to get parts other than props and screws. Decided to move up to the mini 3 pro in March and had to refresh two weeks later. This drone is CUTTING EDGE flying camera technology. I love it. I love your editing videos too because, I am 62 and need supplemental income to survive. So, I also need You Tube. Who would not enjoy making money with a tool that doubles as a hobby? Some day I hope to have my own studio.🙏

Really thorough, but concise and balanced video. I was trying to decide whether to go for the DJI Mini 2 or DJI Mini 3 Pro as my first drone. I think you may have convinced me that the latter is the best option. Still undecided about which controller to get - I can see pros and cons for both ‘integrated’ android system and being able to use my iPhone 13 with the app. Hmmm… 🤔

Excellent presentation Thank You Russ! One of the thing DJI could improve and make their interface even more convenient and fun to work with would be to enhance their programming features for waypoints. Adding 3 key elements: GPS coordinates, point recording while flying and allowing to setup fly altitude lower than 2m. Ideally, this could be done on the remote and on a computer through the personal DJI account. I am struggling with few requests asking to fly with different constraints and such feature would help tremendously if available.
Vor yearCanidMonkey +1
If/when DJI releases an SDK there is the possibility for third party apps to do this: "Litchi" is one that has some of what you're asking for on other DJI platforms, but the dev is waiting for DJI to release an SDK "Litchi is compatible with: Mini 2, Mini SE, Air 2S(*), Mavic Mini 1, Mavic Air 2, Mavic 2 (Zoom/Pro), Mavic (Air/Pro), Phantom 4 (Standard/Advanced/Pro/ProV2), Phantom 3 (Standard/4K/Advanced/Professional), Inspire 1 (X3/Z3/Pro/RAW), Inspire 2 and Spark." "Litchi is *NOT* compatible with Mini 3 Pro and Mavic 3 as DJI has not released a developer SDK for these drone models yet"
Vor yearPascal R
@CanidMonkey thank you for the advice. Problem with stepping out of "official" apps is that .....your are stepping out of standards.....not sure if one problem solved would then create 10 others.

Great coverage for this drone. Fun fact: It's a common misnomer that ISO is pronounced I.S.O. it's actually pronounced ISO (eye-so) as it was decided that the acronym would be different in other languages and for a society wanting regulation, they just decided to call this ISO, even though the S and the O are capitalized. I've owned a Mavic Pro and although it still does everything I need it to, the temptation to purchase this drone has never been greater. This is like twice what my drone can do in half the weight. If I were to purchase another drone, this one would be it. DJI knockin' it outta the park, yet again.

Thank you for your video, very comprehensive. I'm considering this drone for the fact that it's sub 250 grams and yet still has some amazing qualities (considering its size, of course). That said, I'm a bit confused about the geozone. I'm in Canada, and the bottom line here is that a micro drone is "allowed" to fly pretty much anywhere, but for emergencies (forest fire zones etc.), and still not allowed to fly in close proximity to a military base. Barring those few restrictions, you "can" (whether you "should" or not is really THE question!) legally fly almost anywhere. So, why does DJI enforce geozones on a drone that really doesn't have any issues with legal flight? I realize you aren't DJI and may not know the answer, but I'd appreciate your thoughts on this regardless. It makes no sense to me. It defeats the purpose (in my mind) of having a sub 250 gr drone.
Vor yearRick Sabian
*That's what's blowing my mind too! I just ordered one today and if I can't just fly it out of the box without jumping through a bunch of hoops first, it's going to fly right back to Amazon. There was no mention of this when I bought it!* 🤔

Excellent video for me. Helped me confirm that the DJI mini 3 Pro is sufficiently good enough for 'serious' image work whilst being accessible for a novice wanna be drone pilot. I may eventually upgrade to bigger, heavier and eventually more capable drone for video and photography but that will be after training. I figure I may as well get proper training and then certification if I'm eventually going to shoot stills and video footage at a high end level. I already understand a lot about photography and light, but video skill is currently modest and drone skill nil.

My first thought regarding set filming moves was that it would be great if the programmable buttons could record several moves - like a macro in excel. It looks like a great drone and I have pre-ordered. Thanks for the video

And one additional idea : Is it possible to keep the height over ground constant and measure the angle on the ground to correct the GPS data by the topography of the ground surface ?

I don’t recall who I saw complaining about this new RC compared to the RC PRO but when considering the RC PRO itself is a $300 more than the Mini 3 Pro and RC remote combo I don’t understand the complaints.

I have the Mavic 2 Pro and been wanting a small drone for some things. I'm loving what I'm hearing about this thing. It really seems like such a capable drone in a small package.

Thanks for covering the DJI Mini Pro in a easy to fellow way. As a rookie and living in the woods Ill ask. Any problems with Return / fly away? Is a crash cage available? With the heavy battery would I need to reapply for another new reg. / Lic from the FAA? ( I fly an original Mini) Thanks Again. T

First of all- thorough, yet easily digestible video. Thank you. But honestly, I most appreciated when you came to the point of the range test and brought up how conducting that would obviously necessitate breaking the LOS regulation. I am by nature, kind of a rule breaker, a yahoo, a “freedom” seeker. But the big takeaway of my actual classroom Part 107 test prep course (the instructor also holds a private pilot license with instrument and multi engine rating) is how to fully appreciate and actualize the proper pilot mindset. Responsibility, humility, excellence. Dropping the ego and following the regulations even though you probably won’t get caught seems to be the biggest hurdle to the recent convergence of healthy drone regulation and embedded electronic nanny tech. So, I respect your attitude and therefore subbed.

Since the gimbal moves with motors, technically its motors can be used in quickshots. For example, the drone can take the same shots as if it were in fpv mode.

As usual, one of the best new reviews of the Mini 3 Pro. Just a couple of questions. Does the spherical panorama shot take advantage of the much larger vertical range of the gimbal? And is it possible to output video to an external HDMI monitor via the second USBc port on the new Smart Controller. Looking forward to more of your great videos on the Mini 3

Related to that what is the number of pixels or size of the dJI generated sherical panorama. The mini 2 really gives a very low resolution DJI generated panorama.

A USB c to hdmi cable does not work. Dji didn't implement that even though it might seem logical

I always put a mini fan in front of my mini 3 when I'm updating. Never had any over heating problems 😉

Does the gimbal on the mini 3 pro able to pan left and right without changing the orientation of the drone? Great work with the channel, love the info you share with us.

Just received my DJI Mini 3 Pro (DJI RC) and looking forward to giving it a go. I have been using the DJI Mini 2 for the last year and it a nice drone. Thanks the time and effort you put into this... It has just confirmed my purchase was a good one.

My biggest complaint with my Mini2 was this weekend, I was only “allowed” 7min of flight time at 9500ft elevation. RTH at 2 miles away. When it landed I still had 35% battery left 🤮

I’ve been on the fence for years and never pulled the trigger, purchased my first drone today. I’m now going to be a proud owner of a DJI Mini 3 Pro.

Good video. Subscribed to learn more about the Mini 3 Pro. 73 yrs old and very brand-new to the drone world. Was a military and civilian helicopter pilot, and this is as close to flying again that I can afford. The more videos watched, the more it seems it's learning how to be a 'PHOTOGRAPHER-while-flying'. Look forward to watching more videos about the MINI 3 PRO. Thank you.

For the past week ive been watching endless videos and this one is top 5 in terms of the value of the information you provided. Thank you so much. I cant wait to get one. I am a home body and I am hoping that getting something like this will get me outside more. My GoPro Hero 7 Black just doesnt cut it. I do have 1 question. Why is there an SD card slot in the drone AND the RC? Do I need to run an SD card in both at the same time?

Thanks for your time in creating these videos, I think the mini3 is in the very near future from a (Mavic Pro) I have many questions but I'll ask 2 for now. 1)just how quick can you get this up in the air? and 2) Can it transfer photos to my (android phone) "in the field"? Thanks Jack

I ordered mine yesterday because the screened rc tempted me.....then started watching reviews. Thank you. I started to have a bit of a panic attack after purchasing an expensive mini one over the super expensive full size

The long arms add stability like pontoons on an outrigger. It also makes room for longer props which are quieter because of the subsonic speed. You mentioned that the drone felt especially light. The reduced weight requires less air for lift. Les air makes less noise and Lee's noise.

It's interesting that you seemed to have a stronger signal in that location, most of the other testers seem to be having problems with a weaker signal than they are used to

This was a tremendous review buddy ... bravo ... and agree on all points this one is really an asset in the toolbox. One thing I found that is really the only issue with this lil guy is that the motors can get dust/dirt in them pretty easy... so much so there are motor covers you can buy third party. I highly suggest them because even a little grit will put her down.
