Once again Dustin, another great range test video! Would it be possible to add in a graphic/chart at the end of your range test videos, to compare all of the different range tests you have performed on the variety of makes and models? It would be good to see the range of each and the price point of each too, kind of like a leaderboard. Anyway, just a thought.

Really enjoyed a "real world" test of the battery. New drone pilot here and I just purchased the Mini 2 last week. I've only taken it on a few short flights thus far (until I build up more confidence) and I have been very impressed so far. Thank you again for the test.

One of the things I like the most about your videos specifically is how easily it is to read your landscape. Its really easy to visually benchmark and compare your different range tests because of the terrain. Like "oh he almost made it all the way out to the coast on that last one and this one he made it a little less far" Its not just numbers.

Yesterday I took my mini 2 3500 meters away on a full battery when I let it auto return to home point. I started to get high wind warnings on return which might have drained more power from battery and it tried to do a forced landing at 4% half way between 2 river banks. I quickly over rid the landing and flew into a park a couple of meters in from the bank while reducing altitude and lost connect about 10 meters off the grass which is to be expected. It was right were I lost contact with it 950 meters from home siting on the grass. So just a cautionary story for people who want to test the limits, I'm lucky that it's not taking pictures of fish right now.

@DJI mini 2 Nice, I think 4.7 km is my record now. I've had to get it a few times now. I fly over Australian bush and grass lands full of taipans and other venomous snakes. I need PPE for snakes i think.

You nailed the video Dustin, and the Mini 2 nailed its assignments. Looking forward to the range test with the old battery , I imagine it may lack accuracy in assessing RTH point if it is calibrated for a different power delivery profile of the newer battery, but DJI may detect that and adjust. be hard to tell as it would all get lost in the wind effects I guess. Anyway thanks for another adventure on Maui, who needs travel these days !!

The Mini 2 did great on the range test, you really had a good signal. And thanks for showing limitations of the intelligent flight modes on this drone. You always do a great job on these video's.

Wow, man. I got exactly half of that distance (2.3 km) while flying over the city, standing on the 3rd floor of an apartment complex. I still though it was quite the distance, but surely not even remotely close to the 10 km claim by DJI. I was using a smart controllers, but I'm sure my regular controller wouldn't have made it much further.

Another stellar review ! , however , as boring as it might be to some , due to the power consumption issue , i would like to see a m2 range test done in 1080p with minimum gimbal manipulation so we can get a better sense of how far this drone is actually capable of . would also be nice to see comparisons sport mode vs mormal mode and m1 vs m2 batts . given the batt limitations it seems unlikely that it will even come close to the claimed 10km so im guessing they must be referring to the range of the control link rather than the actual range of the drone itself , still it would be nice to answer the question , what is the absolute extreme range limit the m2 is capable of . I feel if anyone of the reviewers is able to answer this question it would be you . In fact , your reviews are the only ones i would trust to actually answer the extreme range limit question , just want to close in saying thank you for all you do for the hobby !

It'll be interesting to see how it flies with the Mini1 battery because the electrical characteristics are different, so I wonder if will it tell you your on low battery before it really is.

Another great video. I have been using LiPos in RC aircraft for years. The minimum safe voltage for a Lipo is 3.0V per cell. That is the absolute minimum. 3.3v is best. 3.5v is conservative. Lipo are lighter but not as durable is Li Ion. That is why they mainly use Li Ion in power tools instead of LiPo. Also as you saw LiPo's are lighter because of the way they are constructed.

Good work, I continually learn on YT. It's like DJI have hands down made this hobby profession whatever available to everyone and the reliability of their hardware & software is perhaps unmatched.

Hi, many thanks for you review. Just wanting to share my recent experience too on DJI Mini 2, during high wind, the camera view horizon angle slanted either left or right depending on where the wind pushes the drone. Supposedly, the camera gimbal fixed this by maintaining the correct horizon.

I bought a Mini 2 after being influenced by your videos. Definitely helped me decide which one would fit my needs. Loving it so far. Keep up the good work!

Thank you for the video. I don't understand why DJI doesn't add a track the remote control feature when doing quick shots. That'd be a lot easier to track than just depending on picture contrast.

@Jacob Velasco I assume this question is for me? I’ve had the M2 up in the air and flying locally, no great distances achieved just yet! Although I’ve taken it to approximately 350ft in height. Still early days for me to give more detail on the drone.

Dustin, Another great video, thanks. 👏 Litchi software adds functionality to DJI drones such as preplanned way point missions and active tracking. The advantage with Litchi is that you can fly the same route with different drones, or on different days. It would be great if you could include a review under Litchi control.

Great review Dustin, appreciate this. learned a few details shared, ( the zoom in feature, battery drain window etc), a great tech update with the RC bars still holding strong at that distance. however it would be interesting to learn if the RC signals will hold strong at 9kms range from control unit.?

I just did my first flight with my mini 2 and I only flew it around a park. I had NO IDEA it had this kind of capability, holy shit. I'm blown away by this (it was my dad's and he gave it to me because he never used it, so I had never researched anything about it aside from the controls)

Nice range test as usual. The signal certainly won’t be the deciding factor on how far it goes out with this drone.

one thing to note as you saw is, Quick shots will exit automatically if any of the right or left stick is changed manually. So, Quickshots are totally automated with pre defined heights and distance. Great video btw, superb to see the range test. Great day.

At 30:00 it actually did a perfect circle. The drone moved in a perfect circle, however the bench wasn't in the center of the circle. There is a limitation about the radius of that circle path but it still does it if you exceed it.

Great vid, although we use the metric system in the UK we still measure use miles, even our speed limits are in mph

Love your tests and vids. It'd be cool to have a colleague staged farther out prepared to collect the drone, perhaps in a boat or on another island, to see how far the signal remains solid without worrying about reserving battery life for the flight home.

That test wouldn't be a very useful data point, because you have to make it back home.

2 things. 1. Do you know about double clicking the function button? Snaps the gimbal to the 90° down position and when you double click it again (double tap or whatever) it goes back up to the original level position. I use it when I’m over water and getting low and want to get a camera visual of how close I am to the surface of the warter.

It's really astonishing how such a small device can fly for so long with such a tiny battery! Amazing feat of engineering in consumer sphere. Wonder what has been achieved in classified military technology.

Great tips, I used them all. Went out the first time with my mini 2 yesterday. Everything went fine but when I looked at some of the videos on my computer I noticed the 4K quality fades when drone is moving. When I am perfectly still, it' fine. I am going to go out again today and get drone in position and switch to cinema mode and move slow but I shouldn't have to go through that, do you think? If you have any tips let me know, Please. thank you...

I got 4.8km and landed with 25% remaining. I flew over the ocean at around 20' hight and less than 1mph wind. Flight time 17.2 minutes

Dustin love your work mate, cause of you I purchased my first drone the dji mini 2 😀 just have a quick question. I traveled 4kms out here in Australia. I got there with approx 76% battery at around 100m high in altitude. As it was starting to come back in N mode. The battery started depleting real quick, too right started with 14min remaking down to 5-6min and starting going down real fast, I got it back at around 4% so thank god. 🙏🏻 but very strange. Have you accured anything like this before ? Your help is appreciated 👍🏼

This video is really a good way to learn, from setting up the phone till flying

The area you selected for it to circle is relative to the height of the drone. If you want to circle something from far away, select an area relative to the hight. Hope that makes sense

Wonderfully informative vid thanks mate. Do you think putting it in Sport mode to get it home quicker would let you go farther out? Or would it use more battery anyways and equalise out?

Would be risky and may use more power unless wind is blowing harder all the way back. Sports is kind of a gamble to me since wind is so variable here 🍻

Hi Dustin. I’ve been watching your videos particularly the ones on the DJI Mini 2. You do a great job, very well made and, instructional videos! I was sold on the new mini 2 until yesterday when I saw the new software update from DJI for the Fly app. Can you please tell us you opinion on the update, it seems to have shortened the battery duration which makes it a no go for me.

Better not get the mini 2... Batteries die WAY 2 fast after the update & it's a no go 4 me after the update... beware of mini 2

@Dustin Dunnill yet again thank you very much Dustin; I've almost threw U$129.99 at the Freewell set of 8 ND and polarized filters.

I wouldn't worry about ND filters just yet. Start experimenting with the camera manual controls first. I rarely use ND filters unless I'm using polarized to cut through ocean glare. I don't think DJI makes them yet for the mini series so maybe polar pro but I haven't tested 🍻

To start, I absolutely love your reviews. You are always quite thorough with your content. That said; After watching a few of your reviews of the mavic mini and the mini 2, I decided to purchase the mini 2. I followed all of the steps of each tutorial as well as read the instructions and for whatever reason, the DJI Fly App doesnt work with any device that I have, one of which is the galaxy A10 which is on the list of approved devices. Do you have any Tips/Tricks on how to make the app work? If not, do you have any devices with the app preloaded that you, or possibly a viewer of your channel would be willing to sell?

Hi Harry thank you. I'd start by making sure your downloading the latest app directly from DJI's website. Reboot your phone and give it another try. Let us know how it goes 🍻

Try uninstalling the app, do a hard start on your device, re-download the app, before you connect you phone, make sure you start the drone, the remote control and then plug in your phone and start the app, do an immediate update, this worked for me and I hope it works for you, good luck!

I got a mini SE for my birthday the fly more kit which was very impressive to me. It blows my mind it's at the bottom of the totem pole and I am so impressed by it. I think my dad got me into an expensive hobby as one day I'm going to want to get a proper Mavic one day (plus more). For now the mini SE is good for a beginner. Thanks for your channel love it

@Andy Keast I took my mini 1 to Kauai early this year and took some good videos. It performed great but had some issues fighting the wind. One time I had full power forward while return from videoing a waterfall and my mini couldn't move. Scared me for a bit.

Excellent video and thank you for making it. I've seen videos of people sitting in their cars stationary and moving while flying. Does this degrade the signal to the drone? Can you make a video sitting in your vehicle and flying while pointing the remote controller thru the windshield? It would be nice to be able to sit in your vehicle and fly on cold days. Yes you can but it will indeed effect signal randomly depending on how you're pointing controller and what material the signal is penetrating. Breakup will be more apparent the further the drone is from you 🍻

In shock with this technology having a panic attack just seeing reach that far, had a cheap drone a few years back and after about 50 ft and a gust of wind into the tree it went 🤣 tempted to try out a well produced one

I believe the DJI engineers had watched your range test of mini 1, so they decided not letting you to return to home in 0% battery power easily.

Did my first test flight with this thing yesterday. No droning experience whatsoever, so I was shitting bricks. Lost sight of the drone, no idea where it was, panicked. It was sheer luck that I found the RTH button. After watching this, I will probably be more confident today. Wish me luck.

I finally pulled the trigger on this little guy. Couldn't decide between this one and the Air 2. I finally decided on this one as I fly more for fun and hobby than for photography. I think a lot of the features of the Air 2 would be wasted on me. Again, excellent video, Dustin.

i love this long, in depth video about the drone, I feel like this video would lives forever for the people who's considering to buy a new drone but can't decide which drone should they buy, great video.

If I was a spark or mini user looking to upgrade with tight budget, this drone is the best choice, as it can manage a 30 minute flight with outstanding range, yes, 10 kilometers, but of course who flies that far, it only shows you can have perfect control of this little drone even great range. Just be careful though, it has no obstacle avoidance🤗

That area seems like a good places to test it, if it was over populated areas with trees, it'd be more of a nail biter- a SAR would be harder to do if it went down where a car could run over it or someone picks up the curious object falling from the sky😉

WOW..just tested mine for the first time in the Mountains and only hit about 400-500 yards then lost signal, luckily it returned to home automatically. Have to try it again..Great video!

In standard mode you can´t go really far, you´re too slow... go sport, go faster... yes, it drains more battery of course, but you WILL get further with 50% left, probably around 5.5 to 6 miles depending on the wind. Never go below 50% before returning, because wind can change, and if you get back against it, you may never return home.

Great video.. I just got the Mini 2 and am really scared to fly it out far especially over water since we're living on the coastline. Will check out all ya other vids but keen to know how it flies around buildings and tall objects which could possibly interefere with line of sight.

Range is extremely variable when object and electromagnetic interference is introduced. It will greatly depend on object composition and other interference signal is passing through 🍻

LiPo batteries are much more delicate than the lithium of the Mini 1, that’s why DJI advices not to go too much below 10%, because they could have a very fast discharge

A little hint if you have the gamble all the way down it will slow your speed down and if you lift it up 5 to 10* it will speed up to normal. Same things happen if you have gamble straight forward. That is normal until DJI dose an update. Also the battery needs a few changes to break it in you only had a couple charges on the battery. Doug

Hi thanks for the video. If you put the Mini 1 battery inside Mini 2, will you be able to get 18,000 ft of distance, like what you did with the Mini 1 max distance test? If the Mini 1 battery has more capacity, will it give Mini 2 extra flight time compare to the Mini 2 battery?

The best feeling ever is returning home on an empty battery... And having two more fully charged ready to go out again. Always go for the Fly More.
